  • put put bleh, the fire breathing animal dies...

  • P76 engine if I remember was 4.4 litres from the factory, not to be confused with later engines. Rover version was about 15lbs heavier than Buick due to some 'extra' metal in the block. Rover dropped the outer 4 bolts as these were found to cause the head to fallover, (if you get what I mean), over time. Standard fasteners were pretty suspect to reuse...ARP solved that.

  • Oldsmobile also had it's version of this engine, it too was 215 cubic inches. It's a better choice and has the same bottom end, the Olds used 4 more head bolts per side and had better breathing. If you got lucky you might find a Jetfire version, it came with a turbo and water injection right from the factory in 63 I believe it was. I've built dozens of the 215s for VW installation in Tucson Arizona a couple of decades ago. We put them in the Westfalia campers more then anything else, toomuchfun

  • it needs a little cleaning up. but thats a bad ass buggy

  • yes there is a 2bbl 500 holley to check look on the choke horn for the list number and check holley parts list specs 2bbl carbs came in 320,350 & 500 c.f.m. for better throttle responce try an adaptor plate and a 390 4 bbl holley tuned right will be better.

  • @1800unbelieveable cool, I'll check it when I'm up there next (its a shame, I was up there for the first time in 3 months yesterday!)

If I went 4bbl, I'd need a different manifold or at least modify it pretty seriously. I've got bigger problems to worry about, like why there is steam blowing out of the oil breathers! LOL

  • Those lucas dizzys were utter crap really some people modify a buick hei or apparently a holden 253/308 dizzy can be used with some modifications, sounds a beast I have 3 p76 v8 engines they have survived well 2 have never been rebuilt but well worn enough.Does yours have a special 4 barrell manifold with the 500 holley? 1 of my engines has a 350 holley

  • @mutto82 Its actually running a 350, not a 500 as my description says (...unless they made a 2bbl 500?) so its just got an adapter plate for the 350 to the stock manifold. Ive now got electronic egnition (eBay = $60) with new leads, cap, rotor and button - runs beautifully! Well, up until I pulled the heads because i had steam coming out of the oil breather hoses. Just waiting to buy new gaskets and have a spare weekend :)

  • sounds sick,and i don't mean that in a good way.

  • @youjgh26 read the description next time

  • that buggy sucks and sounds terrible

  • LOL, this was the day I bought it, it had been sitting in a paddock for 3 years - just threw in a couple of litres of fresh fuel.

Check my other videos to see it running.

By the way, where's yours mate? LOL, dickhead!

  • @patriot3331 your dumb,this is a v8,not a gay little 4 banger.

  • Not too many of the p76 's around or is there ? in Ausie Leyland closed shop around

1977, I wonder if the tooling for these engines still survives ? if so gis a shout and I will pack me bags

  • i have 47 at the farm, 1 at home and 4 sitting at my nans hose. ( Plus a shitload of parts) They are easy to find if you know where to look!

  • I wonder how much to ship to Ireland, can you strip an engine down for me eg without cylinder heads ?

  • Where's the electric windows and towbar for the caravan ?

  • fresh fuel and a tune.take a spare pair of undies:P

  • that things awesome. reminds me of somtin outa mad max

  • looks like a fun project. i would drive it

  • what is the sont at the begining of the video...

  • @03bansheerider SCATMAN

  • mate very one says its shit i think its awsome well done mate

  • haha thats sick. i bet that theres some serious fun to be had in that!

  • Its a 15 year old sand-dragster you knob, I'm not building it, I'm fixing it. It sounds sick because the advance-plate inside the distributor is broken causing the timing to be all over the shop and eventually stop the points from opening. Gees, how am I ever going to afford the $10 replacement part?!?

Oh by the way, where's your buggy mate?

  • still a piece of shit

  • Thats fine, you're still a piece of shit

  • holleys have a bad rep for flat spots, love the exhaust flames etc!

Get some serious traction with all that weight at the rear!

I think u can get all the bits u need to reinforce transmission as some turbo bugs get similar maybe more power and torque.

Be good if u could get quad 44idf webers!

    probably wheely!

Plastic seats r good as u can rinse poo stains off as well!lol.

  • Haha, yeah I've put in plastic buckets!

Quad webers would be awesome, but a bit overkill for this baby, I'm trying to keep it budget ;)

The bloke I bought it from said it pulled wheelies in 3rd at 100kmh / 60mph :D

Transmission should hold up fine, cos its only for the dunes, I won't be slamming the throttle on TOO hard.

Its actually quite light in the rear, all-Alloy engine :)

    Cheers for the comment!

  • hey wher do you find your holley? cos me and my step bro have put a over V8 from an SD1 in her car but we need a holley e-bay's never got any :@ where u gt your from please? many thanks

  • If you're talking about the carby by itself, just give a few carby repair places a call. They'll usually have a few reconditioned ones lying around. I highly recommend NOT buying one from eBay that says "just needs a kit through it" because there are lots of things that go on them from time to time. Excess play is something that almost ALL Holleys will suffer from at some point. Reconditioned ones from a specialist will have had the throttle-body rod honed and fitted perfectly........

  • not to mention that the metering blocks will be completely full of crap! Reconditioned ones with have been completely cleaned in acid-baths and will look like NEW! I know they cost a bit, but when you buy an old one, put a rebuild kit through it, replace a few things and THEN have to get it reconditioned ANYWAY..... you are much better off just getting it right from the start.

As far as the manifold goes, if you don't already have one for a Holley, just keep your eyes peeled on eBay, or......

  • yer .. thanks m8, my step bro has built several cars in the past he knows what he's doing (Y) i helped him build 2 celea GT fours which had head gaskets gone, 2 day job with rain :/ so no worries on anyone fooling him:) but thanks for the advice and words :D

  • Where's the next vid! Want to see it in action!

  • Probably in the next couple of weeks :) I may put up a compilation of pics from the work done in the meantime :)

  • what is the first song ???

  • Keep persisting with it. There's nothing better than doing it yourself. I've just put a Rover V8 in mine......Awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • UPDATE: New 1600 Kombi gearbox is in and shifts nicely, while inspection inside the old box showed numerous helical gear teeth (most likely first and third). Gearbox mount has been welded securely (there were some stress fractures after the last bloke hardly welded it on at all!). Replaced inlet gaskets, just need to give the carby another look over (Idle jets seem blocked - hence no smooth running). Still need to adjust pedals, replace brake-pads, and replace C.V. Bolts........GETTING THERE!

  • is it for sale??

  • Nah mate, its just my little on-going project when I visit my parents' farm. They live 350k's away (210miles) so I need to have all my little tasks planned pretty well each time I go up there to make it efficient :)

  • junk. you shuld invest in a VW and spend 10k like i did.. 450hp

  • HA! Well considering my whole buggy cost less than $900 and it has 389Nm of torque with a standard motor, my money was better spent than your $10k. I know what dak-dak motors are capable of, but this is a relatively light motor that puts out a lot of grunt STOCK, which means that when something goes, I can fix it for next to nothing. LOL, its funny how some people think that just because they have spent way more money, that they are smarter. Thanks for the comment though mate! :P

  • its more rewarding to build it ur self stick your 10k up yer ass fucking rich boy prick

  • Hahahaha, well put mate! :)

  • Nice, have fun in it. You should watch my latest video for inspiration. There's footage of a buggy running the same engine.

  • haha..very nice..sexy time! alright! I love the sound of a loud dunebuggy,it's in my blood!

that buggy needs to be worked on like my dads buggy! haha needs ne everything!

  • whats the opening song you got there?

  • The opening song is "I'm A Scatman" by SCATMAN JOHN.

The closing song is "Sister Awake" by THE TEA PARTY

    :)

  • opening song??

  • What a fuking beast

  • AHHH...

    awesome!

    =explode=
