@kittyflumpin exactly, "too achingly lovely to endure." I couldn't say it any better. The sad majesty of this song from someone so young at the time. I love so many of the other Whiskeytown songs, but this one is in a class of its own.
Ryan was still a kid when Whiskeytown busted out. Yeah, his sound has changed - he is evolving and growing up. Better than trying to rehash the same old stuff... Gonna see him with the Cardinals next week in KC. Can't wait.
in my opinion Ryan hasn't released anything as amazing as Pneumonia and this song since! Not to say his solo stuff isn't amazing, it is, but this is beyond amazing..
Uncle Tupelo, especially "Anodyne," Richard Buckner, Richmond Fontaine, Son Volt, John Hiatt, Elliot Smith, early Jackson Browne, The Gravel Pit all worth checking out!
I lowe this song. I didn't hear Whiskeytown until I heard Inn Town, and i didn't know much about Ryan Adams. He's a great muscian, but he's changed his sound since this sound. Can anyone point me to anything like this...Jayhawks, Amos Lee, Lyle Lovett, Nick Cave, Grant Philips, Aimee Mann...I love good singer songwriters. Thanks in advance for the help. I'll check back later.
funny!!...this tour was my first run into with this short poet, but not my last..even when he told me he was on the phone, i still thought he had an easy heart!
i was obviously kidding. My point was: Whiskeytown IS a billion times better, & why do people listen to 1Repub when they could see this instead. It's called "irony" , something RA could appreciate
yeah I say this to my friends. When people look back in say 20 years, they will see this man as a HUGE influence to music and poets out there. A fantastic lyricist.
Ryan and caitlin cary need to tour together again
