I remeber hearing this years ago. It just popped into my head out of nowhere this afternoon. I am so glad to find it on here! A great song, fond memories of the late 90's. :)
I heard this tune on 120 minutes long ago. I think it has a solid place in "alternative" rock. On the show, the band spoke of this as an AIDS awareness song..and it may be...but when you start getting older, the theme, sadly, it expands...
If you mean the demo version thats off one of the cd singles then I do have it. Around the time this song was a hit I bought a bunch of their rare singles that were released (mostly overseas. The lay it down single has demo versions of slowly, slowly, piece of cake and the crush all from teh hot boxing album.
Love 'em! Fav's are "Slowly Slowly", "A Piece of Cake" and "This family". Good stuff, reminds me of a big transitional time in my life from kid to adult... sort of.
wow! it remebers my my teenage days dancing to this song...I've never saw the videoclip..even did not now that exist a clip for it...I just read a comment below saying that an Eels cover was done also...must be really sad as most eels music..this do not mean that I like his music...I think he is a great composer
well i dont want to seem stupid but what is the name of the group singing this song? i happen to think it rocks as its been a long time since ive heard it as well.
ty so the name of the band is magnapop. wow, i am getting old or thought that was a type of music. ty for responding and if youever open a page on myspace, let me know, okay, peace my friend, b~
wow, I've been looking for this song for a long time. I remember it because they always played it at NHL games (at least in pittsburgh) when a player for the visiting team had to go to the penalty box (open the door to the box).
This song, The Murmurs "You Suck", and The Sundays version of "Wild Horses" really makes me realize how much I miss the 90's. Music stopped being good at around 1995-97
I thought this song was one of the most brilliantly meloncholy tunes I had ever heard when it came out in 96. This video only adds to that (wish the sound was better though :) )
I heard this on the radio when it came out--unfortunately it wouldn't stand a chance of radio play on our homogonized airwaves of today--how low our popular entertainment has sunk (cue "sigh" of longing for better days).
are they still composed by two girls and two guys? same lineup? I have this song is 45 single and they appear on picture cover...quite young then...they must be on their 30's actually isnt it? I will search for more music as I read they use to do fresh punkpop(and open the dorr has nothing about punk)
I am going to miss my friend Doug Peters who passed through the open door two weeks ago. After being clean for years and publishing his first book, 'You Don't Know Jack', he reached for the door.
For me, I'm going to continue to pass the doors that lead that way. 4 years plus now.

Is this song about heroin?
thiscantbesustained 2 years ago
No it isn't about heroin. This song is about living long enough to watch some of your friends die.

@jiminalbany
I know the songwriters and yes, some of their friends have died from drug problems but that's not the main message.
