When Taka talks about the armour it's almost like she's talking about something entirely different. Like, the armour is just something you put on, but the man who wears it has earned that title of Samurai which represents Loyalty, Bravery and Honour.
Every mans deepest desire in life is to get married to a women like Taka! she epitomizes the perfect wife! Not like these modern day whores (sorry for the language) who are loud, brash, foul mouthed, sexually promiscuous, have no idea of what being in love is, sleep around, cheat, drink themselves into drunken stupors and basically act like the bad types of men. Thank you soo much feminist for telling women they can be like men! feminits f****d up the beauty, modesty and humbleness of women!
Just want to point out that, to a Japanese woman of the mid-nineteenth century, Tom Cruise is one ugly mofo. Admirable, courageous, honorable, great with kids, but, butt ugly. Funny, isn't it? His nose is huge, his eyes are misshapen, his skin is too white, he is waaaay too hairy. lol
mmy friends it is not very complicated . ALLL u have to be is white thats all, u can kill her japanese husband hahahah she will still loveee youuuu...Whites ruleeeeeee
So beautiful, but it had to be the most difficult thing a woman could ever have to do is dress your husband our man for his own death! My husband was in the army and I couldn't imagine having to dress him in his uniform to go and possibly be killed within the next few hours. The love and irony of the relationship was just beautifully written. Especially because he keeps his promise that he would never forget her kindness to him. BRAVO
I can´t imagine any other such touching scene in any of the recent movies or the movies of the last 60 years. When she looks at him. Why aren´t the women today like this?
This scene is very beautiful! But the translation is wrong though... She actually says: This armor will look good on you, but please, let me check if the lower part will fit well.... And then she takes his Kimono off!!! Aruugurin San was about the same height of her husband, but the american sword was probably bigger....
@omg5501 you can feel all the sadness in their eyes, their despair, their loneliness. But in the same time, they understand each other and need each other.
But you're right there were other touching moments, especially the very last scene.
this is a movie about an ex-soldier, getting hired by the Japanese to trains Japanese soldiers. the ex-soldier ends up fighting a pack of samurais, killing a samurai wearing red armor, and gets erotic with the dead samurais wife. he became a samurai, the man, the legend. he ended as the last samurai.
Many would think that "The Last Samurai" is about an american man becoming the last samurai but, the movie actually refers to Katsumoto as the last samurai (and was modeled after Saigo Takamori, the real-life Last Samurai) and not Algren. Algren was the character used to discover and meet Katsumoto and lived to tell the tale of the Last Samurai to the emperor and his people. Algren can never be a samurai since he did not come from a samurai family. This misconception can be very popular.,,
@TheMofos123 actually "samurai" in the context of the title is plural, referring to not just katsumoto, but all of the samurai, since they were the last before japan embraced western modernism.
man...that final shot of him looking out while she lays her head on his back gets me every time. it's almost like she's struggling to connect with him but deeply wants to
@P0rtilla Plot comprehension fail? This is a film about "the last samurai" being an American. Historical accuracy fail, bro.
Despite how good and emotionally involving the film is, the plot could easily be skewed as yet more convoluted Hollywood pro-American "this is real life" propoganda.
This is not the best moment. The best moment is when the samurai guy talks to him under the blossom tree and tells the haiku. THIS is one of the beautiful, and gentle romantic scene. NOT a best moment.
This movie keeps coming up on HBO and Showtime. im a grown man n this scene gets my eyes all watery everytime. Im like what the hell is a matter with me? haha deepest touching scene ever!!
I love this scene and this movie. Tom Cruise never did a better movie. In my lifetime I visited Japan six times. I deeply mourn "her." I come back to this scene as do many of you. Perhaps, I think, because there are so few experiences in our lives that are beautiful. This scene is my ideal; what I would wish to strive for.
@Adamazeroni So true. A beautiful love scene that leaves even the toughest man choked up and honors the relationship between man and woman. This was more than a movie; it was a lesson in life.
@assia735 u are making a good point. in the past 20 years we saw countless civil wars and evasions...iraq afganistan egypt israel libya and many more....
I love this movie. I believe it is the best movie he has ever done. This "love scene" has more power and grace than anything I have seen that has come out of Hollywood in the past decade.
My favorite part is when Katsumoto is dying and sees the cherry blossoms and realizes that there is no imperfections in any of the flowers, that "they are all perfect". To this day I still cry every time I see that part. By far the greatest scene in any movie.
she wants his WHITE dick......hahahahaha, white men are kings in japan....they don't need to klearn martial arts they get women easy anyways bcoz they are WHITE,,
This movie captures the mystery and beauty of Japan so wonderfully. From the smooth language, to the careful movements that the people take in everything they do. Japan is a work of art!
the woman applies her perfume onto the helmet and armor so that if her man should fall in battle, he will remember her in his final moments and know that he is not alone.
my favorite scene is in the final battle. The part when Cruise looks to see guns firing away and getting flanked so he tells the messenger to call in Ujio and the reinforcements. Right after Ujio is riding in with the others on the horses scene and you hear them battle cry, (heres my best part of the movie), You see Wantanabe slashing away killing someone and then with the hype of the kill he screams and stomps for Ujio coming in. The look on his face is the amazing part stomping. PRICELESS. lol
people can hate and mock tom cruise all they want, but he gave me some of the best movie experiences of my life, and for that i am grateful, and this scene is proof that there is something so beautiful in this world and its worth fighting for, and worth dying for.
@hoodfigga33 you forgot one thing and that is he didn't create those scenes writing the scripts or music! The credit should go to the people behind the scenes of movies like this that make Cruise and others the actors they are!!!
@hoodfigga33 my best movie experience in my life is the climatic moment in 'top gun' where 'maverick' tells 'slider' he stinks, this helped me become the person I am today, thanks tom, and god bless.
Exactly mate. I was moved too and inspired by this scene of pure love and honor. It's so deep and beautiful I think words are not needed, just like any physical touch is not needed in this scene.
@hoodfigga33 lol u mean the writers and director of the movie gave u the best movie experiences, for tom(the actor) is just a tool used by them. U can say that they needed tom to make it, but work im sure they could of found some1 else to fill the part just as well (like christian bail for example).
This ONE of the more powerful scenes in the movie.
How Captain Algren went from being despised by the wife of the warrior he was forced to kill to her respecting and even admiring him was capture in this scene. And very few words were used to "show" how her feelings had changed toward him.
What does it mean to be Samurai? To devote yourself utterly to a set of moral principles. To seek a stillness of your mind. And to master the way of the sword. To belong to the warrior in whom the old ways have joined the new......
You would think natural selection would have turned our species into nothing but cowards. The men who would charge to the front lines and fight gloriously would be killed off, leaving the cowards who would stay home to reproduce.
Someone asked how she could love the man who killed her husband? The answer is she was samurai & she didn't marry her husband because she loved him-she married him because she was obligated to marry whomever her father or head of her clan told her to/arranged for her to marry. She may have respected him, liked him or even loved him as a friend, but her marriage to him may have had very little to do w/ love. Algren-she could respect him (after he dried out) & trusted him to take care of her.
@joetylerdale he's in fact an awesome actor, u simply antisympathize with him due to his political and religious points of views. u simply are unable to differ between his private life and his job. go figure.
Could there be a more intimate moment? The gentleness of her touch moving in a poetic motion demonstrates her love for a man she did not expect to gaze upon ever again.
@murilonightmare She is physically beautiful but what makes her infinitely more beautiful than any catwalk model is how she carries herself as a true lady full of poise, self respect and femininity.
@blade004 totally agreed, the hole scene, her cuteness and femininity gives a warm temper to the scene, something like u feel deeply in love with all this emotion of the actress, and of course, physically she looks great.
i started kenjutsu training about a week, so was searching some stuff related, even for fun, their culture and way of seeing life really inspires me
@murilonightmare I am glad you agree, she certainly is incredibly special and definitely a woman i would have no trouble falling madly in love with given the traits she does possess in the movie. Actually my ex fiance (girlfriend of 5 years) was Korean and possessed many of these qualities, i miss her.
I have not heard of Kenjutsu but it does seem rather interesting because i am considering doing something martial arts related for mental discipline and focus so i might look into it :)
i love this movie!! its kinda bloody, but it made me cry.... even this was over 200 years ago, i still feel bad for those who died.... OMG!! THAT AMERICAN GUY SURVIVED OVER 16 BULLETS!!!
@TheRealDeal1515 Okay, I'll buy it I think. ;) I've seen the little part you said already in a mix of moments in a youtube-clip. So, what other music do you like? (A)
@TheRealDeal1515 Yes, I believe that scene w/ the emperor is one of the best scene. The other one would be when the samurai (forgot his name) said, before releasing Algren to his ppl, a very short haiku. And then said, how they have become friends...in such an indirect way. Amazing.
You can see so much pain hidden behind her eyes... no matter how much she smiles :'(

The purist of LOVE is right in front of us, this scene
DesAnne100 1 year ago
Someone asked how she could love the man who killed her husband? The answer is she was samurai & she didn't marry her husband because she loved him-she married him because she was obligated to marry whomever her father or head of her clan told her to/arranged for her to marry. She may have respected him, liked him or even loved him as a friend, but her marriage to him may have had very little to do w/ love. Algren-she could respect him (after he dried out) & trusted him to take care of her.

There is no need for sex because she say's it all in her movements, and eyes.
She is in love with him and does not want him to die in Battle, she want's him to come back for her two sons.

Tom Cruise is both the ultimate douche bag and a superb actor, go figure!
joetylerdale 1 year ago
@joetylerdale he's in fact an awesome actor, u simply antisympathize with him due to his political and religious points of views. u simply are unable to differ between his private life and his job. go figure.

@myvideoduzzle And you are unable to read a simple statement, o figure.

Could there be a more intimate moment? The gentleness of her touch moving in a poetic motion demonstrates her love for a man she did not expect to gaze upon ever again.

Other than Glory, this is Edward Zwick's best movie ever tremendously underrated.

the japonese woman is stuning beautiful! *.*
murilonightmare 1 year ago
@murilonightmare She is physically beautiful but what makes her infinitely more beautiful than any catwalk model is how she carries herself as a true lady full of poise, self respect and femininity.
blade004 1 year ago 3
@blade004 totally agreed, the hole scene, her cuteness and femininity gives a warm temper to the scene, something like u feel deeply in love with all this emotion of the actress, and of course, physically she looks great.
i started kenjutsu training about a week, so was searching some stuff related, even for fun, their culture and way of seeing life really inspires me
nice movie, even that as bloody, made me cry too
murilonightmare 1 year ago
@murilonightmare I am glad you agree, she certainly is incredibly special and definitely a woman i would have no trouble falling madly in love with given the traits she does possess in the movie. Actually my ex fiance (girlfriend of 5 years) was Korean and possessed many of these qualities, i miss her.
I have not heard of Kenjutsu but it does seem rather interesting because i am considering doing something martial arts related for mental discipline and focus so i might look into it :)

The most touching moment is when he's in front of the emperor and the emperor asks him a question.
Emperor: " tell me how he died "
Algren : " I'll tell you how he lived. "
Isn't it just beautiful ?
Well, after all, I think the entire movie was the best part :)

@TheRealDeal1515 Can you send me a link or something of that part?
Is there a full movie of this movie on youtube? I really want to watch this film!
Xsulhero 1 year ago
@Xsulhero I really don't have any links, and I doubt that you'll find the full movie on youtube.
I have the movie and that's why I can watch it whenever I want. You should buy it too.
TheRealDeal1515 1 year ago
@TheRealDeal1515 Okay, I'll buy it I think. ;) I've seen the little part you said already in a mix of moments in a youtube-clip. So, what other music do you like? (A)

@TheRealDeal1515 Absolutely!
specialist28s 1 year ago
@TheRealDeal1515 Yes, I believe that scene w/ the emperor is one of the best scene. The other one would be when the samurai (forgot his name) said, before releasing Algren to his ppl, a very short haiku. And then said, how they have become friends...in such an indirect way. Amazing.

This movie is just not a movie it shows an entire new way of living life. THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI
