I saw this tour in NJ & they had already dropped this song from the set - much to Trevor's objections. I liked this album much more than 90125. Thought the sound and production were better, especially the drums. But leave it to me to love albums that the authors always cite as troubling times for them."I'm Running" is an extraordinary peice of work and a song I've never tired of.
@feltingme Awesome tour~! I saw YES first in Vancouver, Canada and then two months later in Frankfurt, Germany. Incredible band, incredible music and oh, what a show!
i did not see this tour, but have always thought the period/lineup was an important part of the Yes timeline...i do not see how anyone(fans or some members of the band itself) would slight Trevor Rabin's contributions for a SECOND-i mean, come on.
Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!! I was there back in 88'. this was one of the last concerts in the Sportatorium before the greedy land developers bought the land, closed the facility and the race track...... RIP we all miss the good times we had out there.........How things have changed............ At least some things like this music are timeless........
At 4:22 to 5:40 Trevor is just magnificent, and plays with such inspiring passion and fire, elevating this sublime song. What an epic suite of divine grandeur and beauty with a resounding voice and inspiring message for the ages.
I love the short guitar solo that starts at 2:45. That gets me every time. I'm pretty sure he added the unison bass part on Big Generator. Also a great drum track. Alan White just lays it down, steady as a rock.
Unfortunately, it took too much time between the release of a next album? That stole a lot of the magic they could have achieved with this line-up. I Love Trevor's Strat! It had a mishap and was almost broken completely when passing it to his guitar Tech & it getting dropped & cracked the neck a bit I think?
being a musicion and following "YES" all my life I have 2 things too say. 1; listen to the chemistry, 2; focus. (the later is most important). These men have a way of finding wonders most of us will never know in music.
Trevor was the best thing that ever happened to yes in the 80's & 90's. He revived the band & injected new artistry, & creativity, was their chief songwriter when they ran out of songs & ideas, produced, arranged & plays guitar all like the artistic genuis he is..and this song, is one of his greatest..what profound lyrics, and what a magnificent guitar suite..and his vocals make just elevate the song.
@RICHARDTRICHMOND Thanks Richard, you're right, Trevor's accident was during the 90125 tour. You might enjoy a 2 part video here on YT on "The Making Of Leave It"..(I just found it and added it..you can look there)..where in Part 1, Trevor kiddingly discusses his accident and his 4 spleens, which became 3 spleens after this..and Directors Godley & Creme, who directed the video for "Leave It' also kid around about Trevor's amazing 4, then 3 spleens! Fact is stranger than fiction! LOL!
@RICHARDTRICHMOND Also, you'll love "The Making Of Leave It" Richard, very insightful with tons of interviews with Trevor, Jon, Tony, Godley & Creme, and behind the scenes cool stuff! Check it out! You can also find it on my friend PilotCessna208 who just uploaded it! It's in 2 parts! :D
@vivelavidarocka Thanks! One of the things I love about Trevor is with Yes, his solo work, & his film composing, he's always open to new, innovative, fresh & exciting ideas..he never becomes some afraid monolith stuck in stagnant mode or in the past..and his wonderful expressiveness moved Yes forward in such artistic new directions..from 90125, to BG, to Union to Talk!
Too Bad they didn't do Final Eyes or I'm Running at this show. And too bad at this venue in 1984 they didn't do Our Song. They only did those a few times on those tours. Big Generator and 90125
It's amazing that this show wasn't cancelled or postponed to. I was at the 2 Tampa shows and this one. The shows on this tour were very loud. Shoot High aim Low was so loud that I thought the ceiling would crack. The shows from 1997 to 2004 were too low.
After this show they cancelled some shows. Trever was sick. In fact it's lucky this show wasn't cancelled. The night before at the Tampa Sun Dome they had to stop the show before Roundabout. They did not do it. Trever was ill
The 80s lineup sustained the band. BG is a weak album, but this is a killer song. Wouldn't mind seeing an 80's era tour, much more than touring with a replacement singer.
For me as an Anderson-type of YES fan, aside from the nice return album Talk, the only musically remarkable song of their more commercial era. Nevertheless, really a "cool" song: I think, comparable, e.g., to the great beginning of Pink Floyd's Time or the epic ending of Private Investigations of Dire Straits. Well done ... as always!
I loved watching the audiences faces live when the bass pedals kicked in like at 7:19. You could just see the expressions of awe and wonder all over the house. It's like someone had opened the revealing science of God for all to know and understand. Pun intended!
@SciFiBMovieGuy - every man on Earth listening more or a less different part of world music than other. ;) In m opinion Stairway to Heaven is very good song, because it has own specific atmosphere. Today, I listen more Led Zeppelin and I know that are some almost good songs as "Stairway...". But I shouldn't compare this because of reason that I written above.
@pzix Stairway to Heaven, IMHO, was overrated and is still overplayed to this day. Even though I've always been a Zep fan, "Stairway to Heaven" was one of my least favorite songs. The only thing it does for me nowadays is bring back memories of the 70s (which weren't all bad).
Now, take the Yes song in this video. I don't know why it never got more airplay than it did, because it's an awesome one.
One of the best songs of all time, from any band! And as I have done for the past 20 years, I will still be listening to it 20 years from now! A great song for the ages!!
I was borned in Poland, 1980 when our country was objected by comunism - however YES music was available to listen thanks to my Father as well! I growth throughout this music...thank you YES, you are amazing !
I liked the Rabin years better;I judge my view this way;their Howe years had a few real successes but the Rabin years were loaded and they were huge both in sound and commercially but without ever being a commercially driven band in fact big generator was considered commercial suicide after the 90125 production.
It seems like every incarnation of Yes, I miss the other. I love classic Yes but I also miss Yes-West. It's time for a new Yes-Rabin project even if it's a one time excursion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Absolutely adore this song. I have pretty much everything Yes ever officially released and have to say that I massively prefer the Rabin era. The songs were far stronger, properly harmonic and melodic, and they never self indulged the way they did prior that. Plus, Rabin is a far better guitarist than Steve Howe and his tone doesn't grate like nails down a blackboard. I just can't listen to Howe's playing anymore. He must have taken years of tweaking to get the tone from a Gibson so wrong!
Great album great song. btw, i like 90125, big generator and that one that came after (cant remember the name atm) more than this Close to the edge and Relayer stuff. Also Going for the one is nice. But Big generator ist MOST UNDERRATED, absolutely. One of my all time favorites of prog rock.
BEST 80's song. I know the 80's aren't known for musical excellence, But Marillion, Asia were part of them too. So it means something...I think. ....Great fucking song anyways. Timeless.
Can't argue with you about the musicians and the musicianship, but the performance is exceptional, and the recording better. I'll take back my comment about "Yes" as a cohesive performance group. They never did have the magic after Fragile, but "Owner of a Lonely Heart" was great, and I'd put "Shoot Hi.." with it, and even more like the Fragile stuff. So, as a band, and from you're observations, they were essentially dead long before this song (briefly) hit the charts in 1987.
Have you ever listened to Mindrive from Keys? or Birthright from ABWH? Have you ever seen YES in the round in the seventies? For me, that's why it's so tough to get int this Rabin era...Why did it take 4 tears to write this "masterpiece?" Such a long gap from 90125,,No? Even Siberia goes thru the motions!
Shut the fuck up dude. You don't like it. Don't listen to it. Why are you fucking here for? To let us know how good the band used to be before this era. Yes, WE KNOW IT,.... you pompous turd. ANd if we like the old Yes AND the Rabin era YES, then don't you think we have a more eclectic taste in music than you? And that is ridiculous? Fuck off.
My "point " is this. This song cannot hold up to any one note on Fragile...Totally differnt musicianship/composition and quality of music?! Rabin kept the group YES alive when it was dead. That was his sole purpose. Maybe you should ask the guys playing keyboards underneath the stage. Yes,,they had musicians under the stage on all 3 Rabin/Yes tours,,,how lame is that...Certainly,,,you didn't think Kaye would have held a candle to Rick on Fragile?
Yes...I love all that they do and wonder whats wrong with a person that will say they don't like them. It's got to be something wrong with their hearing.
I am old enough to be considered part of the Yes old school. Still, I love thier new stuff. Big Generator had some great songs, this is one of my all time favourite Yes songs.Great to see it performed live again. Thanks so much for posting!!!!
This song has a very..."etherial" feel to it,much like Robert Plant's 'Big Log'.... sort of on the highway in a convertible at night ,in the desert under a star lit sky...alone with your thoughts etc....
I saw Yes in '88 on the Big Generator tour, and was partying after in The Hilton, across from the Pensacola Civic Center. I was waiting for the elevator with friends, and when the doors opened there was Jon Anderson! With the 80s glittered hair, silver makeup and metallic cape, he was quite a sight! Jon said hello in his unique high voice and seemed to float by like an unearthly being... we just said "hello!" and "incredible show" as as he passed by us. Great ending to an incredible concert!!
Even though this is my all-time favorite Yessong ever, even though every damn time I listen to this I tear up, even though this song has been with me throughout my life to this day and beyond, even though I love Jon and Yes with all my heart - even with all that - this was the FIRST time I have EVER seen this song performed. It has taken me so very long. Thank you SO MUCH for putting this on here......you've no idea what it means to me. Karen P.
That's what I thought, then I read the description and thought WOW some 21 years ago. Bet that song would still sound as good today as it did back then
I saw this tour in NJ & they had already dropped this song from the set - much to Trevor's objections. I liked this album much more than 90125. I agree with all that you have said about The Trevor Rabin!!!
One thing though....
Trevor had his problem in the Pool and the Large Woman(lol I like that!), It was during the 90125 tour.

Tony said Trevor is now....spleenless....haha...

Karen P.
