I just saw my first Guy Maddin film - "Careful". I am hooked. I've got to see his other films. I appreciate his attempt to "facsimile" the way memories work in dreams. That being said, I have always wanted to understand dreams better so perhaps slowing down the images and not having them flash by would allow me to appreciate them or understand them better. This is why I like Tarkovsky. His films are sloooooooooow.
His comment about putting his own stuff on youtube reminds me of this part of his book where he talks about how he found one of his movies on VHS at a thrift store so he signed it...I spent the next few days daydreaming that I could find that!
Loved the movie. At first I thought the frantic cutting around would become unbearable and by halfway I had forgotten about it altogether and was immersed in the reverie
Guy Maddin, please direct an adaptation of House of Leaves.
