Unfortunately this didn't work for me. =( I have no idea why it would be so slow in even the _menu_, regardless of what settings you run. But anway, that icon theme are you using for Windows? It looks awesome.

And @Jkun: That's exactly how I feel! Except it doesn't matter whether I'm in the menu or in the game. I simply cannot play the game when it behaves like that.

@Colorshade You could try doing it in the Skyrim folder that's inside your My Documents folder; there are .ini files in there also, and sometimes it works there but not from the Steam folder.

The icon set is called Buuf if you wish to google it. ^.^

Any way to get rid of the cursor sliding? When you move the screen from left to right or in a circle..the game will keep moving after you stop and it is really annoying.

For some reason this doesn't work for me...

The menu's are reasonably smooth, but the gameplay is still hindered a lot.

If I move the mouse to the right quickly, the screen only moves like a tenth of a second later, if you do it really fast it even feels like a whole second.

@blesyl67 update your skyrim. either you have an illegal version of the game that does not update automatically or, for some unknown reason you have not updated recently, because in one of the recent updates they allowed the use of the mouse in dialog/menus, and inventory.

To those getting access Denied when trying to change ini things around, go to Elder Scrolls v Skyrim folder INSIDE programs86 folder on the hard drive. Right click the Elder Scrolls folder and click properties. Go to security tab and go to set it to Users (you have to be admin to do this) and edit it to where they get all control. Then save, close, and you can change around the words in Ini. file. Again, you have to be admin.

I've tried everything and nothing seems to fix my problem. Not sure if it is mouse lag...

Look at a broom, barrel, dead body, weapons, light source, anything really and it stutters and lags. Go into 3rd person and it's all gone.

I've done these fixes and nothing works. Tried the FPS limiter but it only adds vertical screen tear... Really starting to hate Bethesda more and more each year.

@iTzBryceYo Download Dxtory, free trial. I deleted the game content, installed from backup discs and did NOTHING to the ini. or add in the FPS Limiter. Set frame cap to 60 and now no more mouse lag, no more screen tear, jitters, nothing.

And with the skse + TESVAL I get about 40+ frames in towns/cities and about 35 in Markarth. I was ready to just kill Bethesda and save the word from more horrible console port games... But I'll let them live... for now.

Yes I have - in case it helps, I think you need to mouse-over the item preview image (as opposed to having the cursor over the menu item) and then zoom in with the mouse wheel.

Not to contradict, but I believe the appropriate one to edit is found on the documents/mygames/skyrim folder. Edit THAT skyrimprefs.ini not the one located in your steam folder. If you look at the steamfolder one, check on last modified. It will probably say the same time the game was installed, whereas the one in the mygames part should be more recent, because that's the one the game actually uses and changes

@BlackLeafSkate I switched from CamTasia to Fraps. CamTasia only records at 30fps whereas Fraps can record up to 60, and is generally a lighter recording software to run. :)

For all the people having the ACCESS DENIED problem, here is what you need to do.

- Go to Program Files and find The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

- Right click the file and go to properties

- Go to the Security tab and click Edit

- Select Users, then check the box where it says Full control under Allow
