  • its plastic

  • the thistle was the special symbol of te scotts meaning protection.

  • funny thing the symbol on the hilt is actually an irish symbol the harp was a symbol of the irish military and could be found engraved on hilts and blades.......

  • i have one that has the cameron of locheil crest on it (it was my grandfathers)

  • That thing is a piece of junk. Plastic handle & sheath, imported from China, sells for a few cents on ebay. Det yourself a real sgian dubh, good ones run about $350.00 and up. If its not Scottish, its crrrap!

  • This is a sgian (or sgian dubh). We wear it in our hose, or sock, when wearing the kilt. It is NOT a dirk! (A dirk is like a short sword carried on the right hip, attached to the waistbelt. The dirk is normally only worn with Scottish uniform or with formal evening attitre.)

  • @shadowwarrior03 Actually, a dirk is a dagger, descendent of the ballock dagger.

I made both my sgian dubhs and dirk from scrapped marine stainless (being the boat builder that I am), the handle of the dirk from jamaican dogwood and the handles of the sgian dughs from florida mahogany, both woods being native to Florida.

  • i have one from that same company...

  • 420 is not good only stainless is sandvik 12c27 or aus8
