"This is beauty and the Beast but in Russian." This is not correct I think. This cartoon based on the faire tale "The Scarlet Flower". The farie tale by Aksakov - Russian writer (1791 - 1859).
I don't understand why i can't find an english version anywhere and it even says that there has never been one but I grew up watching this exact film in english
Who the hell translated this? Shit, I haven't lived in Russia for twenty years and I can certainly do better. It's the same with Rabinya Isaura, half assed translating.
I had this movie on a recorded video tape once, and I loved it very much, I would so much love to watch all of it again, but this is great. there was also the other movies very much in this style at the tape, one about the seven cursed swans, and another about a prince who build a magical kingdom on the iseland where he and his mother became marooned. brings back nice memories
The song is filled with such beauty. When the person wrote this music, he didn't just right ifor money, he meant everey note! You could feel the deep mystery and sadness, but yet happy and lonley at the same time. Absloutley wonderful animation! Beautiful.
This has been dubbed into English twice: first, on "Forever Fairy Tales: Charles Perrault" and, more recently, on Mikhail Baryshnikov's "Stories From My Childhood" featuring the voices of Amy Irving, Robert Loggia, and Tim Curry as the Beast (who REALLY wanted to voice the Beast in the Disney version).
I saw it on PBS when I was like 11 and still remeber it! I tried to but it on DVD but all the sites that sell it are in Russian and I have no clue what they are saying! lol
I also went to that website.. but I couldn't figure out how to watch the whole thing. =[
first of all thank you for usin the video i uploaded at my site beauty-and-the-beast[.]com but you should give me credits for taking it from there. You even copied my description from my site of this video...the only credits are the watermark of my site in the video. I would like if u fix it
where you translated: sing to me, Zamovoshka. She actually said: sing to me, (solovushka) .. solovey or a softer version of the same word is solovushka. It's a type of bird. I *think* it's a nightingale, but I'm not sure. Anyways, thanks for putting the video up. :)
Yes, it is a nightingale. Nightingales are pretty significant birds in Russian folklore, as in other European cultures. Anyway, thanks for pointing that out, I was going to do that as well, but you beat me to it and explained it better than I would have. ^^ Anyway, I love this film; I grew up watching it.
Oh I am so happy to have found this online. My aunt had given me a tape of the film when I was younger and it holds such sentimental value for me. This Russian version, the original, is so much more poignant than the English though the American is more visually stunning. Nevertheless, for me, the Beauty will always be Nastenka and not Belle.
I rememebr watching thsi years ago back in Russia. Hah it was on NTV... good channel. This doesnt have the "russian" feeling to it because of the surrowndings
Her voice is pretty but she is not :( Four stars :) Did this come out before the english beauty and the beast? Im guessing so *it looks old, but very realistic, too realistic. Kinda scary but in a good way lol* the beast is also creepy. The way they talk reminds me of frankenstein for sum reason 0_o btw like my essay? I didnt think it would fit but apparently it does :)
Also, I didn't put subtitles under the rest because it's harder for me to understand Russian when it's being sung. I might be Russian but I don't know the language PERFECTLY!

This is very nice cartoon. Russian's cartoons are better than Disney's of the same age. The one, who didn't see them won't agree.
The best Russian cartoons were made in 1950's and 60's. You should be broght up on this cartoon to understand it. And I don't mean lyrics
