  • Thanks for your advice Davie, all the best, G

  • Hi Davie,

what would be your - never leave "home without" flies for uk seatrout.

    cheers g

  • Hi AAAGTE,

Here is a list of flies that I used many years ago as unfortunatley our rivers now have very few or none...Medicine Fly, Silver or Pearl bodies Stoats Tail, Sweeny Todd Original and the one above, Black and Silver Surface Lure, Silver and Original Goats Toe, Gray Monkey and finally Claret Connemara..

I hope this is of some help to you....

    All the best Davie

  • thanks

  • i need another deadly pattern for sea trout, any suggestions, thanks

  • could you make another sea trout fy???

  • Hi helopoblgwyn,

If there's a pattern which is popular and I have the materials then I would be happy to tye it for you. The problem where I live is that the seatrout are like hens teeth very rare to see and catch due to the fish farms that have polluted the seas where I live with sealice which has wiped them out...ATB Davie

  • Hi combatchris2011,

The Red Devil is a fly that I wouldn't leave home without and I know many others that would do the same, I will see what I can do...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie:

Was fishing for smallmouth with an orange variant of this fly, near the surface and i started catching carp one after another! What do you think the carp thought it was... so i can tye a cheaper version without a streamer hook... I ruled out crawfish because it was not on the bottom... Thanks

    Zachthefisherman

  • Hi zachthefisherman,

The Sweeny Todd does give a great impression of a small fry pattern which it's meant to do, so I would say that the orange version that you tyed did the same so well done on doing this...All the best Davie

  • hi dave lovely fly. dave could you show me how to tie on sedge wings like the silver sedge ect thank you

  • Excellent, as usual! Thanks (x200 :-))

  • Hi Davie,

Thanks again for passing on your skills - a magnificent contribution greatly appreciated by the planet's fly tyers!

    Keep them coming!

    Allan

  • Davie,

Thanks for showing us 200 ways to do it. Again can't tell you how much you have improved my tying. Many thanks.

    All The Best,

    Mark

  • Great fly,and thanks for showing 200 gems.

  • Congrats on the 200th video, this is the stuff that will set te asp on fire this seson.

    All the best from Romania

  • Davie amazing tie and congrats on your 200th video, I do hope the next 200 will be just as amazing! Teaching your self how to fish is difficult and finding someone that knows what there doing is a huge help! Its easy to show someone a pattern that works but to show them how to make it, fish it and tips is invaluable! I have never learnt so much off a fellow fisherman!

  • Hi Davie,

    many thanks from Italy!

    All the best

    Marco

  • Hi Dave, another lovely fly as per usual. One question, why did you use the first coloured thread when it's totally covered by the black floss and the glo Brite. Would it matter what colour you used? Regards Scott

  • Hi Scott,

I used the UTC flo-cerise just to help keep the thorax area as bright as possible, if I had used a black thread it would have been slightly duller and to be honest with you I have tyed many a sweeny todd with black thread and it still worked fine. I'm sure if I had used black thread someone would have said that I should have used a lighter colour, it's your preference..I appreciate the question...ATB Davie

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm glad you liked the 200th fly, I never thought that I would have put as many on..Thanks again for all the kind comments...

    All the best Davie

  • kinda off the wall question but how do you pick what flies you want to do. Do you just wake up and say ... wow I want to tie (Insert fly name here) today

  • Hi shemakesitclap,

As you know I do get asked a few questions and for flies to be tyed, this one does a few at once. I was asked could I tye a seatrout fly, small streamer and stealhead pattern which has both feathers and hair combined so this is the one I came up with as well I wanted to tye some...ATB Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail Thanks for responding, I was just wondering

  • Hi Davie , what can i say, if i was to put this fly in my box it would make all the ones i've tyed look like rubbish, beautiful fly, that grizzle cape looked great what was it, also i keep asking you about bug bond but if you didn't use the torch wouldn't it cure with sunlight on its own? congratulations on 200 videos, very generous of you. Regards Alan

  • Hi Alan,

All flies are good if they catch fish and I'm sure yours will too..I have never tried to see if the sun would set the bug-bond but I may try it just to see if it would, I'll let you know if it does..

    All the best Davie

  • thats another great fly i would like to try out ,,,do you fish many singles when out on the river davie for salmon.

  • Hi urbanflyman36,

To be honest I use doubles hooks more for salmon but for seatrout it's singles..I'm glad you liked the pattern..ATB Davie

  • WOW 200 Videos! Incredibly generous of you to do these for everyone.

    Thanks!

  • happy 200th video davie !
