It's not that don't respect James LaBrie's talent as a musician. He has an incredible range and tone control, but unfortunately what I don't like about him is his Timbre. At least not for metal. I think it's fair of me to dislike the way his voice sounds in this musical context. It's just never quite meshed for me. That's all.
@KVHelwig1337 I agree on the Timbre part but he has fucked up his voice multiple times. In the last couple of years it's been getting better and better.
James is a nice guy. And Dream Theater is AMAZING, no argument. But, in my opinoin, James holds the band back. Ive heard amny singers that have a better singing ability than him. Hes good, but not great. Most people can hit the notes he does. Sorry..
Well, youre wrong. James has an very special voice, like it or not. He can sing very high notes( The notes he sing ARE amazingly high! ), by using hes famous "head-voice"-technic. He is known as one of the best metalsingers. But he has suffered many injures, but even if hes voice is back, he doesnt have the same pipes anymore.
What?? My biggest musiclove is DT!! I wa´sn´t dissing him. You can critize your favoriteband, I thinks it´s ok. But you seem to think that "Ohh they are soo godly every song/album is perfect!!" As I said, James is an awesome singer and can take notes at this age, that a singer like Bruce Dickinson could only dream about when he was 25!! B T W, I HATE dragonforce.
Bruce sings like he did in the eighties. Awesomely. He might not be able to hit as high notes as James can but his energy and lower notes are amazing.
He sings better than he did in the 80´s. I got DVD´s from them live at that time, and he sings like false, got always problems with high notes, and so on.
Today he sing better, but still not hundred live. He rocked in the 90´s, under he´s solocareer. That was he´s best years, he says so himself. But I think he did awesome under he´s first Maidenyears, like Number of the beast an Piece of Mind, but after that he wasn´t so good live. But he has never had a singing-coaching.He could be better
Agree to disagree. For the energy it takes to be the co-frontman/singer for Maiden, Bruce could (and I emphasize "could") sound REALLY bad today. Just look at Brian Johnson's current vocal work at live performances of old song.
I don't know if you even know what head voice is...James doesn't falsetto on high notes, unless for songs like Prophets of War. His F# on LTL and G# on Score's Ocatavarium are chest.
james is simply the voice of dreamtheater. it doesnt matter how good he is or whatever your critism was getting at, james' vocal style has become a defining feature of the sound of dream theater and he just wont be able to be replaced

he ruptured his chords in cuba from food poisoning?...........it was probably because he got "high on his own supply" or got mixed in with dat piece of chit Antonio montana from cuva....lol!scarface rules and so does james labrie
Well this was a few years a go and I was about 20 and they were the biggest stars in my view and they were playing two nights here in oslo.
The first night I brought my 35mm camera and took a roll of pics from FIRST row. They came out REALLY great and I got them developed the morning after. I then went to the hotel and waited for them in the lobby. When they all came down they all stopped, looked at and signed the pics. James was so nice and I still hold DT as high as Queen, my two loves.

That's still a stupid excuse to even THINK of dissing him, or the band.
You're obviously a Dragonforce fan...

yeah. But when on Octavarium dos he sing an G#? You mean the Score version when he screams?
888erkan888 2 years ago
Yep. The last "TRAPPED INSIDE THIS OCTAVARIUM" ends with a G# on score. On the original version of the album, it's F#, though.

@RockRulez124 seriously?! a G*5?

James is really nice considering how other stars react to interviewers mistakes like that-he didn't get angry and rush out of the room.
He is really patient and tries to give proper answers because he knows that us fans are gonna watch the clip and the interviewer doesn't matter.
James is a great guy-I've met him myself in oslo and have the pics to proove it.
