I'm sorry. Forgive me, but this is hysterical. WTF? Poe had no intention of his masterpiece to be recited this way. This is a mockery. Absurd. Sorry. I struggle to either laugh or become enraged.
@THEiKarleigh He may have been trying to sound like Walter Brennen. His reading of this poem was famous in his day. Also, the speaker is supposed to be an old man, so I think the voice also fits because of this.
@ShushLorraine Wow, I don't think I KNEW Walter Brennen recorded this. I was trying to use his voice as it seemed to perfect age and sentimentality for this emotional piece.
Hate to self promote, but I would really love if some of you guys checked out my poetry and gave me your thoughts. Everything on my channel is written and read by me, personally. I don't have much work up yet, but that will change soon.
You don't know at all how to read these types of poems correctly. You aren't reading it with its correct meter. In this type of poem you have to know how to read to the next punctuation.
Interesting idea using Walter Brennan, finding new ways to interpret Poe and to give new life to Walter. Would have liked to see this round a campfire in front of a chuck wagon.
Thank you Todd for being so gracious in filling my request. You are without a doubt one of the most talented individuals in cyberspace. I have shed so many tears reading this poem. I shed a few more tonight, but you are truly amazing!!!!
Excellent rendition! The voice was a little unexpected, as most recitals have more of a formal accent, not a flat American one. But this version sounds more authentically American, I hesitate to say, more like Mark Twain. Excellent vocal interpretation!
This reminds me of something from Dr. Suess.

Ok, sorry for being an ass, but it is Annabel and Allan. Please people, stop misspelling Poe's name. Again, sorry for being the ass here.

Ah, Walter Brennan, whenever I hear him I have to laugh. I have fond memories over laughing at Old Rivers.

I don't find this voice complimentary to the poem; especially when having heard it numerous times performed by Baez.

I think your voice in this rendition is a cross between Robert Service and Walter Brennan
