It is one of the bigger tragedies of rock and rock 'n' roll that this most magnificent band has been denied its just dues.
But the future will treat this masterpiece favorably. Good music is always just that - bloody good music, to say nothing of great music, as Spiderland represents.
Slint's fans, past and present, have such a visceral and almost spiritual connection with Spiderland that the album is assured of immortality.
@RecordingDIY I think people can feel whatever they feel, but not impose it on other people. If it's a spiritual thing for someone, awesome, enjoy it. To me it was a very physical thing, I couldn't watch this and stand still, with eyes closed. I had to bob my head hard, I had to make noise. I think everyone's reaction is good, let's not be nazis :)
@UWWS or maybe they were super excited to see a band from up close that for all intents and purposes, no longer exists? Or the music was making them excited and they were being vocal? Don't judge people's reactions to music...
Maybe you're used to seeing big rich rock bands playing in huge venues where they have armies of roadies and techs to do all that shit for them. Well this is the mighty Slint playing in a small bar on their own without all that bollocks. Amateurish? You're talking shit my friend. I saw them live in Dublin 6 years ago and they were anything but.
So is that Pajo on the right and some random guy they hired on the left to play guitar so that McMahon can concentrate on vocals? I suppose I should just shut up and be grateful that there's any live footage of Slint at all, but....
I got to see them play Spiderland from start to finish in NYC a couple years ago - absolutely spectacular. I'll never forget it. We are some of the lucky few!
@pandoraglory I disagree wholeheartedly, and the fact that most bands love to play for an audience like Brazil or Argentina, where you can fill a stadium and have all of them singing your songs and screaming like a Beatles fan in 1965 is proof.
This incredible piece truly transcends the arrangement. It envelops you in what is perhaps the most profound guitar ambience ever created. To quote Albini: "Ten Fucking Stars."

Why the fuck would you woo at a Slint concert?
It just seems a little out of place.
Interminater 3 years ago
Why the fuck would you express any emotion, ever. Especially when you're seeing a band you really love in a reunion from up close. Seriously.

@Interminater
I agree that a silent audience would push a band even further. Ah, human emotion.

Love this song so much.
It depicts how social anxiety feels so well(at least for me)

@RedBalls101 I agree immensely. The second I first heard this song I knew EXACTLY what he meant with his lyrics.
