  • You ever see that film 'Big Trouble in Little China'? There's a scene where one of the three storms keeps inflating until he explodes. Kinda reminds me of Diz..

  • Everybody wants to be in charge.

  • the line up is among the best.

    Mr. Busch was there?

And what did he learned ?

  • American Jazz!!!All Stars Brawo.

  • American Jazz!!!All Stars

  • If Itzhak Perlman is introducing you, you know you're fucking awesome !

  • HisTrumpet was the First to Endorse Viagra In e flat..................... Groove it high bye

  • Lets HEAR it 4-the boyz WHOOA. Itzhak was the only one shakin his head . WOEo , AndThe Wizard,of oz at Heart ,who's behind that curtain. Scary place to play. Hope they all ate a well and partied and got the Hell out of there safely..Getz always has that rip in His eyes .

  • It's not "Grooving High," it's Groovin' High

  • Chic Corea is the most underrated jazz pianist ever.

  • @1979saxman I'm not so sure chick corea is considered underrated.

  • Super Jazz Group!

  • How these guys could play at that level to the vibe this crowd emanate ... guess that is what it means to be a true pro

  • Nice...nice...But I wonder : when the good Musicians/Artist will stop to play for Iluminatis People..?

  • 2:58 He looks like hamster. .D It´s awesome music..

  • parece que se le van reventar los cachetes

  • Chick...

    MY REBEL MAN!!!

  • ungrateful audience

  • i wanna kiss youtube on the fuckin mouth

  • is that pearlman introducing?

  • What a group of musicians... Awesome to see, thanks for uploading

  • Dizzy looks incredibly young!

  • it's the greatest of jazz horns playing an "inappropriately" titled song to a bunch of WASPs who have their heads so far up their own asses that they can't be bothered to "get it." This is exactly what black comedians make fun of when they mention "white people." Even Getz is saying to himself "what the hell are we doing here playing for these squares" at 2:31!

  • Byt he way. Getz short solo is a monster!!.

  • Getz was fantastic and Dizzy!!! What lines.. And in the white house!

  • Lenny Bruce, when finding himself in front of an audience like this, would describe it as "Playing to Mt. Rushmore.....There's Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson, staring at you like you just buggered the Christmas Goose...."

  • 1982, I believe.

  • from what year is this video?

  • Comment removed

  • Why is there a Roland Space Echo at the white house?

  • what a Zombie audience!

  • amazing!

  • IMO Stan seems somehwat intimidated, but Dizzy is his ebullient self.

  • 2:35

    Un pez globo jajajajaj

  • Stunning!

  • Ur an asshole

  • roy plays sharp and precise, as always

  • Excuse my ignorance here, but why does Dizzy always play with the trumpet bell turned up like that? I've maybe only seen one or two other players with that. What's the difference/advantage?

  • Cos' he can at the same time look at ladies in the public and play towards the stars.

  • the story i've read is this : one day, someone sat, by mistake, on dizzy's trumpet and this one liked it.

  • yup, thats what happened. at frist dizzy was pissed but then he played and he realized that he could actually hear himself better thia way and it didnt sacrifice the sound or pitch of the trumpet, so he began having all his trumpets custom made to that unusual shape....

  • really? cause I read that an angry audience member bent the bell up so he couldn't play any more. can't really see the bell curving up from sitting on it...

  • @SiCmetalfan

That's not exactly true read Dizzy's book "To be or not to bop" One of Dizzy musician friends, a really fat guy, sat on is trumpet at a jam session, by accident. How do these false stories get started He was pissed about it but then he checked the sound out he liked it

  • hahah "grooving high"

  • いいなー本当に!

  • "Groovin' High" is just the thing that you want to hear, Mr. President, before you head into a meeting with the "Joint Chiefs of Staff." Was this performance given during the Reagan Administration? Delicious!

  • That was a message for them...

    Grovin' HIGH!... bastards!

  • Wooow, thats itzhak perlman presenting them!

  • No, that's not Izhak Perlman!

  • lol...hahaha!, Grooving '' High'' at the White House.....

    great,,, !

  • great performance

  • Great palying all round--exceptionally good, and Chick's comping adds his inimitable magic. Check out the related interview between Getz and Perlman in which Getz sings Corea's praises as the finest player to come out of his band. Praise indeed!

  • lol scary audience is right! izthak perlman introduces

  • wat kind of trrumpet is that thing??

  • It's Dizzy Gillespie's signature trumpet, it's just bent is all.

Not sure which story of how it happened is true but apparently he liked the tone.

  • Here's the story: Someone fell on the trumpet during a break back in the Bop Days. He came back from break & was furious!! He played it & liked the sound!!

  • but good stuff hes relly goooood

  • genius music, but scary audience. look at them, they hardly live.

  • @ksenos69 Stan turning his back on the Just Say No lady. Ha!

  • @ksenos69 hahaha, it's almost a wasted performance, if it wasn't for it being video documented this would have been lost!!!!

  • great solos and video

i like how at 3:40 stan stares down chick during his solo...

  • lol yeah thats kinda sketchy huh.

  • I love Stan (The Sound). Years later, he admitted while doing a record with Kenny Barron that he hadn't played sober in over a decade... so he was probably just buzzing a little bit there.

  • lol hes face blew upp

  • Years of playing had weakened the muscle structure in Dizzy's face, causing it to flex so dramatically. An occupational hazzard of some trumpet men.

  • wow what a song, what a line up, what a performance.

  • Was that Itsak Perlman introducing them??

  • That was definitely Itzhak! He seems to be right into the peformance, if you watch him during the audience shots. What on Earth a Bush could get out of a performance like this, God only knows.

Great performances by this amazing grouping.

  • Perlman also plays jazz. In 1993 he made an album with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown and Grady Tate called "Side By Side"

  • love the way dizzy puffs his head like that :PP still good stuff :)

  • Did anyone notice Miroslav starts right on the top of the form during the intro. Funny stuff. Still killing rhythm section!

  • Haha yeah I did, but hey, it just proves that they are human =)

  • i think nobody in the audience understand the music

  • Fuckin Great! And it SWINGS like a mutha...

  • Well I see Nancy, & the Bushes there in the front row, I guess Ronny Reagan was to busy murdering nuns and making arms deals with Saddam Hussein to make it to the Gillespie show in his living room. Cool to see Corea and Getz reunited

  • @jaikwillis and let's not forget he was also busy not paying any attention whatsoever to the AIDS epidemic as it was in it's early stages.

  • @jaikwillis What a dumb comment !!!!

  • man, this killin'...

  • Hahahaha, at the white house? Look at the audience. pff!

  • What a great line-up, thanks a lot for uploading this dude.

  • When was this recorded? I guess around 1980...

  • December 4th 1982.

  • Just so beautiful.

    Thanks Marla
