This is a lot different than when I took my Basic Training at Lackland from Sept. to Dec. in 1950. We had wooden barracks that had cracks in the walls and in the wood floors. We froze our butts off on those cold nights. Tried to stuff paper & rags in cracks. Didn't work too good. Ever try scrubbing wood floors? No fun! I'm now 82 years old but I look back and consider those times as "Good ol days". Proud to have served!

Beds are still the same. Dorm and wall lockers are different, and fatigues are long gone...but the spirit of the last couple of days still feels the same. If we'd have had video camera's back then, I'm sure this is exactly what the scene would look like. I remember when I was there and felt the same thing. In 20 years, some of these guys will be in charge of our Air Force....All Chiefs were AB's at some point!

@encyluv It varies from person to person actually, I couldn't stand getting yelled at till week 7, ya back when it was 6 weeks, I got recycled cause I couldn't fold my underwear properly! lameness! But it's cool I was recycled into a better flight, a co-ed flight with girls, which is nice :)

@blumac81 No kidding, they must have changed that. I went through basic in 1999, most of the flights were all male, but some had females in them, on occasion we'd even have lessons in their dayroom, their place always smelt nice (or at least better than the guy's dorm lol)

Here's my BMT moment from back in the day when I first joined....

Clost to the end of training one night I was in the "latrine" in one of the stalls and this guy comes in and uses the sink, he swears about something, I tell him to watch his language, he says "shut up" so I say "Hey tone it down alright." Said guy kicks in the other stall door and some poor guy just sittin there, then comes over to me and it turns out it was my TI who I told to watch his mouth...

Just be glad they didn't send you to Whiteman, now this place sucks.
