Man, do I love that guitar! My girlfriend's grandfather owns that exact same guitar and he actually let me play it. I felt like I wasn't worthy enough to play it. It's such a beautiful guitar with a beautiful sound to match. You definitely gave this guitar justice, my friend:)
I had 1 in the 80's, I loved the way it looked and the neck was good, the fine tuners on the bridge were a pain in the ass and it weighed a ton, after a while the neck pickup sort of went microphonic, I always strugled with it - it wasn't well behaved, on the other hand I bought a squire 50's classic vibe tele and it plays like a bastard right out of the cardboard box, I miss it now but I made £1500 on top of what I paid when it went,,,
Matt, did you not find the fretboard a little flat for bending, and sharp at the edges? I had one of these, but couldn't get on with it. '79, or thereabouts, was not a good era for Gibson, and I 'outed' it through Andys. Having said that the pickups had huge output, so it was about the fattest sound I have had. Nice fluid playing. Cheers.
Out of your price range!!! Are you kidding me, you play like a pro dude, get out there and gig a little for it, I mean $200 ain't that much! And you sound so damn good with it too!
don't you just love the feel. i have a few 78's. huge difference compared to current gibson's. i think they're the best gibson ever made. you can't re-issue them because you would need the woods they had in 77-78. even though there are great handwound pickups today, these artisans had unreal pickups. post more stuff--sounded good
@mattchurchill2 how much does an artisan cost? i know the model was discontinued sometime in the early 80's but how much would one in good condition cost?
An ex guitar tutor of mine had an Artisan and was selling it and wanted something like £1800-£2000 for it but offered it me for £1500 because he wanted the money for a PRS.
I didn't buy it and I regret that now. It was in black with gold hardware, 3 pick ups, flower petal fretboard inlays and ''Gibson acoustic'' headstock inlays.
I regret not buying DB's artisian back in '80.... could have paid 400 for it

Cheers Zed. I'm thinking about picking up the old acoustic for a while. A change is as good as a rest as they say!
