good video, here in canada we cant get any type of "Military" style rifle, but SKS's are cheap as hell. 189 for a unissued mil-spec (chinese) sks. 150 bucks for a refurbished russian sks. 7.62x39 is plentiful and cheap around 200 bucks for 1500 rnds. Accessories are few, but we just have to deal with it. We dont have a chinese weapon ban here, so with the flood of cheap chinese guns, it drives prices down. CHicom ar-15 for 600 bucks. (need restricted license)

The SKS has increased a bit in price over the years, however it can still be had for a relatively low price. If you don't have a lot of money to work with, the Mosin Nagant series of rifles and carbines will work. They may be bolt actions and they might not hold lots of ammo, but they are cheap, plentiful, powerful, and accurate old warhorses. They are also very simple, rugged and easy to use and maintain. No weapon is obsolete as long as it is functional and can put an enemy down.

I prefer a bolt action rifle with a scope, for reliability . You could not shoot it out against military units even with a full automatic rifle. I would rather engage them at longest distance as possible, take one accurate shot and retreat . Civilian militia cannot win in a head on fight against better armed government forces.

It's not the weapon, it's the USER. If one knows what he's doing the SKS will serve you well and it's better than NOTHING ! You'll have plenty of time to load stripper clips in an urban setting. The SKS system is going to make you fight different and use better judgement (hopefully) as compared to one carrying an AR/AK thus making you a better opponent. For some not all.

The weapon is good for what it is. Wouldn't be my first choice but will allow you to obtain a better rifle from some one else. The stripper clips are the way to go. The aftermarket magazines are crap. They take a bit of time to load, they are hard to carry on any available LBE systems with that 'thing' that protrudes off the magazine. Pocket carry shouldn't be your first method of carry for extra ammo.

I like Mark's videos a lot, but I think his SKS loading 'system' is extremely outdated. Forget the stripper clips except as a last resort; pop in a 40 round mag instead. In a modern urban warfare setting, the bullets are going to be flying and you don't have time for stripper clip systems.

Surplus ammunition is very rare now. Modern product, steel cased from Russia marketed as BrownBear and SilverBear costs .18-21cents per round. So about 200 dollars for a case of 1000 rounds.

A Yugoslavian SKS 59/66 is about 200-330 now days.

The M44 is probably the most cost effective rifle now. With ammunition cheaper too. M44 is 90 bucks.

Pricing for the rifle and ammo is outdated. SKS rifles are now about 150-250 depending, and 7.62x39 ammo is significantly higher than mentioned. About $200 per 1000 rounds.
