It is pretty ridiculous to say that Communist leaders didn't get out of hand in the last century. Everyone knows most of the big ones were just totalitarian despots.

A sane person would recognize that they were evil, and perhaps suggest that Communism would work well with reasonable leaders.

I did read the article just now. Communist countries DO have an atrocious human rights record, and the article doesn't change it. Lots of people did starve to death in the Ukraine. During the Cold War, in Western countries, nobody would really flee. Blacks were not running out of apartheid South Africa for example. If you look at communist countries it was totally different. Hundreds of thousands in Cuba and East Germany were risking their lives to get out from oppression.
