That is a beautiful car. I've always loved these cars since I first saw them. This one, I think should be considered a "mantle piece" car. A car that should go to either a collector or someone that knows these are rare. It' would be a pitty to see it messed up in any way.
Beautiful underrated car, and great vid as usual! On a side note, didn't people used to get trapped in these cars? Something about the door latches not functioning properly in hot weather? Would not keep me from buying one to find out though haha
@DirtyStang69 Really? the 2010 honda civic si had a performance tuned 2 liter engine that had 197 horsepower, and made only 139 ft/lb of torque. a cobalts 2.2 makes more torque at a much lower rpm and its not even performance tuned. THe JAPS cant make an engine with decent torque. in the 1st place why are you comparing new engines with 20 year old engines, weres the logic in that? The japs cant even get 150hp out of a 1.8, the 2011 corollas can barely sqeeze out 128, while civic only make 140hp.
@kirbyswarp what are you talking about? the Japs cars are better than the imported ones you and i get, for example, Honda Civic type-R over here has a 2.0 16v dohc engine developing 197bhp with a 0-60 time of around 6.5 seconds but in their own country, that same engine is made to develop 240bhp with the 0-60 nearer just 6 seconds with no turbos! And again, the Toyota 1.8 16v Dohc VVT engine makes 189bhp normally aspirated, its the same engine used in some Celicas and the famous Lotus Elise.
Few things I noticed, first and formost the abs disabled message is on and the brake light is on, most likley a bad master cilinder (over $1,500) also the master cyl in that car has allready been replaced (the with sticker on the master) also sevrel light buls out but no message on dic (bad bcm?) Front bumper and wheels is off a 93 allante. I wouldn't tuch this one with a 10 foot pole. (I love these cars, I own 2 of them) exhaust is not stock
@abweiss I almost bought one of these (and a Reatta) a few years ago, problem with both cars is they used mostly specialty parts (and other electronic do-dads) which are difficult to replace. The Reatta had a little 4in CRT touch screen for its trip computer looked similar to Space Invaders, good luck replacing it.
Robin Williams starred in Cadillac Man to showcase the car at that time, someone just now on YT argues this was not the most expensive Cadillac and that all of them had Northstars, I believe of course, that is entirely incorrect. I do wish to check my info since it's been some time. What say you? Only the 4.5 V8 or 4.9 V8 I believe, in these, and the 93 model was Northstar equipped
@gwuengr2 Same Transverse V8 for the 1988 Sedan Devilles, only they didn't have the nice "plenum" for higher performance. But 1985 was the 4.5 V8, the weaker one for sure, but still the World's First and only TV V8!!
@MetallicBill Not to be outdone, the 96-00 Ford Taurus S.H.O. and 1994-2001 Lincoln Continental have a transverse 4.6 V8. They have equal length drive-shafts so they don't torque steer too bad.
@vpole Ah, cool. I heard of one with TWO NORTHSTARS, an Eldorado that was custom built, I just read about it in passing, so I don't have a reference currently, They tried Supercharging the engine at the time IIRC
@supercarsunleashed no, General Motors/Cadillac never partnered up with Maserati. You're thinking of the small Chrysler 2-seater of the early 1990s. The badging indicates that Cadillac partnered up with Pininfarina to build the Cadillac Allante, as they did with the Cadillac Eldorado Brougham of the late 1950s.
@JMMoosey Yep, Pini were big big fans of Cadillac, they forward for the book on Eldorado was done by Pininfarina, and the Coach builders of the day all inspired Cadillac Design Studios / GM as well
its funny how most critics bashed this car somewat because of all the buttons and the gauge clusters...but now buttons are everywhere in new cars today and much more complex..just ironic....
In GTA IV, the Albany Primo retains its four-door sedan design, but is influenced heavily by the 1987–1993 Cadillac Allante but has a four door sedan design most likely from a 90s/80s GM A-body, like the 1989-1996 Buick Century. The top of the trunk lid seems loosely inspired by 1992-2004 Cadillac Sevilles
Interesting car.I worked for an individual that set his up for racing. He had lowered it using some Eibach springs and mounted some 18" on it. He then raced it at Limerock in CT. It was red with a white top. One of the better looking Allante's I had seen.
Thank you so much, Kyle. Very nice video. Beatiful rare car, a real rare find. I am a big Cadillac fan and I love the variety on your channel. As always, two thumbs way high.
love LOVE allante's. Motorweek used those guages in their intro for years. The story behind the Allante is amazing, flying the bodies from Italy to detroit to marry them w/ the chassis vertically w/i a boeing 747 was an expensive and probably the longest assembly line ever!!
@bajabusta Saw a book covering that, with photo, a comment I just got contests the fact these were the top Cadillac and most expensive, but worse, the guy says they all had Northstar engines. That simply is NOT true
@saabkyle04 The water dripping had me worried, I'm not an expert, but often you can get signs of a car's health right from the exhaust gases. I just replaced my full tailpipe, it was not cheap. The muffler there is starting to rust. As well, the trunk pull down mech is common to many GM cars I believe, My Firebird also has one
I heard there was comment conflict going on here! It was a pretty cool car, although RWD and a sort of flop like the Chrysler TC by Maserati. Very nice car, thanks for finding this car and doing a vid on it!
Boooo to no door or seatbelt chime:( The chimes on the hazards though were unusually nice so maybe thats how it originally sounded on the door and seatbelt.
