I can't understand why we all love and remember this cartoon, when it was so bad. Good premise, horrible execution, but i do remember I liked the characters a lot.
Gah !!! I need to get one of those, i just bought a crappy version at the dreaded wal-mart for 5 bucks for 9 episodes !!! I was robbed !!! Thanks for posting man !!
@Zaranyzerak thats alright.. i just say coz of the way it is so perfectly sorted.. and sometimes i m rude w/ my jokes.. even to myself, and forget i can ofend sometimes.. no ofense :D
I think yoiu said on one set didn;t have some episodes on it our some special features. I've watched this one before but It was several months back I believe. Nice video. I can;t make videos this good for all the bones in texas to quote hank the cow dog.

I am partial to the UK version. Because of the interview with Michael Reaves. Well, specifically, where it is intermixed with a interview with me on the 4th disk. :) But, the version I got has a hard case, not a soft one.
Actually, the UK set used to have a much fancier box. It was bigger and had a velcro latch and the cover folded outward with the dvd's stored in some chest looking thing. I don't have it but I remember it. That's why it's dropped to like £7, cheaper box. It shad the same dodgy artwork though.
Slightly off-topic but you remind me of 2 of my favourite people; you look like John Hughes (the director), and you have the mannerisms of John Candy (the actor); sadly they're no longer with us but I thought I'd just share that :)
oh yeah we can go up onto the bridge and I'll toss you headfirst straight into fucking sailor dive, and then I'll join you later down in the water and i'll rub seaweed all over your ass and neck and shit. oooooohhhh were gunna have a good time!!!!!!!
Interesting how the first two have 'Fox Kids' on them, which I used to watch sometimes like 10 years ago, and the next two have 'Jetix' on them, which is like the current generation's equivalent of the same.
Man, it's been so long since I've seen the 'Fox Kids'-logo.
I never watched 'Dungeons & Dragons', I don't think it even showed here.
But there was a bunch of cartoons I loved to watch.
Also on channels like 'Cartoon Network', which we now have to pay for.
And also 'Nickelodeon' has or had some good ones.
Only the German plague of doing voice-overs has come to The Netherlands, so cartoons I used to watch in the original English are now in terrible Dutch... :(
here in england something that says crap is still rated U no matter how many times. Oh yeah and that category thing has gone from our dvds now but the eg. PG description now says why its rated that
Our film certification methods in the UK are as tight as the Dolphin's proverbial lol. I don't know quite how widespread it is, but don't DVD players have a certain factory code that you can input to make them multi-region? I bought the Original Twilight Zones a while back from the US (couldn't get them anywhere here at the time) and had to input a code to watch 'em.
Another epic video! ANY idea if your gonna do another DVD collection overview? No pressure...just wondering. I loved seeing your taste in movies and tv shows.
One more thing I want to mention is that you mentioned that the UKset was PAL, but not that it was in Region 2, though you did mention needing a multi region player which I guess is something. :)
even here in oz they give a pg to the mildest langauge.. which i find dumb and pointless unless your prude of some kind.. so stupid how they need to warn of the mildest things.. pfft UK and Aust 'consumer advice' and reasoning of a rating in general
dayum shawn, i dont log in to youtube for a few months and u lose weight and get more hair wtf is the world comming to lol great video btw i love the dungeons and dragons i have both sets myself and i always enjoy watching them, keep up the good work my friend
IT'S A CONSPIRACY! Somebodies trying to destroy Canada with the cold! And they're trying to destroy America with infecting our water with pollution and waste! I'm not joking, my shower was slimy a couple days ago!
I was scared to leave this comment but Sean is a good friend so I highly doubt he'll try to revoke my nerd card hehe. Sadly D&D is one of the few big cartoons I've never seen so I thank you buddy for this episode as I now know the right way to see it when I'm able to pick it up someday!
This is just like the North American release of Mobile Suit Gundam Z (or Zeta Gundam). Both the fantastic intro and closing credits score from the Japanese release were replaced with different score due to stupid rights reasons.
I like the UK release better in terms of content from the original music to the Fan commentaries. Nowadays I think fans know more about their 80s cartoons than the creators plus fans always has more energetic conversations.
I also havean alternative case for the set. It's solidcardboard (more solid then your version) with repeted artwork and a velcro tab on it.I actually ws tempte to send youthat one wih the new disks I brought, but wasen't sure at first.
@David315842 Sorry I forgot to say great comparison review. Sorry to hear yo got badgered by many fans demanded a review, whoops. I didn't know you had such a fasination with BBFC certificate though. :D
YAY you got my numbers right! In future though just say David Monid it will be a lot easier. :D In the UK we have strict laws about certificates since 1985, EVERYTHING released on video, DVD, Blu-ray etc. must have a certificate (video games didn't need to, until recent games like Mortal Kmbat made it nessercery), the boxes though aren't used anymore and a review of the content is now given beside the certficate nowadays.
I had the UK release, i watched it and then sold it. Was a good walk downmemory lane but its entertaibment value has aged not as well as I had hoped. Still quite god but didnt think id rewatch too much,
I have the UK version, but it's not the same version as yours. Instead of a flimsy cardboard case mine is made of sturdy cardboard that opens like a book.
On a related note I just bought the UK release of Voltron Collection 1, which comes in a metal case similar to the US release. But to my horror it contains the UNrestored version of the cartoon! I guess the US release is far superior in that particular case.
Funnily enough I have that sam cardboard as w ith the velcro tab on it. I ws gong to send that to Sean but I was concerned about breaking the new celaphane pakaging on the set I just brought for him. I guess the reaso why it went downn price was because they now used even cheaper cardboard for the case.
No that's correct as Disney held the rights to this show for a preoid of time. I'm guessing they still do, since it was produced by Marvel Productions.
You would get a movie that would have been originally rated either a PG or a 12 at the cinema, but then the certificates would have to be upgraded to a 15 due to strong language in either commentaries or extras.
They don't bother with that violence, sex, other box anymore, they just have the certificate and a small explanation as to why it was certified with that rating at the side.
Yeah, there were some familiar elements (such as a ot of the monsters they encounter, the fact that it's a party of several characters, each with different abilities, etc.), but I think it's safe to say fans of the game wanted a darker, grittier, more EPIC adaptation akin to the kinds of stories in the games and novels. I think we're still waiting for a definitive movie/series adaptation...all of them seem to have been lacking in some way. But that said, I still like the cartoon plenty. :D
@Zaranyzerak Yeah it shown elements of an RPG esque enviroment, but it didn't show much resemblence to the actual RPG, but it ws still a great caroon nontheless, Toei FTW!
very little, the show is based on the game and while some monsters and class specific rules are present in the series, it probably wouldnt be enough to show you the proper use of said rules or the games alignment system.
I use to watch this show on Saturday morning and planned on getting the full US set as its as cheap as pie but its great to hear of the other version-thanks.
Yeah, I think I'm going to have to do a video about the Mill Creek re-releases to clear up some of the confusion. There's a couple more coming out soon - The Legend of Prince Valiant and Defenders of the Earth, and while they are VERY affordable (about 25 dollars for the complete 65-episode runs of both), they seem to be barebones once again. Their He-Man 2002 set carried over a few extras, but I think that's the only one.
@Zaranyzerak Thats not a bad thing. At least for those people who can't afford to go trolling the back end of the interwebs*cough*unlikeuslosers*cough* Then this presents a cost effective way for people to pick up those shows. I am a bit disappointed that they're still gonna be double sided disscs. I'm sure if they had been single sided that YOU would have picked them up just so you could watch the eps without risking the BCI discs.Infact...ya know what i mean..Its kinda hard to replace them..
