  • Love that little axe. Perfect to baton with and much more efficient. Also great de limber. My wilderness kit consists of that my Sven saw and my mora clipper

  • Lovely axe and job. I wish I had some wilkinsons sword kit.

  • @awesomeassasson1000 the Internet is full of two types , those who know and nerds . Malcolm is giving a good demo on how to sharpen a little hatchet , all his demos are good and it's the best channel on you tube . My father always told me that the best way to judge your success is by the amount of sarcasm and envy around you!

  • ow wow that axe is so good it can cut polystyrine

  • That's the best and only way to sharpen axe.

  • i bet he shaves with an axe.

  • Good job!

Check out my ax after using a 3000 grid waterstone!

  • lmao 1:08 but nice and sharp!

  • That is a nice tool i must get one. Thanks for vid.

  • haha you have a little axe teehee

  • Excellent video. Sharp axe!

  • Is the light colored side of the stone the smooth side? I inherited a light gray on one side and a dark on the other in a wooden box with no directions. And is there a way to determine if you use oil or water with it? A little help please.

  • Fiskars told me that this axe is developed and manufactured "made in Finland,Billnäs".They also made these for wilkinson Sword brand

  • Right now Fiskars makes them. Could you please measure it's total lenght? Is it the X5 model (223mm or so)

  • WTF? copy of fiskars....

  • @harri685 nope a original wilkinson sword before fiskars bought them out i suppose

  • @johnjayrambo11111 My guess is that Fiskars makes them on comission for Wilkinson Sword, like they do for Gerber, but I might be wrong :)

  • @harri685

Youtuber ColinOutdoors has some videos of a Fiskars hatchet that originally had that Wilkinson Sword brand on it. In one of the videos he shows where the markings used to be but have worn away because he got the hatchet used from a family member. On the black part that wraps around the head, it still has the "Fiskars Finland" imprint.

  • Fiskars axe!! the best

  • that looks like a short Fiskar axe,but it has Wilinson on it.I'm looking for a short Axe like that.does that size you got there chop well?because I'd rather take a smaller axe with me to cut some thick branches than a large axe.and that size looks really good for in the rucksack

  • It's easier to sharpen that axe because of it's straight edge. Mine is curved for throwing. It takes a bit longer. Nicely done.

  • Were you in the Russian Mob?

  • what is that

  • how many chins have those knuckles been in :D

  • it's 1 am, why am i watching videos on sharpening axes? fuck sake

  • @TristanDesnos I used to ask myself the same thing.

  • so that's how you sharpen an axe! always wondered XD

  • Do the knuckles say "True Brit" or "True Grit"? Or "True Brat"?

  • is it better to use the stone wet and alsowhat is the darker side of the stone used for?

  • what stone are you using? autosol on strop?

  • Don't you mean, "sharping my giant razor blade"

  • Convex grinds are best for axes, unless it's for flesh.

    0.o

  • A cool sharpy thingy nice !

  • why wilkinson...?

  • What kind of stone was that? Did he cut at an angle and how much? What was the other thing he did? No help at all. Thanks.

  • Can't tell ya what kind of stone it was except that it was probably a water stone. The second thing he did was strop it which removes the burl on the edge and makes it more consistant.

  • wtf

  • What was the last thing the axe was rubbed against before shaving the paper?

  • It's called Stropping. Basically you rub the axe bit against leather to remove microscopic metal burr from the edge. This makes it extremely sharp.

  • Cool, thank you very much.

  • a leather strop

  • lol impressive

  • cool tattoo

  • Gillette just lost another customer (because he shaves with that axe)

  • i dont know, why there is "wilkinson-sword" on it..!?

  • FISKARS(c) POWER!!!

  • dude wtf is with those Tattoos where you in jail or something

  • you just reminded me that i have to sharpen my hatchet and axe :(

  • HAHAHA thats how i roll man! HEY IF YOUR AXE ISNT SHAVIN IT MITE AS WELL BE A HAMMER! NICE VID! YOU EVEN BROKE OUT THE STROP!

  • you must put your stone into water dude !!!

  • A +

  • Pretty sure this guy isnt using it for woodland excursions...

  • no he just uses it to make bows and arrows...

  • total preference and what steel your hatchet is made out of

  • paper dulls the blade

  • sharp axe!

  • Why do you wipe the blade off on your jumper?

  • because it has the stone residue on it

  • can i use water on my oil stone! im sharpening an axe..

  • If its a water stone yes. But what he has in the video is an OIL stone. Use a light oil. Such has baby oil or motorcycle oil.

  • Thats not a oil stone, it's actually a aluminum oxide stone which can be used with or without any lube.

  • @Aqualiteking yea

  • @Aqualiteking i have the same stone and can i use it without water just dry like that ??

  • @milotist Which ever way you want. Though I reconmend using water as it helps to stop metal particles form clogging the pores of the stone and decrases the time spent sharpening.

  • If you already have used oil on your oil stone, no. If you havent yes.

  • Hey Malc, give a shave with the ax!

  • What are the names of the tools you used to sharpen that and were can I get them

  • whetstones and honing oil.

  • Wow I didnt even know it was possible to get an axe that sharp. You have inspired me Im gonna go give it a try.

    Cheers for the tips Malc.

  • hey malc. it looks like we have similar stones. do you use oil or water?

  • at first i used oil but now i only use water

  • well john do you remember when i told you i was going to try to shave with my ax.........well it didnt work out so well ...lets just say there was just alot of riping :)

  • @johnjayrambo11111 i only use water now to i think its way better than oil

  • thanks malc. i just got an axe just like that right after christmas and went out and got a sharpening stone yesterday for the freeman knife. i'll try it on the axe too. do you just match the existing bevel?

    steve

    malc

  • great vid 5/5, wow that looks sharp.

  • thanks shaun

  • Its the razor strop that gives it that edge you that you can shave with. (The 2nd sharpener, S-t-r-O-p, spelled correctly)

Awesome video. I was wondering if a strop could be used of items other than shaving implements.

  • nice little axe, whats the make, did it come with a good ground edge or have you worked on it?

  • oh i see its a wilks

  • hey grimbo it was pretty razor sharp when i first got it but it,d got very dull , its say wilkinson sword on the handle but near the blade it says fiskars ,finland

  • how much was it?did it come with a sheath?and whats the weight?thanks.

  • hey grimbo it was about £25 from homebase it had a hard square plastic clip in sheath and it weighs 1 1/2 lb i think

  • Making a bow has been a bit of an ambition of mine for a while now, but it seems like a bit of a black art - you definitely make it look far too easy! :)

I've never found the right type of wood, despite having one eye on the trees while out roaming about.

  • you just need to practice , practice ,practice .

  • Cheers mate, I'll get on it. Keep the vids coming!

  • Good video buddy. I have one of those wee hatchets and think its great. I had a hard time seeing its usefulness originaly, but have found it great for roughing out carving projects, and preparing kindling and firewood for small burns.

  • thanks millbillyuk , i use mine alot for making bows , its perfect for that .

    malc.
