I play the real drums, and I play semi competitively (on leaderboards) in rock band. I think that it is really difficult to be good at these games without prior musical knowledge. I first learned the clarinet, and I kicked ass at it. As a result, I kick ass at rock band.

there are MAJOR differences. GH is all about SP pathing made by following fourmulas not just hitting notes. Guitarherophenom isn't even in the top 20 for guitar career on GH3 but has a FGFC. but UKOG is 1st place GH3 guitar career..... yep he follows SP paths.
As someone that can both play guitar well and play Guitar Hero on expert, I don't have a problem with people that simply play GH. I think that playing GH is fun, empowering, almost. With such a limited budget, it's nearly impossible to get a good Metallica or Pantera tone. However, the one thing that GH cannot provide is creation. There's no expression, no personality. Some people are totally okay with this, but some people aren't writers. I love GH, but I love my Ibanez more.

Guitar Hero was one of the reasons I started playing a real guitar and got into music. Today music basicly is my life as I spend anywhere from 1 to 10 hours each day writing songs and playing guitar, bass, piano and practice my singing.

Personally I dont give. play rock band 1/2 and i like it i mean its fun. I get drum lessons. My brother is also a drummer and sucks at playing rock band. Guitar hero is just a game. A really cool game. Hoever came up with it was a great guy. But people who hate on other people telling them to play a real guitar "my brother" Are just a bunch of jerks who need to be ignored. The're really just trying to get attention. Just because they know how to play a guitar. "SOME OF US DONT HAVE SUCH SKILLS"

I play guitar hero AND real guitar
guitar hero is actually harder sometimes because real guitar is more merciful as far as making mistakes.
I love them both, for different reasons.

i play guitar hero (rock band too) and i play with 3 fingers (i dont play with my pinky) i play on hard usually but i also can play on expert i play piano too so that helps my fingers to strech idk why i dont use 4 fingers i dont need to but i love guitar hero and I HATE CROCS

I have no problem with Guitar Hero, but when people who play Guitar Hero try to tell me info. about real guitar, (the instrument I've played for five years!), it annoys me. I've been playing guitar for pretty much my whole life! I know a lot more about guitar then "Guitar Heros."

SO to prove how wrong they were I challenged them to a guitar duel...a real guitar duel I mean >_> They thought that they would be able to play real guitar just as well as they can play a fake plastic guitar. like the skill would just float into their hands from the game console and possess them..
well.. this didnt happen :/
They cant play anything! :@ So I guess my point is, playing guitar hero doesnt make you good at real guitar, and that not all people realize it's just a game :/

you say "Those who play guitar hero realize they aren't playing real guitar." I find this in my life experiences to not be 100% fact :l
now, I play both Guitar Hero and real guitar, and have been playing real guitar for about 3 years...
alot of my friends play guitar hero and are very good at it, and think they can actually play real guitar because theyre good at GH...

Personally I dont give. play rock band 1/2 and i like it i mean its fun. I get drum lessons. My brother is also a drummer and sucks at playing rock band. My brothers guitarist is amazing at playing guitar and was actually sponsored by first act. Anyway he sucks at playing guitar hero. I get drum lessons and i'm good at playing rock band on expert. Video games are a way to get rid of bordem. Alot of people like simulation as dan said and some people don't.
