idk why anyone would be against the song if its religious. dont listen to them if you against the christian/god songs. its a good sounding song even if you dont pay attention to the lyrics. enjoy the music people :)
i really wish people would stop bitching about the religious meaning of the song. its a great song that obviously has christian meaning and thats coming from an atheist. just because somebody has a different perspective doesnt give you the right to be a jackass, grow the fuck up.
@Edenfire. if you look at an interview, you see that the lead singer is a Christian and so thats why the lyrics point out scriptural sayings. True it may not be directly Chrsitian, but its still based on Christian stuff. I still love you, come play some Halo Reach with me. LOLOL
But let's be honest with ourselves; Thrice is a far better band.
I like Skillet's music more, just because I don't like screaming at all. But as a band (i.e. Instrumentals, Lyrics, creativity, etc.) Thrice is way better. Which is okay because Thrice is one of the best in the business
its a song about not taking things for granted and being consumed in everything you own and your money cause you dont live forever so give love to people something money cant buy. do u agree
One thing that can be said about Thrice is they never make the same album twice. They're all good and unique in their own way and all awesome, although I do perfer the AITA, and identity crisis overall
Plato: material reality is an imitation of the divine ideological realm, and thus art, which imitates the material reality, is "thrice" removed from One - the mind of creation and true existence.

if no one knows what this songs is ACTUALLY about then they haven't bought the deluxe version of Vheissu or read the amazing series of Frank Herbert's Dune.
the song refers to the boy who became a god on the sand planet Arrakis, and could see the past and the future all in one. When he reluctantly ruled the universe, he decided to save the future of humanity by renouncing his godly title.
in the third book, he returns in disguise as the 'Preacher' warning the people "sand will cover you"
@ericfarley0 "put your faith in more than steel". They are obviously telling people to invest in a wide variety of renewable resources for their portfolios.
@Elkhartboy It was, however that doesn't make it necessarily about God... Unlike most people, they don't tell us that the lyrics in any of the song are meant to be religious, I'm not saying they aren't but they usually put it with a 2nd meaning so that if you're not a religious person... you still choose the right ways. At least that's what I think.
@charger619c true, i also recently found out that the chorus lyrics "dont store your treasures up, with moth and rust, where thieves break in and steal" is a reference to the bible....blew my mind
@charger619c I truly hope that you dont seriously think that that is all this song has to say, and if you do, I hope that you soon come to realize that the lyrics of this song has a meaning that is infinitely more vast than your frankly naive interpretation
@charger619c Nope. All unrelated insults aside though, I suppose I should apologize for making such a fuss. Its pretty obvious that you were joking. Also, songs mean different things depending on the person who here's them, so only the artist can truly say what it means, and even that is only in their own perspective.
@charger619c don't store your treasures up with moth and rust where thieves break in and steal is actually right out of a christian bible matthew 6:19
ahahahahahah skillet.... they don't even belong in the same subject as thrice... thrice dominates them in every aspect... much like any other band u put up against thrice..
@CoandCaSSTB People can interpret songs however like like, however they see or interpret the song to them is based on how they comprehend it. So dont try to force people to think the way you do, let them take it in the way they want. If Dustin wanted to be a preacher he would be. Plus everyone knows Dustin uses biblical inspiration for his lyrics, that still doesnt mean people are subjected to religion.
@Mon5terMash0 yeah i agree with you, i wasnt saying that to try and convince people to understand something a certain way. It's just very interesting to me how often i'll hear a passage read and i've heard the words in a thrice song already.
Yes people may.. but most of Dustin's songs are very specific... even speaking with him, he knows his own songs are "heady"--his word. He takes many of his influences from CS Lewis and lately after he recommended it to me--the "Orthodoxy" by GK Chesterton--a man who influenced Lewis.
This song is about the twin towers falling, with scripture references to realize that God will destroy EVERYTHING... don't take pride in what man has built--it will fall... store treasure in heaven.
just about every word refers to Frank Herbert's Children of Dune book. he even says in the songs meanings interview about Vheissu that this is the main idea of the song. literally to the point of repeating lines from the book like "sand will cover them (sand will cover this place)... sand will cover you"
@droptozro Yes I agree these phrases originate from the Bible.. the song still strongly refers to Dune, yet Dune itself is a sci-fi commentary on religion and humanity in the future, like a tongue-in-cheek reference to modern christianity.. so we are pretty much both right, seeing as how it blends both
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.~Mathew 6:19&20

this song is in reference to Christ's words about how all will one day be under sand, God will shake the foundation of the world and only the truly foundational people will still stand... and it will not be buildings, steel, money, cars, etc... you will not be able to hide.

lol god...he sir is not real, neither is jesus so burnnnnnnnnn you suck, and if he was, the jews killed him (fail) also its not about god you idiot, this isn christian rock, and this is mainstream music you cunt, read the record label name, they played this on much music the first time i heard it, have fun being emotional over a song and god, oh god and yeah the world works on money, so yeah, enjoy your life of religion, hope that provides you with a home and food, raptor jesus?
@J88P lol.. your ignorance is aboundingly hilarious.
you obviously do not know Thrice, know about Dustin, his lyrics or anything about mainstream music. ad hominem attack with name-calling? childish much? why dont you do yourself a favor and go read a book? k? it might help your intellect BEGIN to understand the genius that is behind the lyrics of this band and the power of God... almost EVERY single one of Thrice's songs has a reference to Christ, God, or the Bible.
Truer words were never spoken. If there is any music out there that actually has some substance/messages that all people should listen to, it's Thrice. Dustin Kensrue is a lyrical/musical genius and also a very nice guy I might add, I met him and the rest of the band this summer on Warped Tour. Really humble guys.
@J88P dude dude dude... seriously, I'm completely atheist but, damn your arguments suck =P the world doesn't work on money, the people work on surviving and having a nice life in the process... And music can help with that, whether it's christian rock like Thrice or mainstream or whatever... And talking shit about Jesus can be funny but at least try making it satirical and not sound like a douche xD
@J88P ... dude.... im not a christian, but you are a closed minded fool blundering aimlessly through a dark world. you need to grow up. stick the splintered end of your opinion up your dungfunnel and sit on it because no one benefits from hearing ignorance such as yours. +20 man points and a level up to nosf666, because he just pwned you.
@Nosf666 your a fucking idiot bud, the world works on people surviving, look at africa bud, or any third world country you think its for lack of trying to survive that hey are failing, pretty sure every day they fight for their life, money is how we survive, not the act of trying to
@J88P Congratulations, you just missed the whole point =P
Money is the thing that gets us the things that we need to survive, but that's only because we defined it that way. Not the ACT of trying to survive is important but a fair social way of treating people for what they can do and for what they do. The people in Africa don't give a fuck if they get money to buy food or get food, because in the end they get food, and that is what I meant, that money is a tool and not the goal,
@J88P You are very blind. I personally don't believe in Christianity. I'm agnostic, I'm a very open-minded person. You blatantly saying "lolgodisfake" is completely ridiculous. There's no proof that god is real, yes, but there's also no proof he isn't. There's also no proof of whether or not the Greek Gods are real- but it's still possible they are. Just denying religion without anything to back you up is moronic and idiotic. Any religion could be true, kid. Any of 'em.
@MechaPedobear dirty emo kid, look at all the responces i got, damn, lol greek gods, I do have proof, its called science, the bible says man has been around for what? 4000 years, hmmmm, heres my proof, look it up, "isle of man" 9000 year old straw house, hmm pretty sure i just dropped the bible, people just hate being wrong, also, look at africa, is it really just about surviving, look at north america, are we just surviving, its have and have nots, the haves survive, the have nots die
@J88P im not a religous man but damn man you are ignorant. You really want to boil down something as complicated as the human race to "have and have nots"? If you want to consider yourself an animal do it, but dont be so quick to judge someone who holds themselves to a higher set of values and morals. And mind you this is coming from someone who does not believe in a god, but rather the greatness and progression of man.
This song is about how your "treasures" should be things that last, like love, rather than material objects. It's from a Bible verse that says "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven . . . for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
im sure it's open to interpretation, but i always thought of it in a biblical sense. It's a common theme in the bible, that everything in this world is temporal in nature, thus you're better off living a life that solidifies a better existence in the next life (an eternal life), than focusing on the provisional life on earth.
While I agree that Skillet is a decent band, I gotta' say that Thrice is even better. Skillet has a lot going for them, but the sheer scope and execution of Thrice is unequaled for our day. Skillet's good, but Thrice is epic.
the pic of the band at 2 mins 38 sec, lol, I bet dustin isnt too proud of that haircut from back in the day hehe. Amazing song from the best band in the world
When I first heard this band I seriously disliked their style. Now more than two years later I look on them and realized how very talented they actually are. They just have a beautiful sound.

The people in Africa don't give a fuck if they get money to buy food or get food, because in the end they get food, and that is what I meant, that money is a tool and not the goal,

@Nosf666 completely agree with you unlike others who live in such a black and white world

@shadowsgate0 Thank you =)
I can't wait to see Thrice live in August by the way! =D

Any of 'em.

@MechaPedobear trying to talk logic on youtube is pointless. stop while you're ahead, friend ;)

@madak17 True. But ignorance does, at any time or place, bother me.
MechaPedobear 1 year ago
@MechaPedobear I agree completely, and i too am an agnostic. And that was a perfectly executed explanation
Immafishstick 1 year ago
@MechaPedobear dirty emo kid, look at all the responces i got, damn, lol greek gods, I do have proof, its called science, the bible says man has been around for what? 4000 years, hmmmm, heres my proof, look it up, "isle of man" 9000 year old straw house, hmm pretty sure i just dropped the bible, people just hate being wrong, also, look at africa, is it really just about surviving, look at north america, are we just surviving, its have and have nots, the haves survive, the have nots die
J88P 5 months ago
@J88P im not a religous man but damn man you are ignorant. You really want to boil down something as complicated as the human race to "have and have nots"? If you want to consider yourself an animal do it, but dont be so quick to judge someone who holds themselves to a higher set of values and morals. And mind you this is coming from someone who does not believe in a god, but rather the greatness and progression of man.

@J88P dont get mad because you cant see beauty in anything, what is life without music and art? it is nothingness no point in existing

what is the meaning of this song? I'd really like to know.
krybq2 2 years ago
This song is about how your "treasures" should be things that last, like love, rather than material objects. It's from a Bible verse that says "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven . . . for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
VerityDemortem 2 years ago
thank you! :]]
krybq2 2 years ago
im sure it's open to interpretation, but i always thought of it in a biblical sense.

@targetbarney Couldn't have said it any better.

@targetbarney How could you possibly compare the two? Skillet is shallow and completely dull. Thrice is imaginative and creative.

the ending is typical of thrice's talent to break up the heavy stuff and show a different style

When I first heard this band I seriously disliked their style. Now more than two years later I look on them and realized how very talented they actually are. They just have a beautiful sound.
