  • idk why anyone would be against the song if its religious. dont listen to them if you against the christian/god songs. its a good sounding song even if you dont pay attention to the lyrics. enjoy the music people :)

  • i really wish people would stop bitching about the religious meaning of the song. its a great song that obviously has christian meaning and thats coming from an atheist. just because somebody has a different perspective doesnt give you the right to be a jackass, grow the fuck up.

  • My favorite part: The image of Matt Damon, George Clooney, and Brad Pitt.

I even used an f'n Oxford Comma. So. Suck it.

  • Puto temazo JODER

  • I've always thought this band was cool, but this song made me love them!!

  • @Edenfire. if you look at an interview, you see that the lead singer is a Christian and so thats why the lyrics point out scriptural sayings. True it may not be directly Chrsitian, but its still based on Christian stuff. I still love you, come play some Halo Reach with me. LOLOL

  • I miss thiss.

  • @blinkboy

    @charger619c

    Nah, dude.

  • As much as I love this song, it will always bring me memories of someone I lost....

  • this is their best song

  • seriously who thinks that the Oceans 11 pics ruin this??!?! What a ridiculous statement. It's about the epicness of the song, christ

  • 3.24 - 4.51 = Eargasm!

  • Oh, We live in but a shadow of the real.... Such a great line.

  • nebody else notice the random Oceans 11 picture??

  • @Gallooch25

    hahahahah yeah....

  • One of my favorite songs is by Skillet.

But let's be honest with ourselves; Thrice is a far better band.

I like Skillet's music more, just because I don't like screaming at all. But as a band (i.e. Instrumentals, Lyrics, creativity, etc.) Thrice is way better. Which is okay because Thrice is one of the best in the business

  • the intro is epic. the whole song is epic!

  • cant wait to see these guys at bamboozle in april :D

  • I love Skillet and Thrice. How can you compare them both, lmao? They're completely different.

  • its a song about not taking things for granted and being consumed in everything you own and your money cause you dont live forever so give love to people something money cant buy. do u agree

  • skillet is bad.

  • at 1:30 or somethin there's a pic of george clooney, matt damon and brad pitt. it was random, but the song is amazing. Jesus Is Ftw!

  • why is there a picture of oceans on here, that ruined it im leaving

  • How the fuck have I never heard of them before?

    I am a failure of a metalhead.

  • Teppei is a god.

  • One thing that can be said about Thrice is they never make the same album twice. They're all good and unique in their own way and all awesome, although I do perfer the AITA, and identity crisis overall

  • 5 people have severe cases of whiplash, and therefore cannot headbang.

  • Art is, in other words, an imitation of life, which is already an imitation. And thus art is thrice from reality.

  • Thrice: "we live in but a shadow of the real"

Plato: material reality is an imitation of the divine ideological realm, and thus art, which imitates the material reality, is "thrice" removed from One - the mind of creation and true existence.

  • for where your treasure is there also your heart will be. store your treasures up with god where nothing can happen to them!

    =)

  • i like these guys and Muse. my two favorite bands..

  • @promathia1 Both are amazing live, I like your taste :D

  • @promathia1 Heck yeah. Me best two live bands out there, period.

  • if no one knows what this songs is ACTUALLY about then they haven't bought the deluxe version of Vheissu or read the amazing series of Frank Herbert's Dune.

the song refers to the boy who became a god on the sand planet Arrakis, and could see the past and the future all in one. When he reluctantly ruled the universe, he decided to save the future of humanity by renouncing his godly title.

in the third book, he returns in disguise as the 'Preacher' warning the people "sand will cover you"

  • @ericfarley0 "put your faith in more than steel". They are obviously telling people to invest in a wide variety of renewable resources for their portfolios.

  • @charger619c actually kind sir, its a reference to the scriptures in Matthew Chapter 6 in the Bible. its almost a direct quote.

  • @Elkhartboy It was, however that doesn't make it necessarily about God... Unlike most people, they don't tell us that the lyrics in any of the song are meant to be religious, I'm not saying they aren't but they usually put it with a 2nd meaning so that if you're not a religious person... you still choose the right ways. At least that's what I think.

  • @charger619c i heard that whole phrase was copied exactly from the bible... anybody can corroborate that?

  • @blinkboypunk Matthew 6:20

  • @thisisfun815 maaaan thank you VERY much, seriously.

  • Comment removed

  • @charger619c true, i also recently found out that the chorus lyrics "dont store your treasures up, with moth and rust, where thieves break in and steal" is a reference to the bible....blew my mind

  • @charger619c oh thats what he was saying. i always thought it was "put your faith in modern steel" lol

  • @charger619c obviously

  • @charger619c I truly hope that you dont seriously think that that is all this song has to say, and if you do, I hope that you soon come to realize that the lyrics of this song has a meaning that is infinitely more vast than your frankly naive interpretation

  • @Rydlii Are your parents brother and sister?

  • @charger619c Nope. All unrelated insults aside though, I suppose I should apologize for making such a fuss. Its pretty obvious that you were joking. Also, songs mean different things depending on the person who here's them, so only the artist can truly say what it means, and even that is only in their own perspective.

  • @charger619c don't store your treasures up with moth and rust where thieves break in and steal is actually right out of a christian bible matthew 6:19

  • Matthew 6:20 for the win! I love the way Thrice makes the Bible even more poetic!

  • Check out an old cover I did of this song! [:

Love this band! They've evolved so much over the years!

  • such an amazing album. not much more to be said really

  • this is such an epic song

  • this song is really under appreciated

  • the last minute and a half of this song has so much emotion in it. these guys are the best song writers around. by far.

  • This bass line is filth

  • Very unappreciated song. Definitely my favorite song by Thrice.

  • One of my favorite Thrice songs, so amazing.

  • agreed. EPIC!

  • ahahahahahah skillet.... they don't even belong in the same subject as thrice... thrice dominates them in every aspect... much like any other band u put up against thrice..

  • @theweasel67 thank you!

  • i know nobody wants to hear it, but 90% of Dustin's songs have lyrics that are inspired by verses from the bible.

  • @CoandCaSSTB People can interpret songs however like like, however they see or interpret the song to them is based on how they comprehend it. So dont try to force people to think the way you do, let them take it in the way they want. If Dustin wanted to be a preacher he would be. Plus everyone knows Dustin uses biblical inspiration for his lyrics, that still doesnt mean people are subjected to religion.

  • @Mon5terMash0 yeah i agree with you, i wasnt saying that to try and convince people to understand something a certain way. It's just very interesting to me how often i'll hear a passage read and i've heard the words in a thrice song already.

  • @Mon5terMash0

Yes people may.. but most of Dustin's songs are very specific... even speaking with him, he knows his own songs are "heady"--his word. He takes many of his influences from CS Lewis and lately after he recommended it to me--the "Orthodoxy" by GK Chesterton--a man who influenced Lewis.

This song is about the twin towers falling, with scripture references to realize that God will destroy EVERYTHING... don't take pride in what man has built--it will fall... store treasure in heaven.

  • @droptozro incorrect, sorry.

just about every word refers to Frank Herbert's Children of Dune book. he even says in the songs meanings interview about Vheissu that this is the main idea of the song. literally to the point of repeating lines from the book like "sand will cover them (sand will cover this place)... sand will cover you"

  • @ericfarley0

could you quote more? or tell me more about what it has to do with the storyline?

it's quite clear "shadow of the real" is from the Bible, and "store your treasures up..." is also from the Bible.

I was under the impression the towers had to do with 9/11... but wasn't sure.

    thanks!

  • @droptozro Yes I agree these phrases originate from the Bible.. the song still strongly refers to Dune, yet Dune itself is a sci-fi commentary on religion and humanity in the future, like a tongue-in-cheek reference to modern christianity.. so we are pretty much both right, seeing as how it blends both

  • Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.~Mathew 6:19&20

  • Love the intro, didn't care for the outro

  • ahaha i noticed that oceans pic too. random XD

  • wtf one pic was from oceans 12 movie

  • like the outro in this song

  • Great song, awful vid.

  • i love Thrice, but sometimes the intros are too long.

  • @TheDeepblue7 neverrrrrrrr, i like the intros

  • i didn't say they were bad, but sometimes they just seem a little long

  • its a difference in opinion, i like them just the way they are. its whatever

  • yeah, i never said they were bad, and somtimes it is good that they are long

    just sometimes...

    Doesnt matter, I love THRICE!!!!!!!!!!11

  • In my opinion they're perfect, I like more spectacular entries not just 3,2,1, go and shit like that...

  • Ummm....are you forgetting about Deadbolt? Different style, but still amazing

  • ur an idiot, the intros are all 100% amazing, some outros are incredible as well

  • im om your side man untill u said they were retarted... they were voicing their opinions and you bashed them can you see the irony?

  • @jeremy

No, He didn't just voice it, he told others to go kill themselves(look below at the comments to see)who felt connected the meaning in this song... and you're telling others THEY'RE prejudice??? and no he said "emo" became trying to understand the meaning of the song instead of just accepting the song musically.

And you say not to judge hypocritically, but you are doing the same thing... cussing doesn't help aid your voice either.

  • J88P, you need to relax buddy. It's people like you who create the dumbest arguments in YouTube's commentary. I'm a hypocrite for saying that, but it won't end until someone says something... This song is great to anybody, it's music, not emo, even if "emo people" listen to it, so what? They aren't bothering you and they shouldn't be if you care so much about their comments on youtube, lol.

    Thrice fan for life.

    New York.

  • even though the lyrics are awesome... this is one of thrice's musical best

  • @J88P I can't even imagine how much of a joy you are to be around. (Sarcasm if you didn't catch that)

  • @J88P i'm sorry for you, but songs can have a deeper meaning, but really you should try listening to some good music instead of songs that got two lines descriping a girl repeating.

  • haha, you couldn't be more wrong.

it's you that is shallow and unable to see the meanings behind the songs... go listen to mainstream music if you don't have the depth to be able to dig deeper for songs that have purpose...

this song is in reference to Christ's words about how all will one day be under sand, God will shake the foundation of the world and only the truly foundational people will still stand... and it will not be buildings, steel, money, cars, etc... you will not be able to hide.

  • @J88P lol.. your ignorance is aboundingly hilarious.

you obviously do not know Thrice, know about Dustin, his lyrics or anything about mainstream music. ad hominem attack with name-calling? childish much? why dont you do yourself a favor and go read a book? k? it might help your intellect BEGIN to understand the genius that is behind the lyrics of this band and the power of God... almost EVERY single one of Thrice's songs has a reference to Christ, God, or the Bible.

  • Truer words were never spoken. If there is any music out there that actually has some substance/messages that all people should listen to, it's Thrice. Dustin Kensrue is a lyrical/musical genius and also a very nice guy I might add, I met him and the rest of the band this summer on Warped Tour. Really humble guys.

  • I second the motion that "J88P" read a book.

  • raptor JESUS lol

    your funny.

    my hero.

  • @J88P dude dude dude... seriously, I'm completely atheist but, damn your arguments suck =P the world doesn't work on money, the people work on surviving and having a nice life in the process... And music can help with that, whether it's christian rock like Thrice or mainstream or whatever... And talking shit about Jesus can be funny but at least try making it satirical and not sound like a douche xD

  • @Nosf666 Thrice isn't "Christian rock"

  • @redef1ne lol I knew somebody was going to say that. The point is, no-one cares, it's still good music.

  • agreed, every song you see on hear has some bible thumping fag saying its christian rock, just so they dont have to repent for listening to it

  • @J88P ... dude.... im not a christian, but you are a closed minded fool blundering aimlessly through a dark world. you need to grow up. stick the splintered end of your opinion up your dungfunnel and sit on it because no one benefits from hearing ignorance such as yours. +20 man points and a level up to nosf666, because he just pwned you.

  • @Nosf666 your a fucking idiot bud, the world works on people surviving, look at africa bud, or any third world country you think its for lack of trying to survive that hey are failing, pretty sure every day they fight for their life, money is how we survive, not the act of trying to

  • @J88P Congratulations, you just missed the whole point =P

Money is the thing that gets us the things that we need to survive, but that's only because we defined it that way. Not the ACT of trying to survive is important but a fair social way of treating people for what they can do and for what they do. The people in Africa don't give a fuck if they get money to buy food or get food, because in the end they get food, and that is what I meant, that money is a tool and not the goal,

  • @Nosf666 completely agree with you unlike others who live in such a black and white world

  • @shadowsgate0 Thank you =)

I can't wait to see Thrice live in August by the way! =D

  • @J88P You are very blind. I personally don't believe in Christianity. I'm agnostic, I'm a very open-minded person. You blatantly saying "lolgodisfake" is completely ridiculous. There's no proof that god is real, yes, but there's also no proof he isn't. There's also no proof of whether or not the Greek Gods are real- but it's still possible they are. Just denying religion without anything to back you up is moronic and idiotic. Any religion could be true, kid. Any of 'em.

  • @MechaPedobear trying to talk logic on youtube is pointless. stop while you're ahead, friend ;)

  • @madak17 True. But ignorance does, at any time or place, bother me.

  • @MechaPedobear I agree completely, and i too am an agnostic. And that was a perfectly executed explanation

  • @MechaPedobear dirty emo kid, look at all the responces i got, damn, lol greek gods, I do have proof, its called science, the bible says man has been around for what? 4000 years, hmmmm, heres my proof, look it up, "isle of man" 9000 year old straw house, hmm pretty sure i just dropped the bible, people just hate being wrong, also, look at africa, is it really just about surviving, look at north america, are we just surviving, its have and have nots, the haves survive, the have nots die

  • @J88P im not a religous man but damn man you are ignorant. You really want to boil down something as complicated as the human race to "have and have nots"? If you want to consider yourself an animal do it, but dont be so quick to judge someone who holds themselves to a higher set of values and morals. And mind you this is coming from someone who does not believe in a god, but rather the greatness and progression of man.

  • @J88P dont get mad because you cant see beauty in anything, what is life without music and art? it is nothingness no point in existing

  • This song is sooo emotional... I listened to it during high school but still does some euphoria for me

  • same i totally agree i used to listen to it on th way to school, was deeeep for me

  • what is the meaning of this song? I'd really like to know.

  • This song is about how your "treasures" should be things that last, like love, rather than material objects. It's from a Bible verse that says "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven . . . for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

  • thank you! :]]

  • im sure it's open to interpretation, but i always thought of it in a biblical sense. It's a common theme in the bible, that everything in this world is temporal in nature, thus you're better off living a life that solidifies a better existence in the next life (an eternal life), than focusing on the provisional life on earth.

  • This song is insanely amazing.

  • yo the, guitar in this song is just plain addicting, it mkaes the song i think

  • While I agree that Skillet is a decent band, I gotta' say that Thrice is even better. Skillet has a lot going for them, but the sheer scope and execution of Thrice is unequaled for our day. Skillet's good, but Thrice is epic.

  • Well said :)

  • @targetbarney skiltet is the epitome of a cookie cutter "hardcore" rock band. they're terrible.

  • @targetbarney skillet is the epitome of a cookie cutter "hardcore" band. they're not even worth mentioning when talking about Thrice.

  • @targetbarney Skillet is trash.

  • @targetbarney Couldn't have said it any better.

  • @targetbarney How could you possibly compare the two? Skillet is shallow and completely dull. Thrice is imaginative and creative.

  • @PGTRegard Truth

  • @PGTRegard

    Truth be freaking told.

    Thrice > all

All Skillet songs sound exactly the same.

  • skillet is horrible

  • WHAT!?!???!??!!!!!

  • instead of mixed with bona i thought it said mixed with mono i was like wtf?

    BTW...This is actually pretty good...

  • i love this song. and the oceans 12 pic randomly thrown in there made me lol at work, with headphones on, so it was extra-loud and awkward. thanks.

  • mixed wit Bono

  • their singer sounds liek da OLP singer.

  • This song is absolutely perfect, Thrice are incredible - I love the way their sound has developed over time

  • And why doe's it give you chills?

  • such a good song my fav thrice song too =]

  • ya whats with the oceans twelve pic?

  • the guitar in this song is chillingly amazing! Thrice's best song, in my opinion. Along with Atlantic : )

  • ha whats with the random pic of matt damon, george clooney and brad pitt?

  • matthew 6: 19-24 hahah

  • they look so angry !! lol

  • well i meant obviously i dont know them best but know them better than some (to have known whos who), sorry about the previous mistake

  • shit i meant to "reply" to guitarandboy but i hit "span". sorry a billion! i think this may be thrice's best song..

  • Well Done, thank you for the video. What a song...A fan... ;-)

  • the pic of the band at 2 mins 38 sec, lol, I bet dustin isnt too proud of that haircut from back in the day hehe. Amazing song from the best band in the world

  • rofl... wut's with the random oceans 12 pic?

  • asdsfghhs

  • THE best song on vheissu

  • damn straight

  • they used to be post hardcore but they are more experimental rock now

  • Omg this song pwn's every song i have ever heard <3 thrice

    the lyrics impacted me deeply..

    and the sound X__X KO

  • best thrice song(?)

the ending is typical of thrice's talent to break up the heavy stuff and show a different style

  • When I first heard this band I seriously disliked their style. Now more than two years later I look on them and realized how very talented they actually are. They just have a beautiful sound.

  • my god this song is amazing when your baked...it just reminds me of my HS senior yr...
