Because in D3, even with crappy graphics, it lagged on Mount Ordeals 3 (Most annoying stage in Disgaea, ever.)

Those nekomata are equipped with the Fatal Counter evility (Boosts counter damage by 100% when at 25% HP or lower), and the Lion Stance evility (Adds damage taken to the damage dealt by the following counterattack), which is why their damage output keeps increasing with each hit.

Here's a fun fact: The game actually glitched via integer overflow after the 180 quadrillion damage hit at 0:51. If it weren't for this glitch (and assuming I have the approximate counterattack damage formula right), the last hit at 1:07 would've hit for over 185 quintillion damage; instead it hit for "only" 150 quadrillion. Also, based on this video and a bit of CS knowledge, the damage cap appears to be floor(2^64/100) = 184,467,440,737,095,516.

Actually, scratch that, now that I've seen it again, it seems that the damage, in theory, still increases two-fold every blow.

Its just the fact that damage seems to be capped at 2^32 oku (億) and it just overflows at every blow then.
