No naive at all. In most communist/socialist systems, unlike their description on an egalitarian society, there is always an "elite" who take our production and lord it over the rest of us. These people are the elite. You see, they believe that people are born into their specific class and they shouldn't move up at all, or be allowed to. Sometimes its called slammed the door behind you - they get rich but no one else after them.

We bail out students, we pass them when they have not earned their high school degree. Why not bailouts. If the students were properly prepared, would businesses who have to hire this dumbed-down workforce now have to make a profit with employees who can't comprehend what they read, don't read the email, nor can spell check possibly correct how they type a letter.

Ah Teeebs - businesses do things based on future trends. Most businesses are laying off workers and cutting back because they know that under an Obama Kingdom, things will get much much worse before they get better. If Obama came out tomorrow and said huge tax cuts for everyone across the board, shut down huge swaths of government and cut spending, business would take that as a sign to staff up, not lay off. Good businesses plan ahead for bad times - so worse times must be ahead of us.

Public Companies downsize because of past earnings, to cut losses they have already endured, to make a profit by any means so they look good to their stockholders. If they could see into the future Chris, they would have laid off these people over a year ago. Get smart, will ya

It goes both ways. Companies also staff up when they are looking at better times. At the moment, no one is staffing up, assuming REALLY BAD times with Obama in charge. He could do a million things to completely nip this recession in the bud, but he won't, because those moves are anathema to him, as a giant government statist who cannot even imagine a free market solution working.

It's called regression analysis, and any successful business will look at their *past* business performance and *current* market indicators to make it's decisions.

The "bad times" are the fact that we have had repeated quarters of negative GDP growth... these all happened in the PAST.
