@TheUniverseExists I'm not so sure about that. Rome was surrounded by countless tribes who I think would be less than willing to negotiate with the Persians. Some might, but I think most of them would resist the Persians. Also, who's to say there wasn't another threat facing the Persians at the time? A Greek rebellion could occur, or some foreign enemy like the barbarians living just North of Greece could take advantage of a Persian army garrisoned in Greece that had been weakened from fighting.

@IranPriest How the hell does the world need an Iranian order. Iran can hardly order itself, let alone the world.
Nor would it be glorious, glory is a bullshit world ascribed to events that people want to reconcile with themselves because they were horrible. Descriptions of glorious wars are to make people forget the slaughter. Fear any regime that describes itself as glorious because it is insecure, violent, delusional and almost certainly totalitarian.
@IranPriest Hollywood had nothing to do with it. Greeks did the stopped the invaders of Greece and Europe from the middle east and saved the World from what is iran tyranny today. You seem to notice that, you live in Germany. Seems you

@Boukephalos1 actually mate,i would rather av a persian ruler back then than a roman or greek ruler...what most people in the west dont know, the persians were the 1st empire to lay down a law based on human rights, the persians also allowed freedom of religion in lands they conquered, thats why jews admire the ancient persians over the greeks n romans, dont believe western propaganda that shows ancient persians as tyranical rulers n were known slave masters, its all bullshit, persian empire is great.
@fmoa funny mate we all know of the rules the persians wrote it's just hilarious you believe they followed them. The killed, castrated thousands that disobeyed, s they owned slaves because every subject was his slave. The persian empire existed by conquering and taking over EXISTING Great empires, Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian. They were copiers and conquerors. Hammurabi Codes were plagiarized. They're a 600BC empire that lasted until Alexander the Great. Greece was 900 yrs older by then.
@Boukephalos1 LOL..you do know greece n romans also commit mass murders on conquered people, they also rape little boys of conquered nations, fucken gay bastards, you say persian own slaves,so as the romans n greece too, rome n greeks av slaves also,no matter what you said about persia, most historians claim they were the 1st to draft human rights n freedom of religion, you cant change that, you cant, even alexander wanted persepolis to be his capital,he didnt want to go back to gay greece.
@Boukephalos1 oi n persian castrated thousands if they disobey, hahahaha, where did you get that,is that what your greeks n roman historian tells you,the jews prefer the persians over greeks n romans, even afghan tribes n northern india tribes considered the aryan iranians as civilized n great,oh the persian were around way before there empire started you idiot, they were already civilized by 2800 bc,during that time, greeks were running around in undies n fucking each other ass n uncivilize fags.
@fmoa no I don't think you got anything there boy,.persians were around but they were living in their huts and caves prior to 600BC.
Never writing , never building, never venturing out of their location. There is NOT one recorded great persian accomplishment prior to 600 BC. Greeks were however setting up settlements all over the Mediterranean and not by conquest, trading posts and advancing the surrounding civilization if there were any or starting them around 1800BC. So you were saying?
@Boukephalos1 LOL..the egyptian accomplish more than greeks from 1800BC to 500BC you idiot, you do know the egyptian also recorded there trades n religious offering to persian dynasty of medes n achaemenes from 900BC to 700BC,so you were saying persian never accomplish anything from 600BC was kinda bullshit, the achaemenes were around 900BC n started to have there kings around 700BC n came to world dominace around 600-500BC to 300BC..please go learn persian history before you start yapping.
@fmoa You're incorrect persia did not exist as a nation until Cyrus combined them 550BC.prior to that they lived in the mtns of northern iran. Absolutely not an advanced civilization. As matter of fact they only became one after conquering and acquiring the knowledge from these empires. The previous empires were Assyrian, Sumerian, Babylonian, Hykosos. It is you that must "go learn" before you start yapping. Happy days troll. Thanks for allowing me to set you straight.
@Boukephalos1 The Persians were from the south, not the north. The Medes and Parthians were from the north. Furthermore, by the time the Iranian tribes had moved to Iranian plateau, the Sumerians no longer existed, having been conquered by the Akkadians for centuries, and their language extinct. Before the Iranian tribes unified, the Persians had been living among the Elamites for some centuries. They became advanced through them, not the places they were to later conquer.
@HashRash87 Compete fabrication on your part. How do you know? The Elamites were nomadic tribesmen around for centuries( still a question that they were Persians or Medes) but kicked out and ruled for centuries by any and all in the Mesopotamia areas. They were not advanced by any means. The Persians only came into power during Cyrus age, lasted 200 yrs and were replaced by Alexander and his generals.
@Boukephalos1 Findings of Elamite settlements are older than those of Sumerian findings, the cities of Chogha Mish and Chogha Bunat dating back to as far as 6800 BC. Sumerians, and later Akkadians competed back and forth on rule of Mesopotamia. At some points Elamites were in charge, others not. The Elamite heartland was in present day Khuzestan province of Iran, away from the Mesopotamian heartland. Cyrus age lasted 200 years, Alexanders age lasted 80, Arsacid 400 and Sassanid 400 more.
@HashRash87 No Alexander's and his Generals ruled all or part of Persia for 200 yrs. Losing ground but financing the Parthian(Hellenized) and still holding on until around 30-60 BC. I'm not dismissing Persian history far from it, I want it exalted. it only proves Greek prowess more.
@Boukephalos1 "No Alexander's and his Generals ruled all or part of Persia for 200 yrs."
Emphasis on 'part of'. They began losing more and more ground after the rise of the Parthians. After 140 years, most of Iran was in Parthian hands, 20 years after that, Media was reclaimed, followed by expansion into Mesopotamia. So, it's 160 years, not 200. Which leaves the Parthian rule of Iran at 375 years, followed without interregnum by the Sassanids.
@HashRash87 You seem to omitted that partly means, they didn't remove the Greeks until the date I gave and that the Parthians were completely Hellenized and financed by Rich Greeks that continued to reside in persia.
@Boukephalos1 The Parthians were not completely Hellenized. If they were, there would be no Persian culture left. The fact that Persians to this day still celebrate ancient Zoroastrian holidays and use that calendar attests to that. The Parthians were partly Hellenized, yes. A mix of the two cultures that was beneficial. But Parthians also held the Achaemenids high and saw themselves as their successors. And 160 years, not 200. Mesopotamia is not part of Persia. The reclaim of Media was enough.

@fmoa One final thing you have a few things wrong about Greeks in the afghan/india/pakistan area of the world. They have accepted Alexander the Great as one of their own and argue over how much Greek DNA they have in their system. It was Fun writing you it allows me the opportunity to reveal my ancestors history. Thanks.
@Boukephalos1 LOL..last i heard, only small tribes of people in afghanistan n pakistan claim to have greek DNA,majority of the tribes claim to have descended from genghis khan,if you dont believe me,go visit afghanistan or pakistan, most there have last name khan n most followed central asia tribesman tradition related to the turks n the mongols n muslim religion, only a few claim greek descend you stupid, alexander was accepted coz he was a great leader, alexander himself prefer staying in persia.
@fmoa hat's because their muslim.. But iskandar is popular name and they pride in believing they are also descendants of Alexander the Great even though they are muslim You're not to bright are you?
Fuck off. Just a big lay.may The biggest Fake-Story in the History. After the War 2006 between Israel and Hisbollah in Lebanon and the Damage of Israel army have the Zionist Chefs of Hollywood need a martyrdom-Story like the Ashura by the great Shia-Warriors in Lebanon. they searched in the History and take the Story of Thermopyl, changed it and make the same Story like the Ashura Martyrdom. But this Story is Chip an without Mind. So the Western Philosophy.
Of course, 80 years later a few well placed ballistas could have easily punched through the Spartan lines, and we'd all be Zoroastrians now. Trust me, it all worked out for the better. After all, who wants to worship some dude with so many syllables in his name?
Yea he conquered it and combined Persian culture and Greek culture together after that he made Greece a empire.then a few years later Alexander died and the empire fell apart and the major 3 generals divided there armies to 3 independent nations then the empire was loss.
these Spartans...these Heros...these Warriors ...they r ..great, this is how we men should fight, fighting with strenght, honour, determination, superiour combat skills
i know that the Israeli army is close to the ancient Spartan army, we fight also the way Spartan have fought, we also train like them. but the Spartans putted the first example for how battle should be fought..
@Testosteron250 good point there 250, I see what you mean by the "fully trained" as they would only get better in time. However (now excuse me bad secondary sourcing!) according to Herodotus who wrote of the Spartans, they were "taken from their mothers, once they reached the age of seven". The Spartan society would today be considered nearly barbaric, as its suggested any deformed babies were "discarded".
Historical evidence exists to suggest that the boys of Sparta were taken from families at age 7 (considered to be fully trained age 18).
If at age 18 they were fully trained and able to get a wife. The 300 had to have sons that were able to continue their blood line, age 7+. At the end of the day, if you do something for 20 odd years, you will get good at it. Persians didn't train for 20 years to fight.
@burningseapirate True,I would only not use terms like "taken from", and "fully trained"...There was a reason why full citizenship is acquired in age of 30,and why those 20-22 y.o were becoming eirenes only...true military training would probably only start at their teens, not finish by no means...But we agree on the main point. 20+ years of military training is unmatchable
I kinda hate how even this documentary make the Persians look like barbaric monsters with no fighting skills, which wasn't the case at all. Actually, the whole thing isn't much more historical than 300. At least the Spartans are wearing armour and don't have lambdas on their shields in this.
@Testosteron250 Thanks, although this is actually very accurate armour for the Spartans around this period, the muscle cuirasses were a Greek invention later used by the Romans, and the Spartans used them a lot.
@zenodoros you're welcome..No they are not,not at all in fact..Around Persian wars they used this type(next comment) or even earlier archaic types... and we have plenty of evidence, material(real armor),pictorial and statuettes which show what type of armor was used 530-480bc (and none show muscle curiass)...This type of "muscle curiass"(although never this exaggerated as in video) came in 4-3c BC in Greece, and there is no evidence Spartans(or what was left of them at that time) ever used it.
@Alesandros356 not really since SWAT is pure spoiled shit among special forces...try EKAM,the Greek special police, one of the best units and definitely craziest people I have seen...GIGN,SAS,SAJ as well...if you decided to make that kind of comparison.
@ProfessorZaroff reason horatio aint popular like the spartans is the quality of the enemy he face, leonidas n his 300 face the persian empire, the largest known empire during that time, the etruscan horatio face werent a world power like the persians, world powers in horatio times are the greeks n upcoming persians,if horatio beat 1 of this ancient civilization, then we might put horatio up there wit the spartans, but he didnt,oh horatio roman descendents cannot even conquer the persians.
@fmoa Actually Horatio was hugely popular. But one dude in underwear vs. 300 dudes? That would be like having only 1 Village Peep, and that would just not be gay enough.
@pesoaryassianhole, the arab- Oriental.Still suffering from the Documented iranian Fear Disease or IFD, called "Iranapocaroo", for the layman, it's the overwhelming desire to turn yourself into 1000's of little iranian assholes and shiite yourself to death when confronting GREEKS. see the video above for the reason why.
300 Spartan Causalities to 20,000 Persian, That's roughly 66 Kills for each Spartan, that's amazing! This documentary is very well done, I find it better than the movie 300. Also, why are people arguing about something that happened Thousands of years ago?! Maybe you people are the 'Barbarians'.
Leonidas certainly was a great leader as well a Tactician, and Xerxes used the one way to defeat him. Truly on of history's greatest battles, and an Amazing and timeless story.
@rdvd7 you forgot other 5000-6000 Greeks who fought until the last day when retreat was ordered..and even then with Spartans stood what was left of 700 Thespeians..
@Testosteron250 I thought the Persian 20,000 deaths was s direct result of the Spartans, if not it's still very impressive that all the Greek City States were able to hold off one of the largest armies in history.
And yes, I'm western European, but those people partly really talk crap:
Where do they want to know how the Spartans had their last stand when nobody survived? And of course it was said that Leonidas was killed by arrows, they also would have said this if he was killed by being defeated hand-to-hand, but it just sounds better...
And the Greec "democracy" was actually an Aristrocracy, and I don't think that the will of people to be free would have depended on the Greeks ; )
@usisbest2007 Athens was far more democratic than USA??? OMG!!!! Sure they were, I mean, if you think that democracy is a system where only MAN over 25 years and very rich could vote, well, in that case, Athens was democratic... The real Democracy was born in Finland in 1906 when women voted for the FIRST time in human history. Democracy is for everyone, not just for a few. For your information, Greek women were only allow to vote in 1952, regardless their age or income.
...so what? There're a lot of Greek words which nowadays have different meanings, tyrannis e.g. has been a king of a Greek city and not a tyrant.
Imo it's more democratic to allow everybody to vote for the lesser evil (USA) than being ruled by a bunch of nobels which are always looking for their (families/groups) wealth ; )
people stop talking about the 300 spartans movie like it's fact! it is a blockbuster movie not a documentary!!!! get real!!!! and i'm having fun reading the racist remarks from both sides...funny people
Shortly we will have to fight the persians again.(Iran) We do have a big ally in the Israelis. We need to turn them loose on the iranians and bring justice to our lands.

@Boukephalos1 actually mate,i would rather av a persian ruler back then than a roman or greek ruler...what most people in the west dont know, the persians were the 1st empire to lay down a law based on human rights, the persians also allowed freedom of religion in lands they conquered, thats why jews admire the ancient persians over the greeks n romans, dont believe western propaganda that shows ancient persians as tyranical rulers n were known slave masters, its all bullshit, persian empire is great.
fmoa 1 year ago 18
@fmoa funny mate we all know of the rules the persians wrote it's just hilarious you believe they followed them. The killed, castrated thousands that disobeyed, s they owned slaves because every subject was his slave. The persian empire existed by conquering and taking over EXISTING Great empires, Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian. They were copiers and conquerors. Hammurabi Codes were plagiarized. They're a 600BC empire that lasted until Alexander the Great. Greece was 900 yrs older by then.
Boukephalos1 1 year ago
@Boukephalos1 LOL..you do know greece n romans also commit mass murders on conquered people, they also rape little boys of conquered nations, fucken gay bastards, you say persian own slaves,so as the romans n greece too, rome n greeks av slaves also,no matter what you said about persia, most historians claim they were the 1st to draft human rights n freedom of religion, you cant change that, you cant, even alexander wanted persepolis to be his capital,he didnt want to go back to gay greece.

So you were saying?

fmoa 1 year ago 13
@fmoa You're incorrect persia did not exist as a nation until Cyrus combined them 550BC.prior to that they lived in the mtns of northern iran. Absolutely not an advanced civilization. As matter of fact they only became one after conquering and acquiring the knowledge from these empires. The previous empires were Assyrian, Sumerian, Babylonian, Hykosos. It is you that must "go learn" before you start yapping. Happy days troll. Thanks for allowing me to set you straight.
Boukephalos1 1 year ago
@Boukephalos1 The Persians were from the south, not the north. The Medes and Parthians were from the north. Furthermore, by the time the Iranian tribes had moved to Iranian plateau, the Sumerians no longer existed, having been conquered by the Akkadians for centuries, and their language extinct. Before the Iranian tribes unified, the Persians had been living among the Elamites for some centuries. They became advanced through them, not the places they were to later conquer.
HashRash87 1 year ago

HashRash87 1 year ago
@HashRash87 Compete fabrication on your part. How do you know? The Elamites were nomadic tribesmen around for centuries( still a question that they were Persians or Medes) but kicked out and ruled for centuries by any and all in the Mesopotamia areas. They were not advanced by any means. The Persians only came into power during Cyrus age, lasted 200 yrs and were replaced by Alexander and his generals.
Boukephalos1 1 year ago
@Boukephalos1 Findings of Elamite settlements are older than those of Sumerian findings, the cities of Chogha Mish and Chogha Bunat dating back to as far as 6800 BC. Sumerians, and later Akkadians competed back and forth on rule of Mesopotamia. At some points Elamites were in charge, others not. The Elamite heartland was in present day Khuzestan province of Iran, away from the Mesopotamian heartland. Cyrus age lasted 200 years, Alexanders age lasted 80, Arsacid 400 and Sassanid 400 more.
HashRash87 1 year ago
@HashRash87 No Alexander's and his Generals ruled all or part of Persia for 200 yrs. Losing ground but financing the Parthian(Hellenized) and still holding on until around 30-60 BC. I'm not dismissing Persian history far from it, I want it exalted. it only proves Greek prowess more.
Boukephalos1 1 year ago
@Boukephalos1 "No Alexander's and his Generals ruled all or part of Persia for 200 yrs."
Emphasis on 'part of'. They began losing more and more ground after the rise of the Parthians. After 140 years, most of Iran was in Parthian hands, 20 years after that, Media was reclaimed, followed by expansion into Mesopotamia. So, it's 160 years, not 200. Which leaves the Parthian rule of Iran at 375 years, followed without interregnum by the Sassanids.
HashRash87 1 year ago
@HashRash87 You seem to omitted that partly means, they didn't remove the Greeks until the date I gave and that the Parthians were completely Hellenized and financed by Rich Greeks that continued to reside in persia.
Boukephalos1 1 year ago
@Boukephalos1 The Parthians were not completely Hellenized. If they were, there would be no Persian culture left. The fact that Persians to this day still celebrate ancient Zoroastrian holidays and use that calendar attests to that. The Parthians were partly Hellenized, yes. A mix of the two cultures that was beneficial. But Parthians also held the Achaemenids high and saw themselves as their successors. And 160 years, not 200. Mesopotamia is not part of Persia. The reclaim of Media was enough.

@Testosteron250 good point there 250, I see what you mean by the "fully trained" as they would only get better in time. However (now excuse me bad secondary sourcing!) according to Herodotus who wrote of the Spartans, they were "taken from their mothers, once they reached the age of seven". The Spartan society would today be considered nearly barbaric, as its suggested any deformed babies were "discarded".
burningseapirate 1 year ago
@Alesandros356 Of course they were.
Persians didn't train for 20 years to fight.
burningseapirate 1 year ago
@burningseapirate True,I would only not use terms like "taken from", and "fully trained"...There was a reason why full citizenship is acquired in age of 30,and why those 20-22 y.o were becoming eirenes only...true military training would probably only start at their teens, not finish by no means...But we agree on the main point. 20+ years of military training is unmatchable

I kinda hate how even this documentary make the Persians look like barbaric monsters with no fighting skills, which wasn't the case at all. Actually, the whole thing isn't much more historical than 300. At least the Spartans are wearing armour and don't have lambdas on their shields in this.
zenodoros 1 year ago
@zenodoros agreed completely...also they do wear armor but it is Roman type,so no body armor would be even more plausible that this...
Testosteron250 1 year ago
@Testosteron250 Thanks, although this is actually very accurate armour for the Spartans around this period, the muscle cuirasses were a Greek invention later used by the Romans, and the Spartans used them a lot.
zenodoros 1 year ago
@zenodoros you're welcome..No they are not,not at all in fact..Around Persian wars they used this type(next comment) or even earlier archaic types... and we have plenty of evidence, material(real armor),pictorial and statuettes which show what type of armor was used 530-480bc (and none show muscle curiass)...This type of "muscle curiass"(although never this exaggerated as in video) came in 4-3c BC in Greece, and there is no evidence Spartans(or what was left of them at that time) ever used it.

@usisbest2007 Athens was far more democratic than USA??? OMG!!!!
