I saw him about twelve years ago in Italy. Can you imagine he sitting in a little folk Club lost in Torino, north Italy fog, sitting with his old guitar (yes the one with the cowboy on it), with a little bottle of whiskey in front of him singing "Red River Valley" and, under my request "Me and Bobby Mc Gee" ? I like him since I heard his version of "Diamond Joe" on a old "Newport Festivval" record.Great artist, and a beautiful song, indeed. Thanks to be. Paul
God music and singing. The value of the photo montage is considerable. I remember hearing him preface a song by saying, "I sang this song in..... and they gave me enough money to get out of there." A folksinger's life is in them thar words.
@TheFolksinger Thanks, Bill. That's such an endearing Jack story, if a folksinger's life is in thar words, I gotta say that Jack rambled more than most. :o)
I first came in touch with Ramblin' Jack and his music back in 1976? when he participated on the 2 "Folkfriends"-Records recorded in Hannes Wader's old windmill in Germany, together with Wizz Jones, Werner Lämmerhirt, Alex Campell and lots of other guys. Loved him since and his records still run on my turntable...
Really well done. I used to go see him at the Riverboat coffee house in Toronto. I've only ever managed to collect 8 of his albums. I knew there were more but I didn't know there were that many.
Great song. Those lyrics and melody are the best. Knee slapping and toe tapping song. I can hear the blue notes playing so well in the music. Great improv during the bridge section. Love this kind of music, with a rag time saloon piano. Great pictures in the video......Bill
Thank you so much for the posting of "Rambling' Jack Elliott - Anthem of America" I was a treat to hear It. I will sing it's praises to everyone. Be well & God Bless, Lenny W. NYC
jack was real good. heard him play at a small club in Venice, Ca. in the sixties. He often played what some call "Travis Pickin'". out fluenced many pickers and storytellers
if influenced means he got people to copy or made an affect on them... by out fluenced do you mean he turned them to playing or listening to death metal or something lol
I really love this music... and the brillant video! By the way - how did you know i love folk music - especially songs from woody, pete seeger, tom paxton and all these great musicians?
Well, Ramblin Jack Elliot is what I call a musicians musician. An inspiration for among others Kris Kristofferson (The Pilgrim) and Mick Jagger, who bought his first guitar, because he had heard Ramblin Jack etc...
I also consider Ramblin' Jack to be one of the three pillars of 20th century folk music - Woody, Jack, and Bob Dylan, with Ramblin' Jack being the bridge between Woody and Bob.
I wonder why this was send to me and why you guys would think I would like this? I do not see how I have given any indication I like this kind of country music?
Yeah, I'm glad we did, too. Fixing it to "trick" utube's new compression algorithm was going to be a major job, and the utube glitch already delayed us a day past his birthday.
I'm glad you find yourself singing them all the time. That's the sign alright.
Well Jan, i cant figure out if its your beautiful voice, honky tonk piano or just gorgeous you but then i realize that you gotta man who plays mean guitar, rides horses and drinks whiskey so i'll back off for my own safety. Just want to say you guys are stars on u tube, love your songs and music.
Ah Yes the Legendary Rambling Jack Elliot! what a wonderful video Jan. I love the songs and well this is the best Damn vid I've seen all month ******* a thousand stars
