My Father and Mother are close to death. This song is comforting and reassuring It's OK to smile through the pain. Life does go on, albeit without them. And to think that this song was written by Charlie Chaplin, the great comedian of the silent movies. I think he derived his comedy from a place where he understood the underlying sorrow of this life. I believe that he saw his comedy as an antedote for human sadness.
