  • This is a great video

  • I know what all you guys are thinking: why explicitly does the Riemannian tensor measure the noncommutativity of the covariant derivative?

Don't be shy - admit it. We're all thinking the same thing. ;)

  • thank you susskind. youre lectures are the best!!!

  • its make me sleep with number.

  • i dont understand this n not many people are interested in relativity.

what i curious is how this lecture was viewed by hundred thousand people?

bcz i know not many people interested in this kind of stuff.

i am studying yr1(some of them 2) math,i hope someday i understand the math related to relativity(probably not,i know)

  • @singularku Well possibly because this is a video from a world renowned university, and i think you'll find you are hugely mistaken when you said 'not many people are interested in this stuff'

  • @singularku Hey, I'm a Dual Math and Physics major at my local Uni and it is certainly possible to gain the knowledge required to understand this subject. My tip is: take baby steps. Any subject seems esoteric when you don't have the understanding "up until that point." It'd be much like dropping a student that only understand algebra into a calculus class - he or she may understand some points but not the "higher" understanding the course entails. Fear not! It will come =)

  • @singularku my curiosity is: how people are not interested in how this world works?

  • u know a professor is boring if he or she has a beard.

  • @landesal You know a professor is disciplined and wise if he or she has a beard. My proof? Well then actually watch the video.

  • @singhsikh99 you do understand that I was being sarcastic since 90 percent of college professors have beards, even the women, hence supporting the hypothesis that they are all fuckin boring.

  • @landesal false.

  • took this idiot 2 hours to explain this shit?

  • i wonder if this theory still stands after the new discovery about Particles breaking the speed of light limits...

  • God? maybe, but the bible is a really low probability bet.

  • God is still creator, this does not disprove him.

  • @mailbox2223

    He never tried idiot

  • Watching this makes me realize just how brilliant people are!!

  • Still Doesn't Disprove God

  • @RealityHurts923 "god" is something people use to explain something unexplainable

answer me this what makes more sense

nothing become something? or a god creating himself, who also as magical powers, he doesnt even need to breathe or eat!!, creating everything?

  • @litojonny "God" being something people use to explain something unexplainable is just your OPINION not a fact. As to your question, neither makes sense but one does seem to contradict the other. Who says GOD created himself? Why couldn't he have come from nothing if you believe other things can? "Eat" or "Breath"? Is your concept of God a living person?

  • @GhostOfTheAngels I'm a physics major and I'll admit that I hardly understand what he's talking about in some parts. Am I then "just too damn stupid"?

    Have some humility man.

  • 7 people are just too damn stupid.

  • 7 low life's who will never get anywhere

  • Show em a rock!!!

  • He thinks he is so smart, but he explains it like a FUKING DUMB SOCIALLY RETARDE MOTHERFUCKER

  • @MrThomStar calm down honey

  • I dont get it

  • i like mw2 and bacon

  • light isn't the fastest anymore...

  • 1:50:35 he's at it again :D

  • If anyone watched the whole 1:59:32 vote a thumb up! I gave up after 0:03:24

  • @OldSlimey hahah holy crap it did sound like his brain exploded ay

  • Recently read in a newspaper that a research on Neutrinos was made, and it was found that , Neutrinos travel faster than velocity of light. Howzzat. Can Einstein be wrong...???

  • he lost me at "here's space"

  • @PILOTasRAHMAN Right back at ya! ;P

  • exactlyl the same thing happened to me elidrissii. I sort of hung in there for the 1st hr and had to take a break lol

  • 47:14 he vomits again xD

  • honestly wtf happened at 0:42

  • I understand this completely...

  • 0:00:44 BLESS YOU

  • 0:45 LOL!

  • ....is he the janitor? XD

  • At 0:45; did someone call out bull shit?

  • 1:49:02 That circle is perfect!

  • well this was a total waste... einstein's theory was recently disproved lmfao...

  • wtf.... 2 hours.? fuck off

  • lol 00:44

  • Share the cookie with the class!

  • I totally get what he's sayin.

  • this was dubbed wrong, so that means that he wasted 2 hours of his life.

  • 0:42 that's the sound of a man whose brain couldn't handle a non-zero right side value.

  • @OldSlimey you have no idea how much that comment made me laugh

  • @OldSlimey hahaha i lol'ed

  • @OldSlimey funniest observation I've heard/seen for a while!!! ha ha

  • that's great and all, but will it blend?

  • well ... that was boring and interesting at the same time.

  • Vomit at :45. hahahaha

  • this is why i go to community college.

  • Sam Witwiki proved this theory wrong.

  • @luger74 and many others :))

  • from 1 year of physics at university I remember the theory of relativity being the most fucked up lesson...

  • After the first seventeen minutes or so, my brain exploded. Fuck it, Imma just stick to algebra II......Oh, and R.I.P. Steve Jobs. I forgot for a second I clicked this video after his Stanford Speech.....

  • so guyz u dun wana go to university anymore ????

  • Why am I here?

  • this guy if funny ass !

  • tl;dw

  • Skip to the 1:56:00 mark.

"Blah blah blah, I forgot what the question was, but I think I answered it."

He then procceds to eat again.

  • 10:34 nom nom nom..

  • wait, so einstein's general theory of relativity is itself a full university course?

    Thumbs up for Einstein!!!

  • I feel so dumb watching this I have no clue what the hell he talking about..*sigh*..my brain hurt

  • Boring!

  • what is r^3 and r^2 ? Relativity ?

  • i understand everything perfectly ... dont worry guys im gonna hire you in my company soon

  • @OrryBoy witch company u mean?

  • next class, he brings in three double doubles from In-N-Out to graze on during the lecture

  • Okay I'm @ the 58 minute mark.. I think this guy is making shit up as he goes along ;) ;) haha!

  • your comments just amuse me...i click this one too rigth after i watched Steve's speech.and yes , I dont understand a thing with what the professor is talking about,,,I FEEL SOOOOOO DUMB AND STUPID......oh well, thats why i am a singer bwhahahhahhha

  • 30:45

"We could use maxwells equation but they're a bit complicated"

Ahhh wave motion, I understand now.... :)

  • His eating and talking is VERY ANNOYING!!!!

  • Space is a cone if you put a particle in it???

  • @Billyfozz hahahahaa thats all i got outta this too

  • He eats biscuits Rmv + drinks coffee Gmv...

  • the title sounds interesting...too bad I don't understand Russian.

  • I leave this video up on my computer when I bring girls over to impress them with my intelligence. In reality, I don't have a fucking clue what this man is talking about.

  • Why the hell am I watching this. I study marketing, Procrastinationnnn

  • Nope.. I just watched the Steve Job video too.. then clicked on this...looked interesting..;)

  • no1 ever answers a questions lol every student is lost

  • Hey kids, this more shocking and 'out there' than Lady Gaga.

  • I saw it was 2 hours long, then typed this comment, and went back to porn.

  • @snipes1836 you couldn't have gone back porn while you're typing this comment.

  • @snipes1836 you are my idiol

  • @snipes1836

you're recalling history before it happened. probably you left b/c you have already mastered the bending of spacetime.

  • @snipes1836 hahahhahahahhahahahha

  • i watched 14:37 mins and i was like WTF!!!!

  • I'll never look at my janitor the same way ever again...

  • My favorite part was 1:59:32

  • omfg i only got the shapes n the cone den he said 1over R i got a lil lost

  • What. the. hell. I got lost after "Heres space" and then everything he said after that sounded like a bunch of random made up words.... Am i Alone here??

  • @MoshPitProductions17 You're a year late for that joke...

  • @MoshPitProductions17 I hate people like you who just try desperately to copy the top comments.

  • im in college and still learning fractions lol

    PROBLEMBRO?

  • Everybody clicked this after they saw the Steve Jobs video, lol. Or am I alone?

  • @elidrissii your not alone buddy xd

  • @elidrissii

    no i did too lol

  • @elidrissii HAHAHAHA SO TRUE BRO! So bored!

  • @elidrissii

    YUP!

  • @elidrissii lol i think u r rite.... lol every one seems to click...

  • @elidrissii hahahahaha i know i clicked after i saw the steve jobs vid. this man lost me at Here's space

  • @elidrissii HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • at 2:55 "The space has essentially disappeared,,its closed up into a um ummm ummm...silence...more silence lol too many Bong hits

  • @elidrissii Me too..

  • @elidrissii ur not alone hahah

  • @elidrissii haha...+1 :))

  • @elidrissii

Let's ponder that for a moment. Einstein or Jobs......Einstein or.....who? Somebody has their priorities backwards. Without Einstein we wouldn't have modern tech as we know it. Have a nice day. ^_^

  • @elidrissii

    I did too!

  • @elidrissii 630 Thumps up at 20 hrs? wow.

  • This is in German right? I don't understand any of this..

  • lolwtfbbq

  • just click "X" on the top right.

  • wat

  • RRRGGHH 0:44

  • If you think you're really understanding this, remember that the thing that's missing from this presentation is backbreaking homework problems. Been there, done that.

  • A very interesting and erudite course, delivered by a maestro of the subject. Those who are interested in this subject might enjoy the following entertaining books “Special Relativity: A concise guide for beginners and the sequel “General Relativity: A concise guide for beginners

  • 0:43 Someone was upset the right hand side is no longer zero

  • i'm 14 years old, but i can still understand what he's saying

  • @madsniperkill go out and get a girlfriend

  • @madsniperkill Understanding what he's saying is not the same as understanding what he means.

  • @madsniperkill go get a girlfriend faggot

  • i'm 14 years old, but i can still understand what he's saying?

  • lebron traveled?

  • I got 20 minutes into the lecture, and then remembered why I took the money and ran after I got A's in Physics 1 and Physics 2.

  • Space the final Frontier.... :D

  • OMG, that guy just looks like Castro!!!!!!

  • I have a theory on 4th dimension and entering into it,.......It's simple and i can explain but don't have the right words or equation but i can relate it to the bible and someone else can put the equation to it

  • LMAO 0:44 PHANTOM SNEEZE .... TAKE THEM PARTICLES

  • Time is a dimension because a thing has to have a duration to exist. And why even talk about a universe of two spacial dimensions? - unless sonic the hedgehog is watching these lectures?

  • when i sow how long the video is is really got scared XD and thanks for the good informations by the way :D

  • thanks for these nice lectures......

  • i would rather die now than seeing this video!

  • Empirically, the Einstein equations are more accurate than Newton's, especially when bodies of exceedingly large mass are concerned. According to Einstein, light in an accelerating frame must use the same equations. I think that if small enough regions of space are analyzed, so that space is essentially flat, curvature is not important and tensor equations are applicable to a particle moving in a straight line according to Newton's Laws. It's too bad that Einstein's unified theory never worked

  • I am microbiologist and i am so glad people like him exist...Cause nothing made sense to me....

  • those are 2 hours ill never get back :p

  • that's a bright class

  • @bluewhale18 are you being sarcastic?

  • @mixtape24 imagine learning c from a chinese person who couldn't really speak english. To this day i have no clue what she said during her lectures. I learned how to program overnight because i had a project due in a month. At the beginning of the semester we started with 45 students by the end of it we were down to 15. I hated those kids who knew how to program beforehand.

  • "Particles have energy, and the right hand side is no longer zero."

    "HUUUH"

  • thankyou stanford for the lecture ill be researching more

  • im very interested in einsteins theories i made it to 48 mins but its 3:47am and the professor telling us how einstein turned newtons theories into general tensor equations and how a single particle in no interferences like gravity/ electromagnetism travel in a direct path light for instance, light particles travel with no curve along a local area like a coordinate within space time im strait out of high school with basic knowlage of quantum mechanics and like u guys have said u have to really

  • @Tyler1369er think out of the box to understand how our dimensions work with general terms

  • @Tyler1369er

I didnt read your comment but what I've always wondered about: how do you put the time in your comment, you know, like in blue

  • How about calling this video Old Ass Stoned Gut Talks About Einstein.
