  • im 64 years old and am a geordie and i have always known it as a benker also, a metal ball bearing, as bassoprimo did, but who cares, i love these songs.

  • In Ashington, it was always Penker/Penkah

  • brought up in Dunston at the board school it was liggie but my kids in Chester le Street were taught penker.

  • I have always known it as "benker" in Co. Durham, a benker is a marble or ball bearing.

    Thanks for the comment re Penka - its interesting that you call it a Benker, we always called them Penka's but freinds of mine in the Necastle area call it a Liggie !
