  • Twitter is shit, but as I've found, if you choose not to get involved and are at all popular, they'll steal your name. So now we're at a point where every new social network will be guarenteed users just to make sure someone doesn't steal your online identity. realA1R5N1P3R is me on twatter, A1R5N1P3R is not, sucks huh? Fuck twitter...

  • u got 9 11 views................lo0l

  • Twatter could as well be called an "evolved" version of IRC.

I wonder if the See-Eye-8 isn't behind it like it is behind the Faecesbucket.. and Gurgle.

I prefer Yahoo, not that I have that much more privacy there...

  • thanks for this info,,,,i do appreciate it,,,rodney

  • OK. That Go Flyers comment iced it! You've gotta come over to the vlogging community I founded 8 months ago. It's called VloggerHeads and there are some very amazing people there.

And, some of us are also on Twitter.

    See you over there.

  • *crawling out of my cave* lol

Thanks for be the only person to successfully explain the facination with twitter to me. It looked like a facebook status update to me. Might have to check it out... btw...go Flyers!!

  • Sorry, I know that was off-topic.

  • Hey Tom, I've been offline for about 8 months, and it's amazing to be able to watch your stuff again. We've talked before, and hopefully again. You're still not an "old fart," by the way.

  • Thanks very much.

  • Just stumbled on to your channel Tom.:o)

  • I am a true twitterholic

  • Obviously, you're not alone!

  • I like your differentiation between live web and dead web. Nice vlog.

  • Sorry I missed this. Thanks. I think that's a pretty important difference today.

  • Thanks for making this video - it was about time someone explained Twitter to people who didn't see its value - until now.

I should forward it to my dad ;)

  • Good to hear from you. Glad you found this helpful. Would be interesting to hear what your dad thinks.

  • Insightful video Tom, as always. I have, thus far, avoided twitter and had no idea of the extent of what it had to offer. I must say, I think I'll be sure to give it a try (and you can be sure I WILL be following you!).

    Cheers!

  • Thanks. Let me know it's you when you do follow.

  • twitter , livevideo without the video . JV

  • I joined twitter a few weeks ago, and i like what i see so far. Excellent video :)

  • Another thing, I was very pleased to find, among others, Stephen Fry and Robert Llewellyn on there :D

(sorry for the length of my last comment by the way, I'm just as excited about Twitter as you are! :D)

  • I haven't been using twitter for very long, but already I love it :D I love all the little features it has to make using it easier. Like for example, the way it automatically shortens urls using tinyurl when you post them :D And it's great, as you say, for 'following' people who are interested in a particular subject. I'm following you on there already, cause I remembered when I joined up that you're one of the first people I remember talking about it. Great vid Tom. :)

  • They say its good for having your Questions Answered quickly

  • Obviously something I'm passionate about, especially since it's so easy to miss Twitter's functionality. Oh, you can overcome your reticence; Tweeter is a lovely moniker! Hope you're well.

  • Great and informative. I think I'll make a Twitter ID this very day. Thanks for the info!

  • Glad it was helpful.

  • Oh, and don't forget to follow: I'm tomguarriello on Twitter.

  • I spent much of last night using the information you gave in this video. You may have caused me to reassess Twitter.

  • Interested in hearing what you find after the reassessment.

  • I'm relatively new to twitter and only found it because you keep mentioning it over the years and I finally figured a few months back I better go see what the hell this thing is :)

    I'm seeing it's usefulness finally. :)

  • I have been beating this drum for a while, haven't I? Good to hear from you, Dan. Hope you're well.

  • Great video Tom.

It took me a while to really 'get' Twitter. Once i realised that i could mould the site, so that i could use it how I wanted to, i was sold.

Now, i really enjoy Twitter & the interaction that goes with it.

I didn't even realise Twitter was around in November '06. You really were an early adopter, not that that surprises me one bit :)

  • Yes, Twitter is highly mouldable, Andy. Yes, I got on early to see what it was about...I do that a lot!

    Cheers.

  • so it's like 20 years old IRC. in limited form... ;)

  • Well, in IRC you are in one room, getting one line of info in real time. If you're not there, you don't receive it. And if someone else you are friends with is talking in another room, you won't get that either. So I really don't think IRC is a good example. Some people do carry out brief conversations, which is annoying, moreso because I'm sometimes one of them, and wish a side-line twitter chatroom would be possible, separate from tweets.

  • Thanks very beneficial vlog

  • Thanks for watching.

  • great video on twitter. Now how do you get the lights off ikon on this video...mikma was here

  • I have no idea about that icon, Mik. I spend so little time over here that I didn't know what you were talking about until I went and checked. Thanks.

  • It sounds like we can expect some PSAs like, "This is your brain, This is your brain on Twitter. Any questions?"

  • i love twitter, im mu301nh follow me! :-)

  • Twitter is a great program no matter where i am i can twitter with everyone. its way better then regular text messaging.

    cool video !

    **Kisses**

  • OH, YEAH, SONIA GETS TWITTER!

Hey, good to hear from you!

  • I've been wondering lately.. where did the fail whale go?

  • And, as you know, that is no mean accomplishment. That platform has become very reliable, under a very steady rise in traffic. I've still got a fail whale t-shirt to prove I was there!

  • Love the phone call!

  • Reality TV at its finest.

  • lol agree.

  • Normally I wouldn't be so picky, but since it concerns your explanation about Twitter I'll just have to be picky now :P

The @ is called "at-sign", and not ampersand. The ampersand is the & sign. So on Twitter you use the @-sign to address a Tweet to someone in particular. :)

  • No, you are absolutely right to be picky and correct about my error. Ampersand and at sign are completely different. Thanks.

  • But I think people understand what you mean, with the screenshots and all. :)

  • Yeah, I think so too. You spend a lot of time over there?

  • I'm just diving into twitter and immediately see the value in it (actually I knew about this video from your tweet and came to yt to comment) in all kinds of ways. I've been watching the phenomenon for several reasons on a premise I'm thinking about.

Actually I've been thinking of bouncing some ideas off you.

  • Hey, jr, I smiled when I saw you'd Followed me on Twitter. Good to hear from you. Interesting that you got here as a result of that tweet. Ideas? Bounce away. Email me.

  • Basically I'm a blogger at heart and I was seized with the idea of blogging and micro-blogging right away with Twitter. It's now causing a spark to vlog again. I'm just experimenting with Twitter right now and am pretty clueless, this vid helped quite a bit! (I may borrow and credit it in a blog!)

on that note my thoughts are around a possible microtrend I'm noticing and online social networking. I'll send email.

  • Well, I'm a blogger, too. At least that's where I started.

    Borrow away! It's the Internet.

    Look forward to your email.

  • twitter isn't a "flash in the pan" in that they'll disappear as fast they appeared as the timeline of their growth indicates a certain amount of stability, nonetheless they will not be able to monetize their service like Yahoo, Google and eBay.

twitter may be exiting, but being such a blunt tool, their monetization prospects are really not exiting at all. hence, they are not a company that will contribute significantly to market capitalisation like Google and co.

  • Well, obviously a lot of people with a whole lot more money than you or I have feel differently from you. Twitter just picked up another $35 million and could probably raise as much money as they wanted to, even in this market. So, I'm goin' with them on this one.

  • well, i said they're not as significant as some other players like Google, who in today's terms picked up allot more than what Twitter have in their stage of growth Twitter are in now, and contributed allot more to the internet.

i think they'll be able to make ends meet, and perhaps see some cash through for its investors on an acquisition deal, but otherwise its not all that exiting from then on.

  • Hi Tom, I left my big reply to this video over on Vloggerheads, but I'm going to let the YouTube version roll so you get the view here too.

Thanks again for showing me the search site, I didn't know about that. Have you checked out hashtags org?

Also, I created a video responding to your question about whether people trust the words of public figures and the short/longterm implications. No rush to view but I wanted to make you aware it is there since it's a response to your twitter.

  • Thanks, PSM, I'll check out the response. Appreciate the view!

  • This is why I love twitter. Usually when I am on my laptop it means I am doing class work. It gives me the option to take a QUICK break, socialize and then shift back into work. For me to invest a lot of time watching videos is not an option for me right now. Work, grad school and raising a teenager/maintaining a household is enough to kill a lot of extra free time.

  • It is a nice way to stay in touch with people/things you care about. Go Flyers!!

    8^)

  • LOL... until next year, until next year!

  • It's past my bedtime but I'll be back tomorrow to put in my tuppence !

  • Impressed that you're still able to type at this hour in the UK! Hi to Brian.

  • I check in on Twitter but since I get very little response, I've lost a lot of interest in it.

  • Comment removed

  • Great explanation for the people that are still unfamiliar or hesitant to use the service.

There's one tiny correction I can't resist to make: you don't have to be mutual followers for the DM's anymore. This used to be the case indeed, but as of recently you can DM anyone who follows you.

  • Hi! Good to hear from you. Thanks for that correction.

  • 22 minutes? Shouldn't you have been able to explain it in 140 seconds or something?

  • I decided to just let myself wander for a change! Thanks.

  • BTW - your phone sounds exactly like ours. Panasonic?

  • Bingo. Old system but still works well. Batteries suck but other than that. Your experience similar?

  • Very informative tlg847. Ive always wandered about twitter.

    Regards,

    Zen

  • Well, maybe everyone's on to something!

  • i dont take much interest on twitter, i hate how everyone went to vlogger heads
