  • This is such a favorite of mine. A real turn on to see after all these years. I used to play their album to death. (on cassette, lol)

  • @breath888 in the days & format when you really could play em to death. afterall u can only superglue a snapped tape ribbon so many times.......

a blinding tune though yes :)

  • @goosepeuk

:-) I totally spliced my tapes all the time!

  • @breath888 haha it takes a special sort to know the ways of the splicing one......who cares if a chorus goes or a few words get missed here and there.......just sing through those bits LOUDER :)

  • @goosepeuk Yes! One time I spliced a tape so well (with magic tape for wrapping gifts) that it never skipped a beat! What a music lover will do for her tunes!

  • @breath888 excellent, my secret was super glue, i once removed an entire song from one of my older sisters albums...........im trying to remember what song it was :)

  • @goosepeuk

Actually, that would have been a great practical joke to play on my own sister! Wish I'd thought of that!

  • one of the pioneers of reggae and their from my hometown :)

  • Sit UBU, Sit! Good Dog! Woof!...lol

  • pukka tune,love the old ones x

  • 40 is loved in the Caribbean. Since this band started, we recognized where they are coming from. They are well respected in the industry.

  • Toooooooooooooooo faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast !!

  • Nothing fake comes from Birmingham, bankrupt maybe, fake never!

  • First record I ever paid full price for what a double a side with "Food for thought" .Haters say fake , others are skanking

  • the best ,

  • For me this is the 1980's. Great music, great sentiment and a band that were never really truely appreciated by all. Saw them at Solhull Technology College for 50p. They were great then and great now. The words say it all. CLASS!

  • Why do people search a song on you tube then click the dislike button? #just asking!

  • i really like listening to ub40. hope u bring a new album out fingers x

  • Still as relevant now as then, how very, very depressing.

  • What a great tune

  • lol I know what you need...I got everything you need

  • One of my dad's favourite song's of all time, he loved this band.. R.I.P Dad 09-08-1966 - 05-08-2011

  • These guys were for real, singing about the shit they were living. Don't anyone knock it who wasn't there. You'll see it again soon enough, and worse....

  • fucking ub40 wot the fuck....lol the best group to cover and make there own tunes ever,,,,i loooove you ub40 xxx

  • love ub40 been since i listen

  • So true, as relevant today as 1981, though not officially!!!! It's utterly ridiculous what is expected of you to find a job, and what you have to write to find a job

  • I am the one in FIVE

  • These guys were brilliant, IMO on a par with the Specials!

  • @teapotstrikesback Bold claim, teapot but I accept it. The two-tone label bands and UB40 changes my world. I've never forgotten the messages and I wish our children had parents that would draw attention to such exceptional lyrics and on top of that, a skanking good dance beat. Thatcher was a bitch but she inadvertently birthed ska part2. Yay.

  • @teapotstrikesback No, much better than the Specials!

  • The "crusade" in Libya (never supported democratically by the British people ) has cost US (the British people) more than would be nec essary to give OUR young people a good start in life.

The entire British system is since twenty years horrifically undemocratically FOUL.

    And very un-British.

British for me means : Magna Carta! (If you don't know what this is then - shame on YOU! (Look it up on Wikipedia.)

  • @MsBarking smoke a spliff and chill out enjoy the music ..........jeez

  • 22 police lol

  • wtf just one million views?

  • rw

  • 30 years later - ES40 One in FIVE 2011

  • centntral high school for boys longsight you all know this song boys top tune

  • UB40 is the reason why I am proud to be from Birmingham

  • If they had spent less time making music and more time in the job center they may have had a better chance getting a job .

  • @MrHiltonCubit They have a job and that's being singers

  • @Kaynas1988 Then they can not be a one in Ten...Unless they are benefits cheats

  • @MrHiltonCubit what's the song got to with having a job

  • @Kaynas1988 Because in the early 80s the statistic for unemployment was one person in every ten . The name UB40 is the name of the document you would be given if you where unemployed.

  • @MrHiltonCubit Oh, now I understand, I wouldn't of known that coz I was born in the late 80's

  • worse in uk today than 30 yrs ago ..... the words continue more and more to speak volumes

  • ub40 are the best in music history !

  • wot legends ub40 r

  • I am the One In five, A number on a list, I am the one in five ,Even though I don`t exist ,Nobody knows me, Even though i`m always there, A statistic, a reminder, Of a world that doesn`t care, the rich are getting richer, the poor keep getting poorer, the police cant control this, supposed law and order, my country attacks countries, by bombing from the border, i am a 1 in 5 ub40 would sing words of wisdom but nobody listens

  • What an amazing song!!! Means as much today as 30 yrs ago

  • more statistics added to the list in these here times, unemployment on the rise.

  • if you cant relate to this song you are dead inside

  • greatest song eva !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • UB40 lost with the MIdiclick and triggering the drummer in the late 80s ;o)))

  • listern to this song 20 years on and is now 1 in 8 is it ever going to get better people slag theis song off but do thay really listern to the words its all about mass uneployment as we are seeing today

  • Great great Band for two or three Years, but then they became Rubbish, but the first two albums are classic!

  • I'm like 14 and love this song 

  • Genuinely love this song. Heard this alot when i was a kid.

  • first song ub40 brought out,1in 10,they came just as bob was leaving us and they gave us all asmile to put back on our faces

  • nice, the sax player is wearing an angels jersy.

  • This is not fake reggae. To say so is utter ignorance. This is English. This is working class people singing about life in the UK. Nothing to do with what is going on in Jamaica. If you don't recognise this as pure UK (WITH its immigrants) you are a fool.

  • bring back good times

  • true song o the times. Quality. the youth of 2day has not got a clue they want it all on a plate

  • true song o the times. Quality

  • One of the greats

  • 1 love from greece...

  • One in five young people out of work or never had a job, and yet the Government tries to dictate that we all work on into our seventies! Let the older ones who have done their bit in the workplace retire and make room for the younger ones coming up - sound sensible? - it does to me!

  • Ok, this band did go a bit too far into mainstream Pop with their cover versions towards the end of their career. That said, who can doubt that this is a masterpiece even now some 30 years on. In fact this track and their song; Don't Let It Pass You By still rock massively and reveal the shit state of the world we're being forced to endure because of the greed of a few!

  • Amazing!!

  • this is happening again, goverment still cant get it right.

  • @duranasty

    i ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU

  • @duranasty goverment talk the talk but musicians will always relate to the people.thats the art of bein in music.making it so we can relate and enjoy ourselves.

  • sick tune

  • Absolutely love this tunee!! its epicc

  • Good odds...

  • I went to Wolverhampton Polytechnic between 1979-1982, and UB40 used to play there at least once a week LOL. I saw them dozens of times before this became a hit.

Great days... brings back so many memories. And even more relevant today, with so many kids leaving college to find only McJobs or worse.

  • PURE CLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

  • Classic Tune! I remember how tough things were and how so many of my bredren were cast aside by right wing politics. Sadly the tune is as relevant today

  • best ub40 song

  • Lyrics should be added here - important

  • brings back memories of Ealing common pubs and clubs uptown

    1981: great year

  • @noturningbackiran wernt even born then gutted :( missed loads of legendary acts :(

  • and reggae organ stab............the tits!!!!! witha street with no trees

  • the best lyrical song ever written supported by fantastic brass yeah

  • i was born too late for thier heyday years but i was brought up with a healthy respect for this band by my dad and now i thank him for it

  • I was raised to UB40 and its such a shame that even now to this day the people of BIRMINGHAM and the UK are facing massive cuts, lack of jobs and inner city ghettos its about time this council and government did something for BRITISH PEOPLE instead of taking us on a crusade of the middle east and africa!

  • @lilililillilililil Well said.

  • fake reggae,? the sad symptoms of ecessive LSd

  • Got me through the the Maggie Tatcher years.

  • I don't care what anyone says i grew up when this band were at their best and no matter how many months or years pass between listening to their music it brings back great memories and will never be seen as fake reggae in my eyes.

  • @InfinateAtom True. Back in the day they were seen as a really credible and respected band. Always takes me back to my army and boxing days in Cardiff.

  • @InfinateAtom so true, they by far are one the best Reggae band ever. period. how i miss those days! REGGAE LIVES!!

  • @KingMyron23 not even the best british reggae band .. sorry aswad was a better british reggae band listen to aswad african child song and steel pulse as well .. UB40 was accepted by main stream because of their cross over style and racial mix ..i rate them very highly but not as best reggae band ..even this song os a cover .just the lyrics changed ..

  • @InfinateAtom No es Reggae falso... pero si es Reggae COMERCIAL !!! NO RASTAS !! y algunas son buenas y otras no, SOLO QUE SON REGGAE COMERCIAL, AL IGUAL QUE INNER CIRCLE Y BIG MOUNTAIN. Bless !

  • @InfinateAtom ditto :)

  • @InfinateAtom fake reggae.... I know what you mean. Some called it commercial reggae... this is steppers with real feeling grown from real influence so big up to the chops they can't feel because they are deaf.

  • @InfinateAtom These guys had respect for Reggae and made it assessable for Bromies and ultimately white Britain. Its not their fault they are the biggest selling reggae band. Bob Marley is very inspirational in regards to Reggae. UB40 understand this and this is why they are true to Reggae Roots. Infinate Atom you might be interested in checking out 2 good Irish acts who also write from their heart about real issues. Bionic Rats and RRá

  • @InfinateAtom iys ska/reggea combination

  • @InfinateAtom I was a teenager in the 80's and UB40 was then at their best. Its nice music to listen too and defenitely nog fake reggae ;) There is also music from this decade that is crap but still it can give memories if you grew up then ;) So you just enjoy UB40 !!

  • @InfinateAtom i never knew they called it fake reggae, i grew up with this too. bob marley to me then ub-40. all reggae to me

  • @LegaliseUK JLS? JSA is what it about lol

Death to the new world odor!

  • great music........amazing in fact, the lyrics actually mean something!!!

  • A huge influence on the re-awakening of reggae. UB40 added a unique twist to the sound and bought a whole new generation around to the sound. Simply brilliant :)

  • @Leon962 Right on. I live in Hawaii and UB40 and Bob Marley are the gods of Reggae and gave birth to what is now known as Jawaiian music. It'

s awesome. Their influence can be heard in almost every Jawaiian song. Look it up.

  • 20 people accidently pressed dislike cause they are moorons :P

  • Ain't that right, Marky and Pasture....

  • UB40 want to re- release this tune and remind the goverenment that we are in the shit yet again 30 odd years after UB40 first released this so they went signing on every week as there WERE and still ARE NO JOBS OUT THERE!!!!!!!

  • @awallin01 misinterpreted me....oh well...AND WOT?!

  • @MRFUCKINBROWN no i didnt i know what you meant and i proved you wrong also cameron is using thatcher tactics sas shows and a war for oil wow history is repeating and your blind to see it

  • @awallin01 what have you got to say now hey the unions biggest march since thatcher i told you i was right cromwell never made parliament for the people to be second class citizens we need too bring back mass production and put the great back in britain the cheek of it spending public millions on another war and voting for mps too get more expenses wheres my expenses its time to learn we need this revolution trying to sell the NHS this is part of thatchers final solution lets stop it 1ce + 4all

  • @awallin01 Irish!

  • @nursesam777 why are you saying irish too me i have intelect but i dont understand what your point is

  • @awallin01 look calm down before im reduced to ventin my anger on yer..i know who and what thatcher is, id made an assination plot for her by the tim i was 12...despised in my heart...so read reread...use some inteligence and realise uve been screaming whle iv been whispering, the same song

  • @MRFUCKINBROWN dont insult my intellect the last sentance of your opening paragraph was very misleading dont point no anger at me you see what way im heading use your anger for the up and coming marches the coalition is thatcher if your by my side and everyone elses fighting the virus that is torys then i look forward to the future that we can create as our goverment has shown in libya actions speak louder than words it is time for us all to start using actions after all there our role models

  • @awallin01 btw to quote the late and fantasticly great fatman... success is going from one mistake to another without losing enthusiasm....pretty much my life story

  • @MRFUCKINBROWN i dont think i misinterpreted the part where you say she dragged us kicking and screaming into the tech age maybe you quoted it off some source but it looked very much like a patrionising comment by all accounts threaten me i couldnt give two fucks i fear no pussy but if your part of the new revolution fair play and im sorry im just so use to people not seeing the perspective of the working class i took the presumption you were not standing by my side but infront of me my bad

  • without thatcher and poverty there couldnt have been a ub40, art thrives of sh1t cos its all that remains of dignity, the ability to shout no matter how quietly...hey chavs..go look who created u, google maggie thatcher..there is no such thing as society...hmm there was in my mining village...wouldnt be youtube if it wasnt for thatcher she dragged us kickin and screamin into the tech age :s

  • @MRFUCKINBROWN wow what a load of bull shit the internet is a system to use in case of nuclear disaster nut is used for cuunversation and media in the meanwhile you think by getting rid of a job for life is good you think that not having a say(unions) is right that bitch banished all that so the goverments had puppets on a string you know that is bullshit at least the french still have say in there own life also if having no ub40 meant people having a job for life then so be it i say dark ages

  • Talk about "Olde School"

  • did you know half of the worlds riches is owned by 2% of this free world ha what a joke thatcher you really screwed us up we as country need to manufacture our own produce again= more jobs/careers plus we will have more export and therefore revenue why did that woman walk this earth i think lucifa is her name no such thing as a job for life your living up to it big time know there no jobs for a few months yet alone for life as the east rises the west is falling into the dark ages once again
