@actionfighters I'll agree that some old trailers aren't the best, but perhaps you'll find interest in how this film was created. The entire movie was made to be one continuous shot; a movie without editing. Reels were short though, so there are moments where the camera moves past a wall, furniture, or someone's back to have a place to tape the reels together. The rooms were constantly being moved for the camera. If you are willing to take 5 minutes, check this out: watch?v=UOLCtLAyXEk#t=177s
@Jeffredo729 If you can get past the 50's look of the productions, Hitchcock blows away today's crap on every other level. And his productions were the best during his day. People are still talking about his classics and his stars. Nobody will remember today's filmmakers even 10 years from now.
@rm9511 I think it would be kind of a "time capsule" type experience for me to see the cars and styles of those decades. Should be enjoyable in addition to the great film making of Hitchcock's. There are so many and I think the only one I ever saw was Vertigo about 20 years ago on TV (needless to say I can't remember it).
many gay hints in this movie - based on real gay friends who were trailed for this Murder. Like the housekeeper tells them they did woke up on the wrong side of the bed. they menthioned "the bed room" - meaning there is only one in the house. Brendon's living place is not really mentioned but its obvious they live together
To those of you concerned that they might remake it, DON'T worry. Rope doesn't have enough car chases, explosions and naked chicks to be deemed worthy for a remake. Unless they can find a way to put them in somewhere...
Heavens to Murgatroid! This was awesome! I'd never seen the trailer to "Rope" before. Fascinating how they had the scene of the young couple on the park bench....but which is not seen in the film. The poor victim in the movie only gets about 30 seconds of screen time before he's stuffed in that chest! One of my favorite movies....mostly because of the dynamite cast. Farley Granger & John Dall are PERFECTION in their roles. Very underated actors...rarely were they given roles this complex.
Yeah, they certainly give away a lot, too. I bet someday we'll be laughing at the trailers of today as well. In fact some of them are ludicrous even now.
@elleoneiram Yeah, that's why some trailers such as the one for Inception or Cloverfield are, for me, really the best. They don't give away much or they mislead you... which is nice. Not like "Charlie St Cloud" lol where you don't even need to go watch the movie since you've seen it all in the preview
@elleoneiram you are looking at it all wrong..this trailer didn't give away anything...the essence of this film isn't who kill who...but the story around it and the way this film was shot...and many other things..
@MoFyaah You're probably right. Sometimes people who haven't seen a film think that a trailer gives the whole movie away, but those who have seen it know that's not so. Still, some trailers, both then and now, really do explain way too much. Voiceovers in particular can be killers.
@elleoneiram I know but you have to take the context of that time into consideration..I love old trailers...and the voice over brings certain charm...I am just old fashioned i guess...+ this is my 4th favorite Hitchcock film...;)

The name isn't The Rope... is Rope without the article 'the' 'cause Hitchcock defined all the movie as a secuence shoot... even in the name.

I remember renting this. Until I saw Gerry (2002) The Rope was the most boring thing I had ever seen in my life.

james stewart in this film sorta reminds me of Joseph Gordon Levitt from Inception

this was the only film james stewart did not like with Hitchcock's. he said that he was miscast as the investigator.
