This is Merle Haggard at the top of his game. "Okie from Muskogee" was one of my mom's faves. Kinky Friedman does a hysterical parody of it, "Asshole from El Paso," which is more than worthy of a listen. As for the original, I was 15 before I realized there really was a town called Muskogee, Oklahoma. To this day I still sing "The Fightin' Side of Me," which I like even better than "Muskogee."
