Thic quang duc was master monk being able to push thru meditations of 16 hours daily and yes this video is an act. My theory was that he could separate mind and body to a very high degree. This is defiantly a reenactment. The full burning lasted around ten mins and he did flinch in the beginning, but only because its human to do so.

The burning had almost zero news coverage since the us embassy was bombarded with so many requests from the monks everyday that they didn't know what was legit and what wasn't, so sadly only short clips of the burning were caught and preserved

This is simply a murder. The monk was drugged, gasoline was poured on him, and someone else lighted up the fire. This is no more than a propaganda stunt a la Al-Quaeda style but much more effective to draw sympathy and attention given the situation back then. What I don't understand why the cops did not interfere, self-immolation or not.

Even this clip here shows that another monk poured the gasoline. And if you watch frame by frame, you can see that at the time the fire started, the hands of the "self-immolated" monk was clasped together and held still, no movement. There was no way he can strike a match. I am sure that had this happened in the US, this would be ruled a homocide.

I heard this is just a reenactment of the event and not an official video as one wasn't taken, not confirmed if one was or not though. I have to agree because of a few things though. The film style for one, seems very hollywood esque for what would have been an amateur camera man. Second, the car and set up just seems off if you think about it from the other side of the street where the pics of have been taken.

The hated leader of S Vietnam was arrested & killed later that year & there can be little doubt that this burning was a big rallying call for the revolt.

I don't think this is Thich Quang Duc either. At 2:07 the body falls over. From what Ive read about Thich Quang Duc his body didnt fall over until the flames were almost out. The fire could still go on if he's fully immolated.
