when I see how water is sprayed into the air, I must say that those people have no clue about permaculture management. This sort of irrigation is a bloody waste of water. And the plants grown there are for sure not what would grow there naturally. Israel has exploited the jordan river (only a few percent are left for irrigation). I'm curious about how long they will keep up their highly outdated agriculture techniques.
@AlMayer1100 Well if it makes you feel better, Jordan and Syria also exploit the Jordan River and uses highly ineffective agricultural techniques. You must share the blame equally between the three nations, not just Israel.
Geoff Lawton has a much better video much more deserving of the title "greening the desert." In that... he actually greens a desert in that video, and shows you how he did it.
Definitely, Israel needs to put an end to the desert lest the desert put an end to the state. But using very salty aquifer water eventually will create a foul desert that will require a thousand years to recover! Unless, of course, they adopt Permaculture which is a method of horticulture that mixes different species including nitrogen-fixiers and relies on harvesting rainwater. This is being done in Jordan click on Greening the Desert with Geoff Lawton in the sidebar and go on from there.
@amommamust Palestine is also "greening". They are discovering the joys of organic farming as that is their only option as the only fertilizer available is Israel produced to be no good for bombs, turns out it is no good for fertilizing either... but organic farming is good for everyone. Hooray!
@BezusLives - Palestinians have lost lots of their organic farms cause of the conflict there. there's even been films about it, like The Lemon Tree. i got some fair-trade organic olives from Palestine and they were the best ever.
I disagree. We must respect local customs. People have survived in deserts for thousands of years. The indigenous peoples in the Sarah, Sonoma and Gobi all survived off of the desert. The indians who lived for hundreds if not thousands of years in what we call death valley would completely object to us coming in and greening everything. We cannot simply come in and say we are going to green the whole desert. It depends on what the local people want.
most deserts are man made or at the very least man-worsened. humankind, including indigenous cultures has had a fairly negative effect on it's surroundings for thousands of years.
in some cases like in hawaii they came close to destroying themselves through deforestation but then realized their error and changed their culture to become sustainable.
greening the deserts of the world would benefit everybody including the desert dwellers. just ask them if they would rather a desert or an oasis.
they will say an oasis, like any human being will. we even have more green receptor cells in our eyes than the red or blue. we are wired to prefer green.
They had to live in scarcity. Nobody is saying to eradicate or endanger desert species only that in high population deserts that are over cultivating and have destroyed the soil... the desert is growing faster and faster and needs to be contained and reversed.
with all respect, local customs can include female circumcision and burkahs. Customs can violate the earth as well as human and animal rights, and should not be respected across the board, religious or otherwise. Everything should be considered on a case to case basis.
Permaculture. The first youtube search result of that word is what will literally save the world.
But we must respect desert cultures. There are valid reasons that they hold for living the way they do. But options must be provided, simply, and permaculture can provide those options.
Thank you for your opinion on this matter. We welcome all opinions on our videos as long as they are not offensive in content. Thank you for your mature disagreement.

HELPING NATURE FOR BETTER CLIMATE
Use mighty power of nature
In the northwestern Australia, we have huge tides,
huge deserts, huge evaporation and huge dry rivers and lakes.
Huge 12m tidal erosion can revive old dry paleo dormant once mighty rivers, creeks and lakes,
desalinate the country and change deserts to rain forests to provide more rain across Australia
World population is growing rapidly and we need more energy, food, land and water.

I don't like how he starts off with propaganda.
And why is there a gap? Seems to me it's Jews who don't like Christians.

interesting. I doubt though this is a real greening of the desert, and definitely not a "green" or sustainable one.
Brackish fossil waters stressing plants: many aspects that do not sound god to me, neither are plastic green houses-
Geoff Lawton's permaculture approach is in my opinion, the right way to go greening the desert
