@dam417 Buy low, sell high. They shift supply from a time and place when there is too much supply/too little demand (low price) to a time and place when there is too little supply/too much demand (high price).
@dam417 That's what speculating is though. Another example would be oil futures. Oil suppliers and manufacturers that need oil want to buy oil futures to ensure a certain level of stability in the price of their product/purchase. Speculators take on the risk by trading these futures so that suppliers/manufacturers (that need energy) can have less risk and ensure a certain price level for oil. Oil speculators are creating value regardless of the opinion of Obama.
im a soulless young american hell bent on making lots of dough. i feel this way because of gordon gekko michael dogulas. i say gordon gekko quotes all the time at my office and the boss likes it.
Yeah too bad in this neo corporate fascist state we now live in If you don't do it right not only don't you get eliminated, you get bailed out by the tax payers.
The Greed is Good line, is kinda taken out of context, they need to show Gekko's full speech. People think greed is a sin, greed is why people work or why people don't. Greed is not a bad thing, when someone is in the middle of the desert alone desperately looking for a glass of water, its his greed that allows him to find it. Look up Milton Friedman sometime.
I can't stand a lot of Oliver Stone's movies because they, more often than not, have a central theme. Government good. Corporations bad. History has proven this to be a complete falsity, yet clowns like James Cameron and Oliver Stone still make these friggin' movies.
Look up the controversy behind a movie that is due to come out next month called ATLAS SHRUGGED. Because a movie breaks the paradigm of GOVERNMENT GOOD CORPORATION EVIL means it shouldn't be made? WTF!!?
@efhve Guys, you are all smart american elites. Come to Shanghai China please if you are greedy. We don't say we make ¥1000, ¥10000, or ¥100000. The money we can make for any above average professional financial investor is counted in millions. The bubble here is huge and the only party in China will guarantee it won't bust at least in 10 years.
@bbear1994 exactly, perhaps, but what if you're cruising in a comfort zone in your late twenties living off private income and are burned out from drugs, then alcohol the past few years. Riddle me that Batman, what if you didn't have to do anything at all yet still live with modest but decent middle class bullshit and not have to do a goddman thing. What do you then? Huh? And what the fuck do you do for a living anyway? Whats my motivating factor here because I can't see a way out.
I'm glad we're agreeing on some things, but again I don't think greed is the word you're looking for. Hunger, drive; these are better words for what you mean. Greed is by definition taking more than you need, it describes someone who lives in excess. Think of food, would you call someone greedy if they ate a fairly reasonable amount? No. Greed only applies to those that over-consume.
Capitalism is not the idea that you can commit fraud without any consequences. That's implying that no law exists to make trade fair, and respectable to begin with.
@bbear1994 Greed is irrational selfishness - i.e selfishness to the point of self-destruction and destruction of others. Greed can be considered acts of fraud, and theft.
@Kingpourri I've got a real job you dumbass. Trading is just a second job i love to do and i do it whenever i want after my PC with a cheap bank with cheap transaction costs. And this year I've probably made more money than you recieved after 10 years of hard working. Well your comment only says that you're a frustrated dickface so fuck off pls...
@sicilianosono Yeh good one you poor immigrant. Im the CEO of my own company so Im pretty sure you wouldn't make more money than me. In the meantime fuck off.
You don't seem to understand what greed is. The "good" side of greed you describe is better described as diligence. From Dictionary . com:
Greed - excessive or rapacious desire, especially for wealth or possessions.
Diligence - constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken; persistent exertion of body or mind.
Working hard to achieve a goal can be a great thing, but you don't seem to have goals in mind other than making money. Money in itself is useless, so why bother?
I'm not even American, so no I didn't vote for Obama, not that that matters. You still haven't explained why greed is good, all you've said is that you want $200,000+. What do you intend to do with that money? Are you saving for something in particular? Will you be happy with $200,000? $300,000? $400,000? When will you have enough money to be satisfied?
@LaCorvette You lost your mind when you masturbated with a palm full of butter and your dead Grandma's hair. You know, this Godfather worship will end where the Godfather and Gordon Gekko both ended. Save yourself while there is time.
