  • What scale were you using when you first started playing?

  • @Shug964 Hey!! I was not playing any scale but jazz lines -with chromatic approaches and other elements.

  • What are you playing??

  • I have no idea... :)

  • Well it sounds wonderful. Very clean, very decisive, very good.

  • Thanks a lot!

I was actually fooling around some jazz lines, modes and pentatonic scales in different keys - I wasnt playing anything in particular, just improvising freely. Feel free to check out some of my other videos that you can find in my channel. Or my Myspace site at: /andresrotsessionmusician

    Best,

    Andres

  • @andresrot Were the reasons for you to sell this bass finacial or just because it wasn't doin' in it for you anymore?

  • @andresrot Oops... Never mind, just read the description.

  • amazing playing and amazing bass

  • Not that I could afford one, but are big hands a must to play a Warwick bass? I have tiny hands, although I am no slouch on a five string bass, I heard that Warwicks have massive necks, so far the American deluxe Precision 5 string has been the biggest one I've played. Are Warwicks much bigger? (music stores in my area don't carry them)

  • Warwicks have thicker necks than fender or musicman basses. I don't think its a problem, it comfortably fills your palm and it feels very sturdy. I use warwicks and have normal hands, no problem. If you have very short fingers you should try one first though. Or just get a 4string.

  • My Warwick Thumb Bass has a little distortion if I finger the strings a little harder than I usually do. Anyone knows what can that be?

  • yeah it the *batteries..they are on the way out..

  • I just bought and installed new ones. The problem is still present, I'm going to buy a new set of strings to see if it gets a little better.

  • the amp has not enough power? try turning the volume down... when I play with my band and i turn the volume at 10, if I play hard i also get distortion, but, it sounds perfect when I play at 5 or 6...

  • It was a volume problem. I am not using an amp though. I Use a program called Garage Band on the iMac. I use my headphones as speakers. I solved the problem, but this Thumb BO 5 still sounds much better than mine Thumb BO 4.

  • I think a thumb bass sounds best played with the THUMB.

I do have one myself, a 4 string NT, and believe me, it's not called a THUMB bass for nothing. The sound is way more clear, you think your Les Claypool when slapping that bass.

  • man you can literally hear jaco EVERYWHERE! loving the chops brotha!

  • whats the diffrence in a thumb bass?

  • yeah... i'd love a thumb bass... if only it wasn't 5 grand

  • Thumb Bolt On is closer to $1800

  • Maybe you can migrate to Europe, I paid 2400 euro's for my Thumb NT 4 New.

  • nice sound!

  • i like the way warwicks sound playing jazz even more than a fender jazz (i do have both)

  • i want a warwick bass...but its to expensiv:(

  • if you really want a certain bass its always worth it to save up for it.

i saved up for my 5 string stingray, and i do not regret it.

  • how much would warwick cost in dollars or euros? (Euros easier for me to count cause i use em XD)

  • It all depends on the model....the bass in this video is a Warwick Thumb B.O, probably about $2300, but you can get them cheaper used.

  • A Warwick Corvette is about €700.. That is payable if you work all summer long =]

  • donna lee?

  • i want it so bad

  • What a great sound, a beautiful instrument as well.

I'm thinking about getting the BO, it's great sounding and it's half the price of the NT!

This bass will take a while to save up for

  • I am getting mine in 3 days! I cant wait. I hope you get yours soon. Warwicks are a sound investment. Just ask my double buck...

  • I hope I get mine soon too lol.

4 grand will take a while to save up, but I think I changed my mind, I might get the corvette 5 instead since it's around 2800$ cheaper if I'm correct.

Well, cograts on getting a warwick!

  • You can probably get a Warwick Thumb Neckthrough for like $1500 on ebay. Although it's going to be used. Still a great deal.

  • All tho, I am considering the Thumb BO5

  • where do you learn jazz licks like that

  • There are many ways... There is no secret--the only way to go is: practicing... My advice would be try to go to a music school and/or get a good bass teacher and learn harmony and improv.

Take a good jazz ensemble class or learn some jazz standards and play them with some friends. Practice all you jazz lines in the 12 different keys. Hope that helps! All the best

    Andres

  • ive got harmony and improv done well

    its just jazz lines

  • I love the thumb sound.

    Take care,

    Rilo

  • what strings did you use on your Thumb 5? I'm having problems finding good taperwounds that don't munch on my frets... I have that same bass, but mine's a '97; I also have a Fortress 5 as well.

  • I'm not sure what they are but I think they sound a lot like flatwounds because they sound a bit like an upright bass... they sound awesome!

  • Hi there! How are you? I sold that bass, but I used to buy D'addario Strings... 0.40 Take care and thanks for watching

    Andres

  • Amazing sound! How it is the picks config on this? Full 50/50? Or just Bridge?

  • Thanks a lot! That clip was a test of the bass in different pickup positions and EQ s. In the beginning Im using the pickup closer to the bridge cause I like that Mid sound to improvise. I also like playing with my right hand close to the bridge to get a brighter and more clear sound. In the middle and end I think Im using the other pickup more to play grooves with more low end. Take care, Andrés

  • Oh cool, and tell me, when you set just the bridge, does you do some boost on lows to compensate (on bass EQ)?

  • Quality playing sir! Very Jaco-esque. Also a quality bass as we all know. You don't have to sell a thing. Those basses sell themselves. But great playing, and great tone none the less.

  • I am considering buying a new bass...

    I play metal

What do you recommend me to buy: A warwick, a music man or a fender

By the way, I love the sound of that warwick

  • Hi there, I'm more like a Jazz player but I know a lot of Metal players prefer warwick. I'd say buy a 5-String Warwick.

     Take care,

    Andres

  • dude if you want to play metal buy an ibanez BTB or SR... SR505 is a beautiful 5 string bass with 24 jumbo frets, extra thin u-shaped neck and bartolini pu's... it sounds heavenly when you play some heavy stuff on it and it has a beautiful jazz sound too... depending on how you set it up and tune it. it's just a great all around bass at it's best when playing metal

  • Man, go for the Warwick, I have a Musicman, but I consider selling it to buy a Warwick. I thought the sound was a bit too metallic, even though it played good. Looks of people love musicmans, but imo, nothing beats that deep, growly sound, wether be for metal, jazz, funk, rock or anything!

Though I can recommend Fender too, they are versatile and quality instruments! If so, then go for a Jazz bass!

  • Is that you breathing like that??

  • thats pretty sick mna, i love like jazz but my fav genre is metal, but still thats sick

  • wow! first time I've actually seen the floating thumb used correctly! Great playing!

  • Thanks a lot! Take care, Andres

  • Such a beautiful bass.......

  • SELLING? SOLD?!

    dude.

I wouldn't sell my fucking instruments if i was on the street.

they might make me some money playing!

  • I totally agree with you about selling instruments, but right now I'm making money playing an amazing custom made Sukop Bass.... after that there is no going back to any other bass that I've played before. I also don't want to have a nice instrument like the Warwick sitting somewhere without ever being played---plus I needed the money.

    Take care,

    Andres

  • Muy lindo el cuelgue amigo. Abrazo Grande.

  • Sweet playing. I just love the tone of that bass.

  • now thats how you place bass.

  • HOLA ANDRES!BUENISIMO!Ya lo vendiste?sos Argentino verdad?estas viniendo para Buenos aires?yo te lo compro!!jaja

    saludos,muy buenas tus tocadas!

  • Great playing!!!

  • Thanks a lot!!

  • do you have any close up shots? and can u ship to cali? im really interested

  • Yes, andresrot, better wood !

  • Since what time Thumb is being produced?

  • DEfinately not the 80's I guess Basist123 meant that in general electric basses made before the 80's are better... I bought this one new in 1996

  • Well, '70 Jazz Bass is a holy thing, but I like Warwick Thumb Anyway!

  • Very nice bass, but the best basses are made before 80's.

  • if u want to play in the 80's of course, i agree most older basses are great but u can get so much more out of newer basses
