i do believe i heard breakbeat / bigbeat before this album was made. if you want some of the old electronica that this originate from, you should listen to Skinny Puppy, Front 242, and a cpl more from the late 80s to get a better pic of where this kind of music started. Or listen to Kraftwerk if you want to listen to the pioneers :)

Why? I mean, this isn't Coldcut's debut, they are active since the 80s. They may not be the true pioneers like Kraftwerk but meanwhile (25 years later) you could as well call Coldcut pioneers, too. They are very influential and are constantly trying out new things.

BTW, the "true" pioneer that inspired Coldcut the most was Steinski.

Indeed. Chemical Brothers' "Dig Your Own Hole" was about a year earlier (1996) and there was a heap of stuff in around 92-93 which pretty much got the genre started off in not that far off its present form.
