It is so funny that people keep thinking that you are saying this is a correct tolt, and then taking it upon themselves to correct you.
Of COURSE this is not a tolt! This is a strange, pacey walk. That is why it was posted, because it is unusual, and not normal. Gosh people, read before you post.

Pretty fast walk there... but I think you should still engage the head upwards for tolt in order to get more work from the back end. And if you did more balance work, it would become more 4 beated than 2 to help get rid of the pacey-ness. But it sounds to me like you just like to ride easy anyways, so I don't think it's important for you to have to worry about putting your horse in proper position to get the better gate. :)
what ??? your horse was just walking around, its not even tölt its just fet , and it is not even beautiful becuse his head is too low you should hold it up , then he's more proud of himself , he looks like he is sad when you walk him , sorry but its the truth !
if you just keep training your horse so he can be natural
@katrin0210 Hi Katrin, you are right; it's not tolt; it's a pacey walk. About the head, if a horse wants to hold up his head, he will do it on his own, not being forced to do so by the rider, the bit or the reins. Some horses just don't have the conformation to do it naturally. Yes, you can "train" them to do it, but... if it goes against their conformation, what is natural about that? If you see Icelandic Horses at liberty, they will generally have their heads in a neutral position.
@katrin0210 The head should not be "held up" by the rider. The horse should be ridden and trained in a way that it is carrying himself, meaning the hind is stepping under the body and lifting the horse up in the front; just pulling up the head isn't doing the trick. As icehorses said, it's easier with some and more difficult with other horses, also due to their constitution.
Entweder ist das Tierchen ein wenig verspannt und oder es hat Last mit dem zu weit vorn liegenden, die Schulter störenden Sattel und der darauf befindlichen, ihr Gewicht zu sehr nach vorne verlagernden Reiterin.
@weizenbierglas It is a treeless saddle pad, so it is not impinging on the horse. She has a short back, so for the rider to sit further back, she'd be sitting on her loins, not a good thing to do.
isnt that exactly the leg movment like when standards pace?...dont know much about these horses thats just what it looks like to me i know they have the tolt gait to but thats not it so yaaa..inless im missing about lol
My friesan mare used to do that, before we got her i think she pulled a cart and she does that with her back end, i just used trotting poles and often took her over them it soon gets them out of it, she occasionally tries to but if you collect them in and use your legs its okay.
This horse is just falling apart because the rider needs to collect its ft. end and hold it together its not doing any really desirable gait just a swingy walk, which if you collected the horse it would change all together. this horse may also have styfle pain because it drags its hind toes in the dirt. * or its shod, trimed wrong. .watch the dust fly... . ride any gaited horse you need to collect the reins
in sweden you call it "grisepass", i think its the same as "schweinepass" ..
i think the horse is fivegaited? then its a mix of walk/pace, maybe walk/tölt/pace. we have a horse in our stable who is a fivegaited icelandichorse, and he walks just like that ;)
although there are at least a doxxen different names for the different styles, there are only four patterns of foot-fall a horse can be in: WALK-which there are numerous styles of, PACE- very few horses use a true pace, TROT- or a jog, a CANTER-or lope, and the GALLOP
If the gait has four beats and is symetrical, (each side moves the same way) then it is some form of a WALK
im guessing some type of running walk because the gates are like both walking and trotting.. and gates are diffrent paces for example-
walk, trot, canter, and gallop.. T. Walkers dont have trots! the have running walks insted... dont ask me why they have running walks! im just speeking the truth
Based on the description below I'm sure you can see why I would think it was a tolt.
"Tölt is a 4-beat lateral gait, where the footfalls are the same as in walk-left hind-left front-right hind-right front, in an even rhythm. "
My mistake about believing it was specific to icelandics, I've now googled it to get a bit more info! I still think the gait looks like a tolt tho! :-p
the horse is walking - piggy pacing. witch is a very unwanted, uncomfortable and annoying for the rider and bad for the horse. because it's getting stif.. using only the same muscles.. Some say that it's a beautyful horse. I dont get it. it looks bored and lazy and is a bit to fat.

It is walk, but but not "clear to tact" (I don`t know the right word in english :D in german it is taktklar). this horse has a little bit of pace in it`s walk, so it looks like this. It is not special gait. With a lot of work it could get away.
The horse is walking in as "pacelike" walk. Not a good walk. Not pass and certainly not tolt. Horses with five gaits may walk like this sometimes. It is walk towards pace.

Trot
Tölt

Schweinepass indeed.. or camel walk. A very lateral walk. Many gaited horses show this in their foal years.
Also some non/ gaited horses show this, mostly it signifies stifness in those cases. With gaited horses this is not hte case of course!

So why on all these videos is there never the "answer".
If there is a pace tending slung out slow walk gait, then this is it.
MegF142857 2 years ago
The videos are exercises in looking at the gaits, studying them and applying definitions, trying to figure out what they are.
It also gives viewers a chance to put in their opinion and their reason for that determination (altho many do not include a reason).
You can see that there's quite a diversity in how people "see" the gait and name it.
