By the way, I am not a pilot, but I worked for a major US carrier and was involved with flight issues and have flown in the cockpits with veteran pros on B727, 747, 757,767, 707 remember them?; DC 8,9,10. C130, Cessnas (which I did fly), Bell Huey and Sikorsky, and so on. So I have some very good understanding of flight. I am not in anyway disrespecting the crew of this sortie. It is clear in the vid that the left wing was not engaged and only the AF knows why. Will we be told? I think not.

@srimera You are correct, on that right bank there seems to have been a problem or error. Sad for the loss, really. I lived very close to an AFB and would watch mostly with a thrill, sometimes with alarm, at some of the manuvers of all kinds of aircraft which almost seemed so close you could touch them. The aerodynamics of these jumbo planes is awesome, and they are not designed for hot-dogging. If you have never flown in one you cannot imagine the G forces and groanings inside its belly.

The C-17 is truly and impressive airplane. He had it "straight and level". Why not go up to 5,000 feet, where he would have had time to recover from his side-slip stall?

It was horrible and I wished I hadn't seen it in person on the ground that day! Our local RC club has a paved model runway located approx. 600 feet south of the impact site. Nine of us were there flying models and watched the entire flight from take off to impact and it was horrible to see! We were very upset, yet happy to be alive as it hit literally 600 feet from us just behind a small stand of trees after it took out the nearby railroad tracks! My heart still goes out to the families...

the pilot was a dickhead and his actions killed everyone on board. the pilot took the c17a out side of normal flying limits. you can see at 23 seconds when the aircraft enter the lift turn that only the bottom half of the vertical stab has movement. the only way that happens is if the pilot turns off the electronically controlled flight control system commonly called Full Efcs mode and puts it in mechanical control mode.
@14thovi the mechanical mode only to be used for emergency backup in the case of lose of electircal power. A emergancy did not exist at the time the pilot simply felt like beening a hotshot and flying a cargo plane like a fighter. I lost a good friend that day who was the FCC on the aircraft

That whole thing was a stall. I had never seen this video and as soon as he entered the first left turn, I said uh-oh. I thought he had lost it right there and then he entered the right turn and same, he lost altitude and even banked it further??? No surprise there, it totally stalled and fell out of the sky. does anyone have anymore information about this, i know its not the highest quality video but from what i can see there is no aileron correction after hitting what looks like a 70 degree bank angle, and whats worse is that the flaps arnt fully retracted on the left wing even tho they look like they are on the right wing, which if im right would continue to bank the aircraft even more, im not saying its pilot error, far from it, just wondering if it was a systems/hydraulic problem

@srimera You are correct, on that right bank there seems to have been a problem or error. Sad for the loss, really. I lived very close to an AFB and would watch mostly with a thrill, sometimes with alarm, at some of the manuvers of all kinds of aircraft which almost seemed so close you could touch them. The aerodynamics of these jumbo planes is awesome, and they are not designed for hot-dogging. If you have never flown in one you cannot imagine the G forces and groanings inside its belly.

It was horrible and I wished I hadn't seen it in person on the ground that day! Our local RC club has a paved model runway located approx. 600 feet south of the impact site. Nine of us were there flying models and watched the entire flight from take off to impact and it was horrible to see! We were very upset, yet happy to be alive as it hit literally 600 feet from us just behind a small stand of trees after it took out the nearby railroad tracks! My heart still goes out to the families...

the pilot was a dickhead and his actions killed everyone on board. the pilot took the c17a out side of normal flying limits. you can see at 23 seconds when the aircraft enter the lift turn that only the bottom half of the vertical stab has movement. the only way that happens is if the pilot turns off the electronically controlled flight control system commonly called Full Efcs mode and puts it in mechanical control mode.

I thought he had lost it right there and then he entered the right turn and same, he lost altitude and even banked it further??? No surprise there, it totally stalled and fell out of the sky. these soldiers were not in the plane to bomb or deliver supplies it was an airshow. i dont care what people have to say about the U.S. government i agree with half of it. this is about people being disrespectful of the lives lost when it comes to people who die for their country. i know they were not killed in war im not an idiot but at least respect the fact they take the risk and committed to a cause bigger than themselves.

And devenitly in the case of iraq wich was fake the whole way for oil ( everyone knows that stop faking you dont) . So many lifes has been wasted for what?
