Years ago Ford started installing blowers on Cobra's to try and outrun GM's. Now GM is putting blowers on their stuff and Ford is running... back to the drawing board.

I love it but it kinda pisses me off that its so good. I own a 2012 GT500 and 2010 Corvette Z06. Cars are changing so much that there is no continuity. The Corvette was the top Sport Chevy and the Camaro was the poor mans sports car but held its own on the streets. Now the Camaro ZL1 is basically a damn ZR1. They screwed up the continuity and then had to make the ZR1 120k just to make a separation between the 2 sports cars. I guess i'm mad because this Camaro can kick the shit out of my Z06.
@trigger357 I doubt a 500hp ZL1 camaro will smoke your Z06. They both have the same hp yet your vette has a good 650+/- pound advantage. Although a simple pully swap on the blower of the camaro could probably even up the gap.
Everyone's like OMG THE NEW GT500 HAS 650HP OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess what, throw a new pulley on the 6.2 ls and you're making 651hp, while remaining reliable. Throw a new pulley on the gt500 and your making 700 for a week before it grenades. I in no way like the camaro, though. It looks like a lego car imo. Hate them all. I do, though appreciate a quality performance motor. Something that ford can't really succeed at building.

the Camaro might have the independent rear axle but yet the mustang has been out handling the Camaro with its solid rear axel and the only reason Chevy made this car was to compete with the GT500 and the mustang is also lighter than the Camaro not heaver and the only way to tell if it is faster around the track is wait and see.
I wish challengers had the performance of these. Far better looking but get blown away in races. And fall apart easy. And also get lost when taken to the dealership for maintenance (actually happened today).

It will be a never ending battle. If the new gt500 stang in 2013 will have 650hp, then the zl1 Camaro after that will have 680-700. Would rather have the zl1. Everywhere I look I see gt500s. Especially mustangs in general
The zl1 will be slightly faster than the 2012 gt500 and will stand zero chance against the 2013 gt500. The improved aerodynamics alone is going to make that thing too much to handle for the camaro.
i dont like the plastic engine covers they put over engines these days, i like the old fason way when u saw the valve covers and everything , looks alot cleaner

70 horses more in the Mustang and the ZL1 would still take the GT500 on the track any day. The independent suspension of the Chevy would destroy the live axle of a Mustang, and more even weight distribution would be key as well. The Camaro also comes with a high-torque auto transmission for the fastest shifts possible. I think it's funny when people look at sheer numbers and make a comparison immediately. GT500 vs. ZL1 would be an awesome race to watch though :P

I love it but it kinda pisses me off that its so good. I own a 2012 GT500 and 2010 Corvette Z06. Cars are changing so much that there is no continuity. The Corvette was the top Sport Chevy and the Camaro was the poor mans sports car but held its own on the streets. Now the Camaro ZL1 is basically a damn ZR1. They screwed up the continuity and then had to make the ZR1 120k just to make a separation between the 2 sports cars. I guess i'm mad because this Camaro can kick the shit out of my Z06.

@trigger357 I doubt a 500hp ZL1 camaro will smoke your Z06. They both have the same hp yet your vette has a good 650+/- pound advantage. Although a simple pully swap on the blower of the camaro could probably even up the gap.

Everyone's like OMG THE NEW GT500 HAS 650HP OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess what, throw a new pulley on the 6.2 ls and you're making 651hp, while remaining reliable. Throw a new pulley on the gt500 and your making 700 for a week before it grenades. I in no way like the camaro, though. It looks like a lego car imo. Hate them all. I do, though appreciate a quality performance motor. Something that ford can't really succeed at building.

the Camaro might have the independent rear axle but yet the mustang has been out handling the Camaro with its solid rear axel and the only reason Chevy made this car was to compete with the GT500 and the mustang is also lighter than the Camaro not heaver and the only way to tell if it is faster around the track is wait and see.

It will be a never ending battle. If the new gt500 stang in 2013 will have 650hp, then the zl1 Camaro after that will have 680-700. Would rather have the zl1. Everywhere I look I see gt500s. Especially mustangs in general

The zl1 will be slightly faster than the 2012 gt500 and will stand zero chance against the 2013 gt500. The improved aerodynamics alone is going to make that thing too much to handle for the camaro.

70 horses more in the Mustang and the ZL1 would still take the GT500 on the track any day. The independent suspension of the Chevy would destroy the live axle of a Mustang, and more even weight distribution would be key as well. The Camaro also comes with a high-torque auto transmission for the fastest shifts possible. I think it's funny when people look at sheer numbers and make a comparison immediately. GT500 vs. ZL1 would be an awesome race to watch though :P

@1984StangV8 Both cars are going to be sick. To say that the ZL1 sucks before it even hits the streets is hilarious. I've seen both in person and the engineering is more impressive in the Camaro. It wouldn't take much for GM to hit 650+ hp. The GT500 will be running 15+ psi stock, while the Camaro will see less than 10. But I would take either car. When you learn how to spell and use simple grammar, then you can call other people "morons." Fucking moron.
