  • Best fighter plane ever invented. Saved a country, its people and turned the tide of a world war

  • sucks that this plane did so lousy in jap dogfights. cant anything out turn those god damn zeros at low speed!!!!

  • ok not too bad.

  • I have to get to an airshow in the UK where I can see and hear this plane fly past, just so I can get in touch with that era, what a remarkable defence that was put up against the Nazis by pilots from so many nationalities, and that amazing ground to air system the British had the foresight to put in place, remarkable innovation.

  • all the hairs on the back of neck stood up watching this great video

  • We may be in dire straits at the moment as a country, but its things like this which remind you of the pride and love we have for Great Britain.

We've fought off attackers from all parts of the world, united through times of crisis, achieved huge feats of engineering, gained one of the largest empires in the world, the list goes on...

We were great, we are great, and may we continue to be great for many years to come.

  • Bloody Marvelous.

Those were the days, eh peps!! When Britain could work together to make such fantastic products. What ever happened, why cant we do that now??

  • @fuckingpillock British

  • No orchestra in the land can make sweeter music than the Merlin engine. Spitfire-the peregrine falcon with a piston engine strapped to it! Awesome & incredibly beautiful. Many thanks for posting :)

  • @fuckingpillock You mean British? ffs I hate ignorant people!

  • should have cut the wind out while playing music

  • I was out for a drive in my land rover (1970 series 2a) with the roof of with my son and wife in cheltenham down a country road when i heard this sound that i automatically knew and looked up and sure enough it was a spitfire flying over us . so i pointed it out to my boy and we all waved as he came round for a second pass and as we waved he wagged his wings , what a feeling that gave me , i hope my boy remembers it . 2 british icons in one moment wish i was a bystander with a camera . heroesraf

  • Awesome

  • I'm also an ex-matelot and I've heard a lot of fine sounding machinery but you Crabs win with this. There's only one thing better in my opinion and thats a Mossie with 2 Merlins!

    Nice video fuocofly500

  • truely a awsome peice of firepower , and show of force , i know if i came up against one id shit my pants and shout mummy nine nine ern spitfire zes after mien

  • Nice editting to get that Rolls-Royce Merlin 'purring' through the BoB theme.. Also nice to just pick up the Hurricane taxiing near the start of the footage.

  • Yeh...I just watch it again goosbumps and shiver's!

  • I'm Glad you all liked it, must be good if it causes goosebumps and shiver's up spines, must be hitting that emotional spot...

  • The sound of a Rolls Royce engine

    the sound of freedom!

  • The sound of that aircraft is sending a shiver up my spine, tally ho!!!

  • The music kicks in and i get goosebumps all over great video.

  • No doubt about it, the Spitfire is a gorgeous aircraft...and years ahead of it's time as well.

  • The most elegant fighter man has ever built to this day!

  • absolutely beautiful...cant get much better than a spitfire

  • awesome sound!

  • bloody marvalous

  • Thanks awfully old chap.

  • One of these did a very low flyover once on a royal visit. I was fortunate to be right at the front next to the royal party as it went over.

My goodness it was the most beautiful and staggering noise i have ever heard. Videos and soundclips dont to the engine noise any justice. Anyway, good video.

  • Had you liked it keep on watching

  • Tears in my eyes every time I see this video! 5+ rating!

  • I agree

  • loverly vid thanks

  • Looks like a mark 5

The main mark from spring 1941 until early autumn 1942. The fw190A came as a shock in sept 1941 - which led to the mark 9 and later the mark 14 which stayed superior to anything Germany had (except for the ME262 at high speed - it had poor manouverability at lower speeds)

  • I honestly would give my soul to fly one of those machines.

    I truely would.

  • That was awesome buddy....Thanks. I never get sick of seeing the spit doing a fly-by, I get goosebumps with the sound of that Rolls. Just my opinion, but the Spit is without a doubt the most beautiful aircraft ever flown or designed. Keep the video's comin', thoroughly enjoyed!

  • @camelot41992 Yes when I editted it I was pleased with the result. Glad you liked it - Fuocofly 500 - Blaxe Epp Foam Models

  • @camelot41992 ur not the only one i get goosebumps just listening to that SWEET Engine and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up with the spit engine and the music.

  • nice!

  • @100ofhoo thanks

  • This video gives this American gooseflesh, awe inspiring, proud of the UK.

  • @radzai glad you liked it!

  • The Spitfire, that's it..... the most beautiful and the best fighter aircraft of ALL time.

This is actually the Mk V Spitfire, recognized by the three exhaust mufflers and the one radiator under the right wing.

Both sides had great pilots. Johnnie Johnson, Cyril Bamberger, Douglas Bader - a true hero - . Werner Molders, Otto Kittel, Rudorffer, Galand, Barkhorn..... My deepest respects to all of them - no matter the side -.

  • Thank you for your post Nanchuanwushu1

  • @nanchuanwushu1 and sailor malan

  • @yerwotaname : There was a man. Fought against the Nazi's during the war and fought against the racists in South Africa after it.

  • @althesmith yep true legend !

  • @yerwotaname : The character of "Skipper" played by Robert Shaw is based directly on him. Same no-nonsense atitude towards fighting. You're in there to kill the bugger and get the hell home, nothing else matters.

  • Great! Thanks!

  • I remember how dissappointed I was when I first saw a warbird in person. The thin aluminum was a shock.I had always thought the metal was 2 inches thick always hearing about the armor plating. Then my heart jumped into my throat when I realized how vulnerable thes pilots were and I found a whole new respect for them. These boys had nothing but guts and deserve every credit given to them! Lets also remember the boys on those Liberty ships that never made it across the lake.Heroes all!

  • As an American I just want to tell you that I am in awe of what the English and her allies did during the Battle of Britain. This video brought a tear to my eye seeing that gorgeous Spit streaking along with the amazing movie theme behind her. I love Spits, Hurricanes and Mustangs . USA and UK forever!

  • Well thanks alot I'm glad you enjoyed the video and music.

  • God bless you mate ,thanks to the eighth we got througgh

  • As an Englishman, I'd like to say just how much I admire the guts and courage of the American Devastator torpedo bomber crews at Midway - all but wiped out in an heroic action. Also the B17 crews on their daylight raids over Germany. Before the advent of the P51 with long range drop tanks, those guys were shot up real bad.....but they carried on. It seems in that war, heroes abounded. The sound of a Merlin or a Wright Cyclone in full cry will stir me to the end of my days.

  • Comment removed

  • pjmetco,

Thank you for your thoughts. Yes, the sound of a Merlin or a Wright is the sound of liberty. I am also moved by the people of London that endured the nightly bombing raids, that's something Americans were spared. Thank God evil lost that round.

  • My son has more solo flying hours than most BB pilots and he has"nt even got his pilots llicence yet

    Thank them all

  • How's he got all those hours?

  • Damn it, your video just brought a tear to my eye and goosebumps. Fantastic!

  • Well i'm glad it got you soft spot, thanks for the comment.

  • This gave me the an enormous chill down my spine! "Hey, where's my Spitfire! Tally ho!"

  • Polish pilots took out fully 1/8 of all Luftwaffe planes lost during the Battle of Britain.

  • What a sound, what a sound the Rolls Royce Merlin, one of the finest aero engines ever built! So good the Americans built it under licence to power the Mustang. Two of the greatest fighter planes in history.

  • Glad you enjoyed it, I've been surprised on how many hits it's had!

  • Totally agree.

Packard built it under licence and some say you can hear the difference in engine sound.

  • Thanks everyone for your messages

  • Always Remember The Few......

  • My brother and I sat in the cockpit of that very same aircraft, AR501, at Old Warden in 2006. What an incredible experience!

  • By 1945, Wg Cdr Peter Malam Brothers DFC had flown 875 REPEAT 875 operational hours and was credited with having shot down 16 enemy aircraft and damaged many more.

  • Sid Clayton made 100 operational sorties as a Navigator and then persuaded the RAF to send him to train as a pilot in Canada; he came back and made another 45 operational sorties on Mosquitos,

  • well done to the few

  • K J Somerville DFC , AFC RAF Bomber Command flew over 100 operational sorties, most of which were against heavily defended targets.

  • By the time Neville Duke RAF had finished his third tour, completing 486 operational sorties, he had destroyed 27 enemy aircraft and probably three more, making him the RAF's outstanding and highest scoring fighter pilot in the Mediterranean theatre. He was then 22 years old.

  • Johnnie Johnson 515, YES 515 sorties flown, 34 aircraft claimed destroyed with a further seven shared destroyed (totalling 2.91 kills), three probable destroyed, ten damaged, and one shared destroyed on the ground

  • Group Captain Geoffrey Leonard Cheshire RAF flew over 100 opertational sorties,

  • Wing Commander Gibson completed over 170 sorties, involving more than 600 hours operational flying.

  • Group Captain James Brian Tait (nicknamed Willie) DSO and three bars, DFC and bar. Conducted 101 bombing missions during the war, including those which finally sank the German battleship Tirpitz in 1944.

  • THAT LAST COMMENT WAS FOR: hgbutte3.

  • Watch out for the Hun in the Sun :D

  • All credit to the German Pilots , they were excellent .

However they werent British and not fighting for their homeland .

I hope were side by side over Afghan Skies now , youve got to respect quality .

  • @weneedheroesnow: who do think you are? nothing more then a stupid islandmonkey! No one talks about Hitler or Göring! They were just bloody idiots. The best fighter pilots in 2nd world war were germans! Allied pilots: 30 missions, then go home to mom! German pilots: fight the whole war, day after day! They are the real heroes not the allied pilots. Think about sensless fighterbomber attacks against small villages in germany at the end of the war. Killing civilians, thats heroic!!

  • You started the whole "air-raids on civilians" thing by bombing Guernica in '37. Oh, and you lost. And you were assholes.

  • Typical ignorant Hun Twat.

Some RAF fighter pilots undertook hundreds of sorties. 30 sorties was the minimum operational limit for RAF BOMBER crews many of whom went on to fly 100+

  • Hey kraught! They kick your ass, or arse! swine!

  • That we did.

  • The best figthers in WW2 were the Focke Wulf 190 series! They kicks your asses!

  • Tell that to the P-51's that nailed the FW-190's =)

  • who won the battle anyway

  • Grumman F6F-5 Hellcats. The ace makers. FW190's no chance

  • What Aces? Its proofed that german fighter pilots have the most kills in WW2. Erich Hartmann for example: 352 kills! So what? Sissy allied pilots, no courage but big mouthes! And its easy to overrun an almost defeated air force with large numbers of planes and pilots. But anyway we had the best pilots and the better planes. Unfortunately to the end of the war not enough of them. So go home with your boring Hellcat!

  • the Germans and their fighters were good but the truth remains that the allies won so where are you getting your information from clearly it's wrong

  • What happened to your all of your great aces. K.I.A. or just was following a drug addicted fat man or a former corporal's orders. in the end who won. Go a play your video games.

  • The Luftwaffe 'aces' were involved in shooting down eastern European biplanes and other totally outdated machinery, hence their enormous number of 'kills': the RAF pilots were up against 109s and 190s mostly: how many German aces even got into double figures against the RAF and USAF I wonder...;-)

  • British pilots in World War II were great. However there were a few Germanaces that had over 100 victories on the Western front. The best known was Hans Joachim Marseille who had over 250 victories.

  • My apologies over the typo, only 150 victories.

  • speak better english! fool!

  • Leck mich! Du kannst ja wahrscheinlich nicht mal deutsch! Also halt dich zurück, du Penner!

  • who won the war anyway

  • the allies

  • Let's not forget that it took a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine to make the Mustang soar. The Mustang was the work of two brothers.

  • look out for a freindly wing joining you on your starbaord side ('bloody marvalous')

  • cool video. sexy spitfire. not as sexy as the mustang though (yeah im an American so there is a little bias there) :)

  • hey im an american and i would prefer a spit over a mustang anyday

  • we just have different tastes i guess. the spitfire was a interceptor and the mustang was an escort fighter. the both did their jobs very well. at least the Germans didn't have either plane.

  • are you fucking kidding, the spitfire is the coolest ww2 plane, even if it was a pig to land and take off

  • Yeah the mustang is pretty sexy, ok, but the Spitfire saved a country with her beauty, speed, style and firepower too! she is a symbol of our freedom! and independence too!

  • yeah the Spitfire is legit! don't forget about the hurricane lol

  • yeh the hurricaine was more involved in the battle of britain than the spitfire (well in the early days anyway). but the spitfire is more iconic.

i always love going to airshows and seeing the flypast of the lancaster, hurricaine and the spitfire. makes me proud to be a brit

  • the mustang has a very good engine :)

  • yep the merlin made the mustang legit

  • Spitfire NN A is from 310. (českoslovenké-czechoslovak) perutě-squdron... Nice, nice.. Greetings from Czech rep (Pěkné, pěkné.. Pozdravy z České rep.)

  • I'm glad you like it, have you seen and enjoyed my other videos un the name FuocoFly500?

  • I can't imagine what it must be like to be British and see one of those babies flying.

  • i am british and been taught to fly by the great ray hanna the spitfire and it feels good

  • Thanks mate, my uncle flew with 609sqn during the battle.

It's been a long time since I've heard a merlin.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it

  • it's amazing -I am not of the generation of those brave lads who fought in these beautiful fighters -but just the sound of the Merlin engine makes the hairs on the back of my neck go up! -such a emotional thing.

  • Well said oldscout! we owe a LOT to the Hurricane! an unsung hero of the battle of britain and if she were missing we would not have won!

  • Can't watch this - it's too special and emotional... Everything this country stood for captured in less than five minutes. In another world from anything else on YouTube. Thanks you.

  • Cheers Marsvltor2....thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

  • battle of britain

  • what song is that

  • Battle of Britain march music
