I don't know why, but this performance is one of my favorites of Pentatonix. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but i think it has to do with all the different chords they use in this arrangement. They are so damned talented!! No other group came close. Afro-Blue was second in my opinion. but not a close second. No group even came close to PTX! They won it from day one!!!
Avi obviously said 'Its Penta-time' cos of their 'signature' sound, the dubstep breakdown right after he says that. Not because of the pentatonic scale rubbish -.-

it's chromatic and it's only 4 notes.....you need at least 5 for a PENTA-tonic scale. and pentatonic technically can be any five notes, not just the most popular use of 1,2,3,5,6. It would be freakin cool if they did put some sneaky music nerd stuff in there :) But their arrangements are already SO INCREDIBLE; what sound and musicality they have.
And Avi had to catch an 1/8 note breath before the next downbeat so he cut it off to make it sound cleaner.

I don't like the original Toxic by Britney Spears, but their version was awesome; I keep randomly hearing the chorus to their version throughout the day and have to come watch this again.
"Pimped by the judges??" What's not to love about this group: genius arranging, well-blended harmonies, incredible beat-boxing and a bass with the best tone I've heard in a long time. Perhaps the judges could have called them out on a couple of momentary pitch issues, but they were so consistent thoughout the competition that it would have been a travesty if they had not won (even though I loved many of the other performances).
@mmedakar I have nothing but respect for someone that grasp and appreciate not only the musical genius of this group but of so many others in this competition. Their vocal gifts blow me away.
I love this performance! Scott's voice is just unbelievably wonderful, and it sounds so much better than Britney at 3:16-3:22..and so does Mitch's at 3:45-4:00. That's just amazing. And Avi and Kevin going against each other are amazing. Kirstie really did good at the beginning, but I think she sounded a little wobbly because she was nervous when she first started out but then it quickly got better. One more thing to share, the dance moves from 4:26-4:37: OMG. What else can I say?!?!
I like in the middle how Mitch goes "da da, da da dum" and the "aaah-aaaah" ascending like that. Holy crap Pentatonix. You're AWESOME. They got my to like the song Toxic by Spears.

"Pimped by the judges??" What's not to love about this group: genius arranging, well-blended harmonies, incredible beat-boxing and a bass with the best tone I've heard in a long time. Perhaps the judges could have called them out on a couple of momentary pitch issues, but they were so consistent thoughout the competition that it would have been a travesty if they had not won (even though I loved many of the other performances).

I love this performance! Scott's voice is just unbelievably wonderful, and it sounds so much better than Britney at 3:16-3:22..and so does Mitch's at 3:45-4:00. That's just amazing. And Avi and Kevin going against each other are amazing. Kirstie really did good at the beginning, but I think she sounded a little wobbly because she was nervous when she first started out but then it quickly got better. One more thing to share, the dance moves from 4:26-4:37: OMG. What else can I say?!?!
