FALLOUT 3 on a 8600GT ** No OC **

Bethesda games crash no matter how good or bad your system is. Something about memory leaks and packet dumping from what i read. Their engine has not improved at all since Morrowind. And Skyrim will be no different. I dont know why, but Bethesda refuses to address the crash issues. They have games with great content, but unfortunately the most unstable open world engine ever made. I still play their games, but NEVER preorder or buy them new. The instability isnt worth full price.

Okay CAPCOMMASTER can you help me out? I have Fallout 2 as well but i get maybe 10 through 25 FPS if i put everything on ultra low. I have a E6500 Dual Core CPU at 3.6 GHz, 2 GB of Ram DDR3, and a HIS 8600 GT 1GB.

@gersquin065 GT cards are pretty strong. GS cards are pretty weak. And the early cards in eevery series are usually only budget versions of the mid cards of the last. That's how nividia works. They suck. GO ATI!

FO3 seems to be broken in all places, on PC and on both consoles. I have a GTX260 Maxcore55 and even after tweaking the settings, there was still major lag in indoor areas. I was lucky if I could get 30fps inside. Outside, however, was pretty good with average of 60-70 frames

Its not as stable as 8800gt (8800GT example - 50-60 fps, My 8600gt - 15 - 60) but at some points IT does run as fast as 8800 gt

your graphics card isnt the only thing that determines game speed also consider processing power and any background apps that may be running

I have 2,5 GB RAM and no problem. But I deleted the game long time ago because of the crashes problem.

I recommend to update the NVIDIA drivers always.

If the problem stays, is probably because of the Pentium D you have (those are the first Dual Cores made back in 2005). I don't know :P

If you gonna run the game at Uber resolutions like anything above 1280x1024, more RAM would help but other then that not much will happen.You might gain a couple of more frames.

You probably can do a bit more with some settings on high if you have an over clocked XXX edition

i bought this game 5th of november. i was really excited playing this game. unfortunately, it constantly crashes after i went out of vault 101. if i remember right, i have about 5 minutes to play then crash. it's

a miracle though that i'm about 22 hours of gameplay. it never crashed on starting when i played the game by executing the fallout.exe in bethesda\fallout3 folder. not only does bypass cd checks, it also avoids constant crashing! ^^

The explosions looks great in this game, exspecially at nite! And the horizon and HDR effects makes looking off into the distance acually seem like your really looking out into a real world. Everything just comes together in this game really great. The best thing is, I jsut got the game up and running yesterday after my torrent was done downloading. So i got Fallout 3 for free. Torrents kick ass. Im downloading FarCry 2 and Mass Effect and Crysis Warhead right now. FarCry 2 should be done 2nite.

Do you have ffdshow? if you have, I tried little tweaking and it seemed to work. Go to ffdshow audio decoder configuration and on the left pane, click DirectShow control. Then on right there should be check box with don't use ffdshow in: type fallout3.exe in the box. I have oblivion.exe there as well, and they don't seem to crash anymore. If it works, great, but I can't guarantee it will fix for you, so it might be worth a try.

Yeah, I tried that solution before but I get the same damned crashes. I uninstalled Fallout 3 for now till I get an official patch or the perfect solution. Plus, I don't have too much space left in the HDD. :D

Finally ive figured out a way for the crashes in this game!!! I noticed most of the crashes in the wastland were due to saving or loading game sessions...so turn oFF the [SAVE ON REST, SAVE ON WAIT, SAVE ON TRAVEL OPTIONS FOUND IN OPTIONS/GAMEPLAY FROM GAME MENU...]worked great for me!! but there is one problem once you start to play you have to end the game cause whenever you try to save the game it crashes so make sure you have a good supply of food and drinks before trying this...IveEndedIT!

For now just in "High" presets (there are Low, Medium, High and Ultra, no big difference between the last two). The game runs pretty good. around 45-60+ fps in 1024x768.
