"My, what a big subpoena you have in your pocket". Hahahahah! This was on an LP called Comedy Caravan that my folks had. When I was 10 or so I listened to it so many times I had every routine memorized. My first intro to adult humor although I certainly missed all the innuendo meant for adults in some of the bits. My favorite was Andy Griffith's "What It Was Was Football".
My brother and I listened to this so much we had it memorised, when I was about six and he eight. We loved Stan Fregerg, Rolf Harris, and all the other novelty record artists who were popular back then.
I have loved this since since it first played on WFIL AM Radio in Phila! That was 50 years ago and it is still hilarious! Thanks for the post 78s4FR. I looked it up so my daughters and grandchildren could hear this wonderful oldie!
I only got to hear this first on Ed Stewart's Junior Choice shows in the late 60's and 70's - the first woman's voice on the 'George & The Dragnet' sequence also sounds like Wolowitz's mum in Big Bang Theory!
I'm guessing the real Dragnet influenced Due South as Ben was always 'by the book'.
@MsBkirk June Foray sounded like Fran Brill when she voiced the Maiden, Little Blue Riding Hood, and Granny Daws Butler sounds like Carroll Spinney, but he sounded like Jerry Nelson when he voiced the Knave, and Jim Henson when he voiced the Dragon
I loved this when I was a kid. Although I hadn't heard it since until today (30+ years later), my mother and I have always had in-jokes from it (like charging people with a four twelve).
The original vinyl recording of ''St. George And The Dragnet'' was number on of the record sales and jukebox plays charts for four consecutive weeks beginning the second week of October 1953 - PRWW org
@mshow81 The first time I heard this, I was in the middle of a crowd of 20 people who were listening to it also. When I heard him say, "I thought you'd never ask. A dragonet." I cracked up laughing and nobody else seemed to get it. This kind of humor is the best.
I discovered my mother's old Stan Freberg record when I was about 9 or so. My brother and I listened to the record over and over. Loved it, even though didn't know the original stuff as it was already the early 1970s. Great stuff!
This is great stuff 78s4FR. I was a wee small child child when this stuff was played on the radio but it made a lasting impression. this brings back lots o memories. Thanks.
Hy Averback (uncredited) is the narrator; "orchestral accompaniment" is by Walter Schumann, who composed and conducted the music for the original "DRAGNET" radio and TV
shows at the time [Jack Webb personally "lent" him to Stan with his hearty approval]. First released in September 1953.
This is HILARIOUS

This was also the follow-up to this holiday classic "Christmas Dragnet". It had the same actors from the previous one.
And BTW, do you have "Christmas Dragnet"?

Jack Webb did have a sense of humor. He was such a Freberg fan that he loaned Stan the Dragnet orchestra.

So hip, so sharp, so funny--and all from the wild and fertile mind of the son of a Baptist minister.

All of Stan's stuff is great! Too bad a lot of the younger generation wouldn't catch on - especially, the different accents/dialects.

I remember hearing this on radio as a kid, Dragnet was still B&W. Brings back memories of a time when life was simpler. Thanks for posting.

So funny is this man, one recording I have not been able to find is his interview with the abominable snowman.
I also used to listen to him as a kid and still get great enjoyment from him at 62.
