  • From the rough acceptance speech I doubt Bogie thought he would win but I'm glad he did, he's one of just a handful of great stars.

  • It thrills me how the crowd loved him.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • What an amazing group of nominees!!!!!!!!! They're all classics.

  • urgh ....she sounds like margaret thatcher !

  • women were soooooo classy back then

  • Just notice that big round of applause and screams of joy when Bogie's name is announced as a winner. Maybe a relief from the crowd that finally that deserving brilliant actor has been honoured.

    WE ALL LOVE YOU BOGIE...RIP.

  • @spptube oh, boy, you're damn right!

  • I wish I could bring back classic Hollywood- when the actors were amazing and the award speeches were short and sweet.

  • Bring Back White Tie and Tails at Awards Shows!

  • Greer is such a fun seeming person, and I love that her dress has pockets!

  • Good to see Bogie without is toupee (which he hated wearing). He looks just fine without the fake hair.

  • This is marvelous! Thanks for sharing. Greer Garson's dress is gorgeous and Bogey is very cool, as usual.

  • wow, where did you find this video at? thank you for sharing it!

  • And then there's Ben Stiller in avatar costume talking nonsense...

  • None of the false speeches of today, just straight and simple, professional.

  • Happy 112th Birthday

  • Many thanks! Bogart rocks!

  • He was loaded, man!

    High! High on cheap kooch!

Mainly he felt guilty picking up an award for a rather mediocre movie. And to think that Brando and Clift were also nominated that year -- I mean, who's kidding who? Brando in Streetcar vs. Bogart having to put up with that shrill Katherine Hepburn - pleeeeeeze!

  • I wanna marry Greer's voice.

  • Wonderful. And what an incredible group of nominee's- how could you pick? All brilliant actors, brilliant memorable performances. From people with class.

    Thanks

.And thank you. Mr. Bogart. And Ms. Garson. And Mr. Kaye.

    Bill in Canada

  • Not even nominated for "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" - the Oscars are crazy!

  • bogie should have also one it for 'the caine mutiny'. imho.

  • Marlon, or even Monty, deserved it better. Bogie should've won it for Casablanca

  • Danny Kaye omg marry me

  • I am so glad Bogie did win the Oscar - and I love Greer's adorable little reference to her infamously long Oscar speech. (Who cares, I could have listened to Greer's voice all day). "That was before we had these new anticipatory noise reduction devices." Greer and Bogie, I adore them both! <3

  • brando deserve it ¡¡¡¡

bogart should have won in 1942¡

  • Plain and gracious, a great model for future speeches.

  • 1952! in color!!

  • Such a great man, and yet such a short speech. I wanted to hear him talk more, and talk as himself, because you don't hear it often.

  • what kind of an accent is she speaking with? It sounds like a mix of british and american.

  • @elitestar She was British, but she made her film career in the US.

  • All 5 of the nominees had heavyweight acting roles that year.

  • @NellyNelly777 Hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion, and their entitled to speak it. Doesn't mean they're not an asshole though.

  • Awesome speech Bogie! That's the best speech I've ever heard! Short, to the point and quick ending cause he wants to get off that stage! I'd probably do the same thing! SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LUV U BOGIE! U ROCK!

  • I'm glad that Bogie finally won for this, but he should have won in 1942 for Casablanca. One of his greatest roles, if not his best.

  • @TheITinFIT He should have won for tons of films that he didn't. Thankfully he got some recognition for his talent, some other of the greats like Alfred Hitchcock or Cary Grant, didn't get any at all, not for any individual work.

  • @TheITinFIT I will even say the best character role ever played.

  • @TheITinFIT Amen to that. Who DID win Best Actor in 1942? Like you said, I can't imagine any performance better than Bogart's that year

  • @tomada36 The award was actually presented in 1943 and the winner was Paul Lukas for Watch On The Rhine. The other nominees were Gary Cooper, Walter Pidgeon and Mickey Rooney.

  • @RichardElden, hey you bastard! You appearing at Youtube under different names and writing the same shit all the time. You should be exluded from our community as mentally sick envy scum.

  • Humphrey Bogart has a fantastic presence on screen. He's a true cinema legend.

  • Great video. He deserved this Oscar; he also should have received it for " The Caine Mutiny" also.

  • "Bogart was a complex, hard-working, hard drinking, outspoken, witty and cynically rebellious and yet strangely Victorian, raucous and intelligent man" (Budd Schulberg, Washington Post, the 60s).

Thank you very much for posting! It is the first time in my life I had a chance to hear what Bogie said in his acceptance speech.

  • My vote is for Clift ... Brando is the most know in street car , But Clift was awesome ... It is great to see Bogie win also

  • He should have won 5 Oscars, no actor alive can hold Bogie's jock strap.

  • @LivinWorstNightmare No. This is the only Oscar he deserved because it was the only time he actually became a character and acted in a movie. In every other role he is just himself, the same way he is as when you see him delivering this speech. Same way of speaking, same body movement, same faces, same look etc.

  • @webeffect I think Brando should have won for Julius Caesar ... Clift and Bogie IMO was just as great here and Even If I love it ... I feel like his Oscar for Waterfront was an make up .

  • LWN, get ahold of yourself-this is BOGART we're talking about. Icon of icons. His name STILL hits the top 10 in Most Popular Actor polls. He's irreplaceable, indelible and impossible to duplicate. He's also timeless. You cannot compare High Sierra to Sabrina or Key Largo to Capt Quigg of Caine Mutiny. Totally different dynamics of character. He was brilliant.

  • webeffect : You know very little about acting and even less on Bogart.

  • Bogart had said that if he'd won, he'd start his speech with "It's about time." But when he got on stage, he was so overcome, he just did the humble speech here.

And Greer Garson's opening line is in reference to her infamous 20-minute long acceptance speech for Best Actress years before.

  • Who was the fav to win ?

  • Academy Was made for Humphrey Bogart, and it is amazing to watch him at Academy, making the Academy Awards complete! Sarfaraz Sind Pakistan

  • classic film and a classic performance. bogie at his best.

  • A long past due award to one of Hollywood's iconic performers.

  • Over Brando and Clift? What mistake!

  • He should have won for Casablanca. I think Brando deserved this one.
