I think the point of the first two verses when constrast with the third is that heroin addiction (and suicide as a result of clinical depression ) is similar to rape, in that you're ravaged by something you can't control

they called the album TEN because it was the number of then NBA star "Mookie Blaylock" He was apparently a fav of theirs and Pearl Jam's first ever show was at the OffRamp cafe in Seattle Washington...they played the show under the name "Mookie Blaylock" and then changed the name to Pearl Jam shortly thereafter. You'll still see some hardcore PJ fans at shows with Blaylock jerseys on. I know, I've been to about 15+ concerts
