If rome had remained a Republic than it would not have been nearly strong enough. Ceasar was brutal to his foes. but they were just as brutal. They really should have spent a few minutes in the first episode to explain Sulla a little better. They did mention him continuously, and pushed in plenty of history, but should have really explained the whole ordeal that brought Sulla to dictatorship. This event literally intertwines Caesar's rise to power with the precedent needed to perform something like this. But again...BEST series I have ever seen. Only X-Files & Mad Men (so far) (& that I know) can get remotely close to trumping this

This was on par with The Sopranos. In many ways Rome is better. While it did end nicely I REALLY wanted more. A lot more.

With all the junk on HBO you would think they would do anything to make this series last to add to their dying legacy.

Did you not watch the series? Vorenus may have been calm and rational generally but his character was punctuated several times by spikes of sudden, boiling rage and violence. If those moments didn't involve "passion" then I don't know what does.

Well of course he's a stoic. He may have had a terrifying temper, and it lead him to the wrong places. But for the most part he ignored his own wants and needs, to follow what he considered duty. He rarely let his feelings get in the way of what he considered what was right compared to the moments he lost his cool and went crazy. Antony even called him a stoic once in the series.
