Let me make a few clarifications on the confusion. I am a 944 owner and that is, in fact, a 944.  The back glass hatch has been removed and replaced with body braces for weight removal and added rear rigidity (which hatchbacks need). There is no such thing as a "948." Yes, Porsche did make a V-8 in the 928 model, which is the basis of the new Cayenne engine, the but V-8 in this 944 in most likely a Chevrolet small block V-8, which is the most popular choice for a 944 V-8 conversion.

OK...im going to try not to talk out of my ass here, but im 95% sure dude that theres no such thing as a 948. Look up your info, i already did and didnt find much, but incase theres some rare model number change tha....

DUDE? You dont mean a 928 do you? The 928s had V8s, that could be what your thinking of.

Oooo ok...so really? If someone does an engine swap it actually changes the model number? Does it do it officially or just a nickname that people give it?

Just honestly ive never heard of a 948 before and ive heard of V-8 engine swaps all the time on 944s of course and i have never heard or seen them called 948s. A few videos on youtube dont call them that so...it was just a new thing i learned i guess lol.

It's a nickname, just like the 914 that had a V-8 engin transplant years and years ago; officially, it was still a 914 but people called it 918...

Same thing with the 944 in the video that could wear a 948 nickname badge on it's butt.

@OneHotPorsche944 My best friend did the LS1 conversion through renegade and I'm thinking about doing it do my 944s, so I've heard tons about the V-8 conversions for our cars but I too have NEVER heard the term "948" as a nickname. Not bashing on you, just showing that it's completely understandable if somebody thinks you're crazy for saying "Porsche 948".
